I have never seen black bathroom fittings before.

Awful! Our place in Spain has a black sink in the bathroom and it looks constantly in need of a clean - water splashes, toothpaste drips - and even after you wipe it down, it doesn't look good. I'd never put black fittings in if we'd chosen our own bathroom!

We have black taps and shower in our en suite. The tiles and sinks are white. It's been fine so far, but I would always choose chrome if I was installing them myself because it's more classic.

Soft water area-black taps, shower, toilet, and dark grey shower tray and basin, no issues at all

Sounds like a recipe for spending all your disposable income on limescale remover, but then I have always lived in very hard water areas, so bathrooms are always white with metal taps.

I think that everything dates (including chrome which currently looks a bit dated and basic in comparison to black or brass or copper) so don't worry about that, just decorate your house slowly and with the things you like and the best quality you can afford and don't worry about fashion too much. I think because you're in a soft water area they will look good and I never worry about how fashionable something is when I buy a house, as long as it's in good condition and well looked after then that's enough.
