to be terrified about going to see Taylor Swift on Thursday?

after recent news reports of attacks on
women and girls and the cancellation of 3 of her shows in Vienna due to a planned terror attack, I'm so scared about going on Thursday. We've been so excited all year and it just feels so worrying at the moment, with the atmosphere in the country.
I've been planning alternative ways to get back to our hotel room following the
concert. but ultimately it will
be futile trying to avoid crowds as a stadium full of people (women and girls mostly) empties out.
Anyone else going? Any tips to relax and just enjoy it?

I’m going. I get the anxiety but honestly, the only way to deal with it is to simply delete all social media and stay away from the tabloids.

you can’t control anything, so being stressed is just wasted energy, just be alert to anything suspicious but in Reality, the security will be so high there will be nothing to worry about.

Izzynohopanda · 12/08/2024 18:42

If you go , then make an exit plan. See where the emergency exits are. Discuss a plan with everyone in case you get separated. If you’re allowed to, take water with you.

Nb . Whenever I go to a theatre or gig , the first thing I do is look around and make a sense of my surroundings, where the exits are etc and have been doing this for years.

From what I understand, the threats were specific to Austria and not general threats.

CosmicDaisyChain · 12/08/2024 18:42

I would go. This is how terrorism works. It makes people fearful of doing normal every day things. The only solution to that is not to live in fear and go about our lives with as much normality as possible. It stands to reason that when the people around her may not have been 100% of the motivation for the attacks that they were going to be hyper sensitive at any future potential suggestions of trouble at concerts.

AuntieMarys · 12/08/2024 18:47

Go. My ds and gf are. I'd be surprised if they didn't.

are you getting the tube out or a bus/car/uber? I've heard that the slightly further away tube station is a good call,
will be easier to get
on the tube from there as quieter apparently

Why are you still going if you’re scared? It’s not going to be fun if you’re frightened. I wouldn’t go.

Hisapsy · 12/08/2024 18:49

I agree this is what terrorists want. Think of it as something the police are in charge of, it's out of your control, so go and enjoy it.

because my daughter spent A lot of money on our two tickets because she adores Taylor

I'll go if you're not going.

BestZebbie · 12/08/2024 18:52

Even if the worst happened and there was some sort of attack, it is actually still very unlikely that you personally would be caught by it. That obviously doesn’t make it better for whoever was the victim, or a place you’d like to be, but think how many people were at Ariana Grande but weren’t hurt.

Goldenbear · 12/08/2024 18:52

In all honesty, I would feel the same but yes, this is what they want.

Too dangerous if you ask me. I’d rather waste the money than be dead 🤷‍♀️

reache · 12/08/2024 18:54

very reassuring @Octarion 🤣

All her other concerts, including the ones that have been in the UK, have been perfectly fine. The threat in Austria was specific to that venue and was foiled very easily.

You will be in no more danger than you would at any other event. And considerably less danger than you are, say, every time you get into a car.

Evaka · 12/08/2024 18:56

Go and enjoy OP. Security is through the roof in London at the moment. Could you take a valerian pill or something to take the edge off over the coming days? X

In what way? Have you got some intelligence, have you informed the authorities

Best you dont go in cars or cross roads too

PeloMom · 12/08/2024 18:58

I get it. I can’t stand the post concert crowds so normally I leave 1-2 songs before the end - that’s without any threats etc. the playlists are usually available from prior concerts so I know when to make my exit

Panicmode1 · 12/08/2024 18:58

My daughter is going with her friend - to the last night. I can't say I'm not apprehensive about it tho; rationally I know the chances of something happening are tiny..imagine how tight security will be - but equally, I will be very pleased when she's safely home.

Don't let the terrorists win...go, enjoy it, and try not to worry (easier said than done, I know!)

Ridiculous. Don't listen to this 'advice' - we'll all end up too scared to do anything. Statistically the world (including the UK) is getting safer every year, we just overconsume news and the media so it seems worse than it is.

5128gap · 12/08/2024 19:01

There will be more security measures there to protect you than there would be if you were going about your business in shopping centres, train stations etc. The way I look at it is, whenever there's an attack is a huge shock that people were not prepared for. If Joanne Public is sitting at home thinking there may be a risk at that concert, you can guarantee Taylor Swifts people with have thought of it as well, and will have taken the necessary precautions to neutralise it.

Boringcatchronicles · 12/08/2024 19:04

Go..its probably safer now because of the threat in Austria.

Bunnyannesummers · 12/08/2024 19:05

Go. You’re as safe there as anywhere, Wembley security is next level at the best of times.

You can’t let them win. I went to a concern 48 hours after the Manchester bombing. I was nervous, but had to be done.

PlantDoctor · 12/08/2024 19:06

I never used to worry about these things, but coming back from our honeymoon a shooter threat was announced at the airport. We saw armed police running one way so we ran the other. None of the security staff seemed to know what to do to direct passengers and it was absolutely terrifying.

Since then I am always on the highest alert in crowds, and absolutely hate going into places where I can't see an exit. Even the cinema in my sleepy Cornish town! Tbh I should probably see a therapist at some point, but it doesn't really stop me doing most things, just makes me feel very tense when I'm doing them!
