to report this to the police, even though I am technically implicating myself?

My local park is locked overnight and isn’t opened until 6am. It’s a huge park but in one area part of the fence is missing so I squeeze through and go into the park to walk my dog at 4am (he is an XL bully so I like to go the park when nobody is about)

The last few mornings when I have been walking round by the pond there have been a couple of men sitting on the benches next to the pond “feeding the ducks”. I noticed they have black bin liners next to them too. I’m pretty sure I recognise these men from working in a takeaway restaurant.

I am concerned they are trying to catch ducks. I hope i’m wrong, but I just can’t see why two adult men would sit feeding the ducks at 4am?! Especially as the park is officially closed and they have bin liners next to them.

AIBU to report this to the police, even though I’ll be implicating myself too?

Surprised at the answers here, the OP is being responsible and looking after local amenities. OP - you must keep yourself safe. Suggest you report it to your local councillor and to the park keeper if there is one, and also to the Parks and Gardens department of your local council.

Perhaps mention it to your neighbours? Here we had instances of people catching carp in the local ponds. It's stealing if nothing else and deletes the local wildlife. Good luck.

What is OP meant to mention to the neighbours, that she hides in bushes before dawn to spy on some local guys sitting at the lake?
"Hey guys, did you see those suspicious takeaway locals enjoying a view of the lake before the park opens? How do I know? Ahem, well, of course I was not there myself so to speak, but hmmm, yeah, another dog walker with a dog similar to mine sneaks in there around 4 am".

But this posted has a dog, not a baby- so why would I be supportive of a 'mum'- since it has notghing to do with maternity, more with curtain twitching and gossiping about... two dudes sitting in a park by a pond. OP has no proof they are poaching, it's all based on a fact she recognises them from a local takeaway = they are suspicious, unlike her, who walks a dog in the same park where she should not have been.
I had a neighbour who tried to report to police a 'suspiciously looking Middle Eastern guy' for sitting in a parked car as she thought he was osberving houses on the street. Turns out he was waiting for his mother to take her to hospital.
OP needs to get her finger off the launch button, not people who question her motivation for reporting the men.

Actually...

I live very close to a Jewish primary school in London and did alert tge security guard at the gate that there were two guys hiding g behind bushes across the road, watching.

He informed there were three unmarked police cars on either end of the road and one around the corner, as a result of credible threats. That was approx 6 years ago, so this is tge world we live in, dammed for being nosy neighbours and racist if they report concerns or dammed if they don't.

Like I've said I earlier posts. Fingers off tge launch butto with allegations of racism, a label too easily bandied about these days and try remember most posters are mums also, who happen to have dogs, cats, rabbits and husbands (@ Tulipsareredvioletsarebue)

Can we all take it down a notch?

So @Imperrysmum .... whats the latest, am all👂

😊

Tulipsareredvioletsarebue · 12/08/2024 11:25

@GripeOfTheDay or maybe we dont preach to people what they can discuss online.
Especially if the post is dubious- I think it's fine to call out questionable attitudes to people when seen, you think we should not just because someone is/may be a mum, fine. Being a mum is not an excuse if you treat people like crap just because they work in a takeaway.

So XL Bully owners are disproportionately irresponsible then and the breed attracts arseholes does it? Maybe so but it's also the breed. Half of all of Britain's XL Bully dogs descend from one inbred animal from the US named Killer Kimbo', genealogy created a shallow gene pool of unstable fighting beasts responsible for 70 per cent of dog attacks in Britain.

They are not.

Despite repeated requests for the DNA evidence to back up that statement, Bullywatch failed to provide.

It is true that large proportion of the XL Bullies registered with whatever ridiculous XL Bully Club of Twatty Idiots... have paperwork claiming Kimbo ancestry.

But these bits of paper are not verified by DNA or checked in any meaningful way. And they did at the time, bump up the value of the dog/dogs semen/dogs offspring enormously.

A huge proportion of the XL Bullies in the UK are of course, not even registered with the made up self regulating 'out of someones back room' registry in the first place.

The people, the handling/care/lack of care/training (lack of or shitty methods) and the housing are more significant than breed/size in this case (because these are all crossbreeds, multi-mutts.. not actually a breed at all here).

Size and build is what makes the behaviour resulting from the above factors, so very dangerous.

Or might do...

OPs first post said 'pretty sure' they recognise them from working in a local takeaway.

Then later seemed to post as if it was a definite ID.

In the dark at 4am from a distance.

Skaer · 12/08/2024 12:23

an xl bully, a sprinkle of racist tropes and a picture of her garden bush and then disappearing in the hopes that everyone will be like omg are you alright?!
Op is under a bridge somewhere laughing.

GripeOfTheDay · 12/08/2024 12:54

I think you might be going a bit far here...

Nobody's made any racist statements and the poster has tried to respond honestly clearly stating her reasons for

A) walkingbtgecdog in the early hours of the morning, in order not to upset/disturb others.

B) She said she recognised them from the local takeaway sitting by the pond with black bin bags at 4am.

Nothing racist I can see here, so why spinning out tge old "racist tripe" allegations.

Maybe it would be more useful to take a good hard look inwards before firing off allegations of racist behaviour...

Time to grow up ladies, remember, we all teach our children that words can hurt in the playground...

Time to practice what we preach..

This could be a real thing. There have been restaurant/takeaway owners near me who have been caught stealing sheep from the fields and illegally slaughtering them on the floor of a car wash. I don't know why you think it's funny?

Its funny because the post took me back and stealing ducks sounds quite comical lavender love

Nanny0gg · 12/08/2024 13:02

Imperrysmum · 10/08/2024 15:55

please make it make sense.

the only thing I’m “definitely doing wrong” is entering a locked park.

BUT they are also entering a locked park?

So at the least we are both equally wrong.

Just report the hole in the fence (which will get repaired if you report the men)

Skaer · 12/08/2024 13:09

@GripeOfTheDay op is just a troll, these are frequently repeated racist tropes throughout the years of ooh the local takeaway man is stealing ducks, it’s bullshit.

How truly disgusting. The idea that people would want to pay money to acquire the semen of an inbred, ugly and highly aggressive dog says a lot about the state of Britain now. What has happened to us?

Boopbeepbeepboop · 10/08/2024 15:31

If you're serious on reporting them why don't you observe them for a short time and see what they're doing, rather than making assumptions. If they run a takeaway they might have a bag of bread to feed them for all you know. Takeaways in my area are open to early hours of the morning so I expect by the time they've cleaned down and left 4am would also not be an unreasonable time for this. Not that I'd bother mind you 🤣

So it's okay to poison the ducks with a black bag full of bread?

MellersSmellers · 12/08/2024 13:26

Imperrysmum · 10/08/2024 15:42

How is stealing ducks an odd conclusion? 🤔
Please tell me the alternative scenario then….

-2 adult men at 4am
-Sitting on a bench in a locked park
-Encouraging ducks over with bread
-Have black bin bags next to them
-Recognise men from working in a takeaway that serves duck

Alternative explanation:

  • just finished their night shift at the takeaway
  • have a bin bag with leftover food for their own use
  • having a bit of quiet time in the park before they go home - like you
  • coaxing over and feeding ducks bread 'cos they....like ducks
  • are sleeping rough in the park like one PP said, with bin bag of belongings
Why not engage them in gentle conversation (as you have an XL bully with you..) and find out their back story
jellyfish2121 · 12/08/2024 13:36

Concerned the 2 men might have seen her watching. Did you see anything OP, are you safe? Maybe they didn't come out that night..

FlipFlopVibe · 12/08/2024 13:52

MN will literally do anything to discredit a poster.

Next time OP, just say you were walking your dog at 4am because you came off night shift. The whole XL bully comments are both ridiculous and boring 😴

On the ducks, take it from me, much stranger things have happened. You may not be entirely wrong.

AlleycatMarie · 12/08/2024 14:27

Hi @Imperrysmum I’m so sorry this thread is getting derailed by idiots. I would have the same suspicions as you and would go to the police. Did you find anything out on your undercover operation?

Mandaxx25 · 12/08/2024 14:52

Right?! Imagine the audacity to think of the ducks and think nothing of owning a beast known to snap at the sound of a fart and rip a child's face off!

FeetLikeFlippers · 12/08/2024 17:26

Is this post for real? Why mention the breed of your dog unless it’s to provoke people? The sentence “As i’m walking him at 4am when the park is closed, therefore it’s on private property?” apart from being badly written, makes me wonder what alternative reality the OP is living in. Unless I’ve misunderstood that, she’s saying that if you break into a public space outside opening hours, it becomes “private property”? And that’s before we even get to the ducks. For our entertainment, I would highly recommend a stakeout and regular updates.

gerryk62 · 12/08/2024 17:28

Police. Prob won’t give a duck😂

llizzie · 12/08/2024 17:37

Pixiedust88 · 11/08/2024 21:34

Not all XL bullies are vicious. Some are the dopiest dogs ever. It is not the breed that is the issue it is the owner and how they are raised. People are a nasty breed with a terrible reputation but I don’t see anyone complaining that we need to be restricted or anything. If OP is a responsible dog owner and stays within the law when taking the dog out why shouldn’t they walk it at 4am to avoid judgment. Dogs can pick up on peoples reactions to them and it can make them defensive or nervous. As a dog lover myself I agree that some breeds are dangerous but OP if your dog is friendly I’d happily fuss it if I bumped into you

It rather depends on whether she is walking the dog in the early hours so that she can take his muzzle off, or if she thinks her dog is not quite the same a you describe here.

The dog which attacked me when I was 12 was known to be friendly, and was on a lead. It grabbed the collar of my thick coat and shedded it to ribbons and was just about to go for my then unprotected throat when someone pulled it off. Had I not been wearing that thick coat, I would not be here.

Be careful Peking out of the bushes OP…

I love how the OP completely missed your pun and responded like it was a serious comment. I’m still not entirely convinced this post is real but I want it to be so I’m getting the popcorn in now and waiting for updates on her stakeout!

Jeannie88 · 12/08/2024 18:27

Worth a bit of surveillance as having black bags does sound dodgy. X

6079SmithW · 12/08/2024 19:38

Actually @FinalInstructionstotheAudience it really did happen where I used to live, but you are free to believe what you like.

Also I would like to point out that I didn’t mention what kind of takeaway it was so how the hell could I be being racist? If a certain stereotype came to your mind or anyone else’s maybe you should all take a look at yourself. More than one country/culture eats duck you know!
