to report this to the police, even though I am technically implicating myself?

My local park is locked overnight and isn’t opened until 6am. It’s a huge park but in one area part of the fence is missing so I squeeze through and go into the park to walk my dog at 4am (he is an XL bully so I like to go the park when nobody is about)

The last few mornings when I have been walking round by the pond there have been a couple of men sitting on the benches next to the pond “feeding the ducks”. I noticed they have black bin liners next to them too. I’m pretty sure I recognise these men from working in a takeaway restaurant.

I am concerned they are trying to catch ducks. I hope i’m wrong, but I just can’t see why two adult men would sit feeding the ducks at 4am?! Especially as the park is officially closed and they have bin liners next to them.

AIBU to report this to the police, even though I’ll be implicating myself too?

Surely this makes me a responsible XL bully owner? As i’m walking him at 4am when the park is closed, therefore it’s on private property?

Sorry to derail, but if you were responsible you wouldn't have a dog like that. They're probably feeding the ducks, although that's not ideal either.

Hi all. Thought I’d do a quick update as a few of you had been speculating I had ended up on the specials menu.

So…I was wrong.

Waited in the bush last Sunday morning for nearly 2 hours until they finally turned up at 5am.

They sat on the bench for a while, feeding the ducks then stripped off and swam in the pond. Meanwhile i’m stuck inside the bush, with CHRONIC cramp in my calf from crouching for so long, nearly in tears with the pain while wrestling my dogs mouth shut so he doesn’t bark at the naked men swimming past us in the pond.

When they got out they dried off with towels from the black bags and got out a flask of tea(?) to drink.

So yep, I was wrong. Not snatching ducks.

I do admire your dedication for the Ducks! Grin

Zanatdy · 16/08/2024 05:52

Yes I’d report them, I’m sure the police aren’t going to prosecute you for walking around the park. Save the poor ducks! (Edited - sorry seen your update!!)

CurlewKate · 16/08/2024 06:10

If this is true, then you are making a very tedious racist assumption.

FinalInstructionstotheAudience · 16/08/2024 06:16

@Imperrysmum You ought to be ashamed of your racist assumptions, yet you are trying to be lighthearted
Disgusting

Hectorscalling · 16/08/2024 06:50

I do find it funny how some posters couldn’t believe there could be any other reason other than duck-nap!

You racially profiled two people - ever going to admit that part, OP?

Of course she did, even if it was subconscious bias, but dont count on op being honest about it.

Not dedicated to ducks, just a nosey parker making racist assumtions

LunaNorth · 16/08/2024 09:10

Not once did the OP mention race, anywhere, in any of her posts.

She mentioned she recognised the men from working in a takeaway restaurant.

Are you sure it’s the OP who’s racially profiling?

Oh come on. It was obvious what the OP meant.

RockyRogue1001 · 16/08/2024 09:17

Thank you for the update

She didn't have to Nevin the race. At the very best giving her benefit of the doubt she was class profiling, but knowing most takeaway workers are not white or not white British, it sounds more like not so subtle racism. The dedication to stake them out to get them, can't imagine the self righteousness...

Oh, that bit got swept under the carpet/ignored.
Move along, nothing to see here 🙄

ListentotheButterflies · 16/08/2024 12:10

Great entertainment but that's all.

twojumps · 16/08/2024 12:25

Glad all is well, apart from those on here in meltdown about dogs, racism etc but they'll be another thread along for them to jump on

CurlewKate · 16/08/2024 13:22

Since when has anyone used the expression "local take-away" to mean a neighbourhood purveyor of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding?

It was probably a Chinese one serving Peking duck leading OP to the conclusion they were stealing the birds.

Quack and Crack!

That's the start of a good night out in some places.

januaryjan · 16/08/2024 17:45

Would you not have been tempted to nab the bags with the clothes and towels and make a run for it?

Or am I just evil. 😁

Oh ffs! Nothing racial at all, get off your soap box 🙄

Delta41 · 16/08/2024 18:05

I’m just turning this into an open mic routine.
ongoing thanks to all.

@Mybusyday "Oh ffs! Nothing racial at all, get off your soap box"
No, nothing "racial" at all about the assumption that "men from the take away" are going to be catching ducks from the pond. Presumably they were also rounding up cats on the way home......

Delphiniumandlupins · 16/08/2024 22:31

All the ponds in parks around here are about two feet deep and mucky with bird poo. Not somewhere I would choose to swim?

tommyhoundmum · 17/08/2024 09:27

"Class profiling", that's a new one on me.

Hereforaglance · 17/08/2024 15:16
