to be terrified about going to see Taylor Swift on Thursday?

after recent news reports of attacks on
women and girls and the cancellation of 3 of her shows in Vienna due to a planned terror attack, I'm so scared about going on Thursday. We've been so excited all year and it just feels so worrying at the moment, with the atmosphere in the country.
I've been planning alternative ways to get back to our hotel room following the
concert. but ultimately it will
be futile trying to avoid crowds as a stadium full of people (women and girls mostly) empties out.
Anyone else going? Any tips to relax and just enjoy it?

As someone affected by the Manchester attack, I would go.

A) Because not going is letting the scumbags win.
B) With the other two incidents that happened and the riots that have been happening security is going to be insanely high.

I would make a place that you all know how to get to should you get separated though.

reache · 12/08/2024 19:09

thanks. I've tried to think about it logically and I don't think it's a logical spot for someone to have a go what with all
the security around the place and armed police. I hate the feeling of fear.
I was on the tube not
long after July 7th and was petrified then too.
😢

They have shown that they are prepared to cancel if there is likely to be an issue - in theory it is as safe, if not safer now than is was before the cancellations.

DamnYerEyes · 12/08/2024 19:12

I'm less concerned about inside the concert and more worried about outside, walking, queuing, the tubes, roads etc

Too dangerous if you ask me. I’d rather waste the money than be dead 🤷‍♀️

It’s really not too dangerous, statistically it’s very safe. I’d be more worried about getting in your car if I were you, it’s far less safe than going to a concert.

Security now will be better than ever, you will be even safer.

itsnotabouthepasta · 12/08/2024 19:53

Think of it this way - terrorists need the element of surprise to succeed in their vigilante shit (pun intended).the fact that the plot was foiled literally a week ago means that no potential attacker would try the exact same ammo just days later, they would be too aware they are going to get caught. From that view, I think we are safer thaN we would be in 1-2 years time for example…

but also anxiety isn’t logical. I get the nervousness. I fe,t scared going to London last Thursday but actually, I felt more safer last week than I had in a long time.

Cantgetausername87 · 12/08/2024 19:54

Its probably the safest time to go an see her. There's extra security measures and everyone is on high alert!

BeaRF75 · 12/08/2024 19:58

OP, you need to think logically - there is nothing to be scared of at a concert.
More importantly, you need to model to your child that we are NEVER scared of going out into the world, because that is how idiots/terrorists win.
Most of us have coped with every possible threat since the IRA were active in the 1970s, and it has never stopped us doing anything. Relax and enjoy the gig.

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 12/08/2024 20:04

Fwiw my daughter went to the Cardiff show (so before the Vienna shows) and security was taken very seriously. The police presence was was very obvious- my daughter gave a bracelet to a bomb sniffer dog who was having a break with his handler. Still a great atmosphere and I don’t doubt all the other uk venues had the same level of security.

Singleandproud · 12/08/2024 20:09

Our national security services are fantastic, it is very rare that a planned attack goes ahead and most times is foiled. Unfortunately you can't do much about a lone ranger but anything else is going to be unlikely and security will be on it.

Machiavellian · 12/08/2024 20:10

I'll have your ticket...

Grealish · 12/08/2024 20:16

I went to the London shows last time & security was strict anyways - and will be even stricter now. They’ve banned people hanging around outside, and I imagine there will be thorough searching etc.

Important to note that they’re not doing this because they’re expecting something to happen, I’ve seen a lot of people on social media freaking out that they’re increasing security because they know something’s happening. Not the case at all, Wembley would not be having these concerts if there was any safety risk whatsoever.

Hope you do end up going, she was fab. Completely normal to feel anxious though ❤️

reache · 12/08/2024 20:43

thanks guys and yes,
important to show her that it's ok to go into London and not to model fear and anxiety. She's a young adult btw and prone to anxiety herself, so I don't want to exacerbate that.

This is what the idiots want, I won’t ever call them terrorists

yes obvious mistakes were made at Manchester, these wont happen again

go and be aware of your surroundings and how you could get home/hotel if there was disruption

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 12/08/2024 20:49

YABU. You're falling victim to the hysteria

KenAdams · 12/08/2024 20:51

I'm going too OP. What block are you? My work involves event security in London and Wembley are absolutely brilliant. They learnt a lot after Manchester and have implemented heightened security measures. These were also utilised at the football match this weekend.

JSMill · 12/08/2024 20:55

Go. It's a fantastic show. Enjoy the experience with your dd. It was probably the best experience my dd and I have shared.

Starlingexpress · 12/08/2024 20:56

Go and enjoy yourself-she’s magic live!
Don’t let these scumbags rule your life.

Ahh we're 122 so not far! I've booked Boxpark for before which might be an idea for you if you were looking for somewhere to go and be inside? They play Taylor music and people trade and get glitter tattoos etc.

Eggnogg90 · 12/08/2024 21:02

I think it’s inevitable there will be an incident at one of her shows. I would seriously question going but at the same time, should we let fear dictate our lives?

SellFridges · 12/08/2024 21:13

After the Manchester attacks I read something about terrorism that always calms me.

In order to have a successful attack, the following all need to be true:

  1. The culprit has to be radicalised enough to want to make the attack. This is a very small number of people.
  2. The culprit has to be clever enough to prepare for the attack. They have to know where, when and how would be most effective. This is an even smaller number of people.
  3. The culprit has to be capable of making the attack. They have to be able to do their prep and gain their equipment. This is an even smaller number of people.
  4. They have to do all of the above without anyone else noticing at any stage. This is vanishingly unlikely.
  5. The culprit still has to want to do it at the point of attack. This is even less likely.

You do far more risky things every day.
