To ask how often you run these appliances after I’ve had a HUGE energy bill?

How often do you run the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer?

dishwasher here goes on every night without fail. The washing machine 6 out of 7 days. The tumble dryer 4 or 5 times a week. I didn’t think this was excessive? Is it?

I realise I haven’t done a wash for 5 days. I have one full darks load on the machine and enough for another darks load if I include towels. Plus one whites load which is two lots of bedsheets and the school shirts. Then I’m done!

We don't own a dishwasher but we run the washing machine/drier about 5-6 times a week. We pay £60 a month for electricity.

@MyCleverGrayBear in contrast, my washing is never done. 4 of us in the family and 3 of us go regularly to the gym so we have extra gym wear to wash. Dh plays football and ds trains for rugby 2 nights a week with a match on a Saturday. Add in 4 beds, towels, dh work wear and there's multiple loads.

I need to do at least 1 load a day to keep it under control (sometimes more than 1) and with no tumble dryer have to hang clothes indoors.

Get a decent dehumidifier and put your washing on an airing rack. Set your washing machine to do an extra spin to get more water out.
Use the eco setting on your dishwasher. I find it works perfectly well an economy.

I’m really not trying to be argumentative. Please help me understand 20 loads for 4 people unless one or more have medical conditions that involve frequent changes etc.

The only way I understand it is if some loads aren’t full or there are a lot of bedsheet/towel changes

I have 2 young adult men with disabilities. For one, clothes are filthy after a day. The other gets through a couple of changes each day plus wets the bed at night. His covers are a load on their own. Add in extra towels (I often find something suspicious wiped on my own bath sheet that I don't even keep in a bathroom, for example and my washer only copes with a half load of towels without threatening to walk), cleaning rags and so on and it soon adds up. It doesn't sound much different to keeping on top of baby stuff but everything they wear and use is much much bigger.

Absolutely understand why you have a lot of washing! X

You need a smart meter to really know what's going on. We have high energy bills but a huge proportion is heating at this time of year because our house is old and draughty. We use the dishwasher most days, about 4 loads of washing a week, and occasional dryer use if it's too wet outside to hang the washing out.
