Ordered McDs to pick up at wrong location

Meeting up with a friend and at a McDs at a retail park about 10 miles from me - it’s a halfway place for me and friend.

I did select the location when I ordered on app and some reason it reverted to the one 1.5 miles from me. Only noticed this when I selected I’m here (surely a message would pop up saying you are not here) and it mentioned the McDs closest to home.

How do I get my money back? It’s about £8

Rare for them to ever give money back, more like vouchers.

In all honestly it is like talk to a brick wall with them, but I’d suggest contacting them on X (old twitter)

Its your mistake. They can hardly just sell your order on after it's been sat waiting to see if you turn up.
At £8 I would just drop it

I’d write it off. I can’t think they’ll refund you.

Contact customer services on the app, or send them an email? There's a chance it's a franchise so they might have a different way of refunding?
Keep the receipt for the meal from the wrong shop and show them that.
I'm sure they will refund it.

They don't complete the order until you click "I'm already here" in the app

Were you able to say you were there to pick it up? They don’t charge you until you check in, and you physically have to be at the location to check in usually.

The money doesn't normally go out till you collect it!

I have checked on banking app and there’s two pending payments- the wrong location and one I’m eating at the moment.

its weird why the app said I was there when I am 7.5 miles away!

They don't take the payment until you've checked in, it's just "pending". It'll clear back into your account anywhere between 12 hours and 7 days later, depending on your bank.

McDonalds won't be able to do anything, they won't actually claim the money so can't refund it.

As above I’d of thought it would just go back in after a few days if not collected as payment will be pending waiting for you to click that you are there. That’s when they take the money and begin to prepare the food

If you've said you are at the wrong location then it's your fault unfortunately

They don't even start making/assembling it until you click you've arrived or tell the driver thru person

You cancel the order before checking in at the location and start again.

I'm a little confused - you clicked to say that you were here so the original McDs would have started preparing your food. Then you've ordered again where you are? So, they will have charged you from the original McDs because they didn't know you weren't actually there.

I have done this before, I asked at the one I was actually at and they gave me the food anyway.

You can't tell them you're on site when you're not. I once tried to order while I was just around the corner on foot and the app told me to try again when I was actually at the restaurant.

It should come back automatically in a few days. A few weeks ago, DP had made his order on the screen when the power went off. He left and carried on with his journey and bought his food at the next McDs he passed but for a few days you could see both transactions in pending in our joint account before the successful one went through and the unsuccessful one disappeared.
