to report this to the police, even though I am technically implicating myself?

My local park is locked overnight and isn’t opened until 6am. It’s a huge park but in one area part of the fence is missing so I squeeze through and go into the park to walk my dog at 4am (he is an XL bully so I like to go the park when nobody is about)

The last few mornings when I have been walking round by the pond there have been a couple of men sitting on the benches next to the pond “feeding the ducks”. I noticed they have black bin liners next to them too. I’m pretty sure I recognise these men from working in a takeaway restaurant.

I am concerned they are trying to catch ducks. I hope i’m wrong, but I just can’t see why two adult men would sit feeding the ducks at 4am?! Especially as the park is officially closed and they have bin liners next to them.

AIBU to report this to the police, even though I’ll be implicating myself too?

Op I am guessing reading through everything this is a joke post or you are a very typical mn most likely on the PTA at ur kids school bored housewife highly privileged living of bank of hubby type with nothing to fill. Your day if sitting in the bush was one of the worst moments of your life

saidthebellsofstclements · 17/08/2024 16:03

I was telling everyone on my lunch break at work about this story op.. Everyone found it hilarious!
I can't believe you are now being called a racist money grabbing pervert. Some people really do need to get a life, and a sense of humour.

Absolute racist bollocks.

Jonboy8 · 17/08/2024 18:23

It is easy to catch ducks, they are pretty daft. I often go to the local park early in the morning with a couple of slices of bread, and always come home with a couple. I have a couple of excellent recipes for duck, but the one with orange sauce is my favourite!

ThePearlSloth · 17/08/2024 18:55

Oh my god. I am so glad I read all of OP’s posts to the end, that was the greatest denouement 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

good work on the surveillance operation. Er, Roger! Over and out 🤣

Jo586 · 17/08/2024 19:06

Where are you based? I do like a crispy duck , where is the restaurant.

Imperrysmum · 10/08/2024 15:58

You’re allowed to walk an XL bully off lead on private property? The park is closed at 4am so it’s private property.

Good luck trying to convince a judge that a park changes its ownership status out of hours. Is your dog registered?

Well virtually. Im not breaking into the park, there is a slat missing in the fence.

Good luck trying to convince a judge that you didn't break into the park because there was a slat missing. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Imperrysmum · 10/08/2024 16:39

A property that is being privately used is private property no? It’s not like it is someone’s house, it is a public park that is closed and I am (or was) using it privately.

Anyway he is on lead & muzzled

Are you for real?

Twototwo15 · 17/08/2024 19:58

I’m quite impressed your dog sat quietly in a bush for three hours.

This is some next level busybody behaviour. I’d think you were just as dodgy as them if I saw you both in a park at 4 am. 😂

Exactly. Probably with an XL bully un muzzled too.

IamMoodyBlue · 17/08/2024 20:26

How wonderful you are, being concerned about the ducks!
I would be too.
Trespass is a civil, not a police matter. They're unlikely to be very interested. Your dog is on a lead, registered and under control. So no problem there, either.

But I"d look for an on-line way to register your concerns initially. Then if it bothers you, you need not mention exactly how you came to see what you saw.

Ehhh excuse me. I'm on the parent council and I'm a normal mum who doesn't camp in bushes at 4am spying on naked men swimming 😆!!

Safaribar · 17/08/2024 20:32

LunaNorth · 16/08/2024 09:10

Not once did the OP mention race, anywhere, in any of her posts.

She mentioned she recognised the men from working in a takeaway restaurant.

Are you sure it’s the OP who’s racially profiling?

She was very wrong about the ducks so could quite easily be mistaken about the guys working in a takeaway. It was clearly racist, wether she meant it or not.

AndrewHillPT · 17/08/2024 20:50

Mum used to teach me to mind my own business; if they're not doing you any harm, and you're not doing them any harm, what's the problem? Did you see them catch a duck? No? Then there's no reason to grass them up.

Besides, just imagine the downside... If you reported me for chilling on a park bench before it opened, especially when I was homeless and sleeping in the park, damn right I'd report you and your XL Bully, no question.

Sorry but what gives you the right to disrupt someone's life with the old bill just because you "suspect" with no evidence besides seeing they had a bin liner? When I was homeless, I carried my property in a bin liner. But yeah, you're being completely unreasonable. What a ridiculous thing to suspect just because someone had a bag with them. Grow up.

AndrewHillPT · 17/08/2024 20:51

Sorry but what's racist about recognising someone from working in a takeaway?

Hate to break it to you, but my last job was in a takeaway and I'm white British.

StarCurator · 17/08/2024 21:23

Yes, you are being unreasonable. You haven't seen those guys do anything illegal, and it sounds as if they are harmless. The idea that they are catching ducks seems extremely far-fetched. Those ducks would likely be extremely tough and would not make a delicious confit de canard. For all you know, they may not have anywhere to live, and camp out in the park; you could be doing them a lot of damage by reporting them. They are probably wondering why you are walking a dangerous dog in the park at 4am, and feeling pretty nervous that your dog might attack them.

I’m not going to report them :)…..as per my last update I conducted my own internal investigations first and they weren’t catching ducks, just swimming :)

As I said, I had to clamp his mouth shut while they swam past to stop him barking but other than that he was a very good boy sitting in the bush for 3 hours. Who knew! A well behaved XL bully :)

CrunchyCarrot · 17/08/2024 22:43

So those guys were swimming in the lake at 4 a.m. and then having a cuppa? Weirdos! 😂Glad the ducks are OK though!

Imperrysmum · 17/08/2024 22:44

CurlewKate · 16/08/2024 06:10

If this is true, then you are making a very tedious racist assumption.

I never once mentioned anyone’s race? 🤔 so I think YOU are making the tedious racist assumption.

This was never about race, it was the connection between suspicious behaviour around ducks combined with recognising the men from a takeaway restaurant that serves duck.

If I recognised some men who worked in a Toby Carvery acting suspicious in a potato field at 4am, I’d think they were nicking potatoes too.

Sorry to derail, but if you were responsible you wouldn't have a dog like that. They're probably feeding the ducks, although that's not ideal either.

Oh goodness, that’s not your concern, OP, has said the reason for going to the park at that time, she sounds very responsible, wanting her dog to be left on his/her own to have some freedom, if you had a dog you’d understand.
They’re probably feeding the ducks, really, with black bags next to them at 4am! another
assumption you’re making, not very helpful.
Anyway back to the original post, l personally think it is suspicious, l would report it, because it is actually illegal to intentionally injure/kill take any wild bird.
I understand you being cautious, reporting this, however you haven’t done anything illegal, you have a concern, if l was in your position l would report it, even if you do it anonymously.l don’t think it’s funny, like some of the other comments and it’s the right thing to do.
