To say 3 year old DC is 2 for free theme park entry?

MooonDreamerz · 10/08/2024 08:43

Toddler has just turned 3 and very small for their age.
we are going to a theme park next week. It's free for age 0-2.

DH says we should say DC is 2 so we don't have to pay for them. We will be paying for ourselves and older children.

Do people do this?

I can see how people get away with it as toddlers tend not to carry ID!

Those that lie about ages. Do you lie about other stuff too? Would you shoplift if you knew you wouldn’t get caught? Or how about claiming for more than was stolen/lost on your insurance?

StampOnTheGround · 11/08/2024 17:26

Yeah, we're all hardened criminals because we tell a small lie for a couple of months after a kids birthday. 🙄

I'm sure everyone who wouldn't do this, does do things that others would find questionable.

How many more times will this line be trotted out GrinGrin

No we don't

Ok now?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 11/08/2024 17:29

It never dawned on me to use my twins being premature as an excuse. They're 'not really' that old. Is it OK to tell them they can't have their birthday presents in November (actual b'day) but have to wait until January (predicted b'day)? It works both ways, you know.

Do shoplifters become armed robbers?

Do drivers caught over the speed limit become drink drivers!

Do people that cycle on the pavement become cyclists that deliberately drive into people?

Do parents that lie that a three year old is two, become shoplifters?

The answer to all the above is no, not necessarily.

God it's a tedious question.

It really doesn't! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's up to the parents.

Sometimes I drive at 33 MPH in a 30 - does that make me on oar with the Krays?

dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime · 11/08/2024 17:39

@SamW98 of course it does.. it's bloody obvious!

AhBiscuits · 11/08/2024 17:45

Go for it. Why not help yourself to something from the gift shop too?

Why are you lot so defensive? I genuinely interested where your moral cut off is.! It’s an interesting topic. Of course it’s not the crime if the century but if it’s ok to lie about your child’s age what else is ok? What’s your cut off? I try not to speed but I’m sure I do go over the limit at times but I am very honest about the sort of stuff we’re talking about. I would never lie for financial gain. Anyway tell
me, I think it’s interesting. What’s ok, what isn’t?

You’re extrapolating wildly here. That’s not at all what I’m getting at. I’m just interested in the moral cut off point. Oh and don’t answer it if you find it tedious. You’re not required to respond.

If they're only just 3 chances are they won't be able to do a lot of it anyway, Paultons do it by height rather than age for this reason which I think is better! As you're going with plenty of others paying for entry couldn't get worked up by this.

I was tall for my age, so had the opposite problem - had bus drivers demanding full bus fare when I was only at primary school. My parents would have been penalised if the height rule had been brought in when I was an infant.

dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime · 11/08/2024 18:02

@herecomesthesunyes I stop at armed robbery, but I can't answer for others.

Obviously, I only talk for myself. Are you happier knowing now?

Could I ask why it interested you?

Are you doing a study or do you need to question future in laws or something?

I'm really interested to know, because it came across as a sanctimonious, I'm superior comment.

You wouldn't have been penalised though because you would have been able to go on more rides or attractions because you were taller. If you didn't want to go on them then that's fine but you would have had the choice.

The ones being penalised are the older kids who are short who have to pay full ticket price but physically can't go on the rides because they're too short. That's why charging by height not age is more logical.

herecomesthesunyes · 11/08/2024 18:27

You’re so defensive @dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime I’m genuinely interested. 🤷‍♀️ If it’s winding you up so much then hide the thread.

Well....it's not really fair...some rides are a bit too fast, etc for a younger kid, no matter how tall they are - so they're paying for something that's not suitable for them and therefore won't use.

I'm not defensive! But when you get people asking for the 2535 time, do you also shop lift, bank rob etc, it gets boring.

Do you police everyone and how many did you report during Covid.

I'm like you just "interested" why you want to know?

Can you answer that or are you saying because I'm asking I'm defensive and your asking is ok?

You seem to want to chase me off the post? Which in itself is quite odd?

herecomesthesunyes · 11/08/2024 18:33

Reflecting a bit more @dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime I suppose I just can’t imagine doing it myself so I’m interested in where peoples’ (that deem this ok) cuts offs are and their reasoning. For example people justify this as ok because they’re big corporations and they charge too much anyway or because they’ll spend inside these places. But they wouldn’t shop lift. I’m just interested in why that’s different. Is it the actual act of taking a material thing? It interests me.

Procrastinates · 11/08/2024 18:35

Of course there will be rides that might not be suitable e.g ones that are too fast for younger children at all theme parks but the point is the children who are taller could go on those rides if they met the height requirements. The shorter children couldn't even if they wanted to because they are not tall enough. It's never going to 100% fair but out of the two options paying by age or by height it does seem fairer to pay by height if there's more available for taller children to go on.

Tagyoureit · 11/08/2024 18:36

It's fine up until they start saying "no I'm not, I'm...." 🤣

Billydavey · 11/08/2024 18:36

I used to work on the gate at a kids theme park that charged based on height. The number of people who carried a baby but squeezed a (probably) teenager into a pushchair was amazing!

herecomesthesunyes · 11/08/2024 18:36

@dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime Of course I didn’t report anyone during Covid, I’ve already stated that further up. Why not take the temperature down a bit?
