To say 3 year old DC is 2 for free theme park entry?

Toddler has just turned 3 and very small for their age.
we are going to a theme park next week. It's free for age 0-2.

DH says we should say DC is 2 so we don't have to pay for them. We will be paying for ourselves and older children.

Do people do this?

I can see how people get away with it as toddlers tend not to carry ID!

Absolutely this. I’m a financial crime manager as a job and we wouldn’t be investigating anyone who did this 🤣

I’d to it in a heartbeat.

My son and his mates still bought under 18 tickets for football for months after their birthdays. At half price why not?

No theft is a victimless crime. That is just you justifying criminal activity.

You may have no respect for those you steal from so I assume you’d also have no issue with someone who stole from you simply because they thought nothing of you.

NeedToChangeName · 10/08/2024 13:38

I'm surprised how many people on this thread (1) do this, (2) think it's acceptable and (3) think it's funny if a child knows what's going on

I try really hard to be a good role model for my children. I wouldn't risk their respect to save a few quid

Just makes you a flat out liar but you’d likely get away with it. Our issue is a 15 year old who could pass for 18 bus drivers etc just don’t believe her.

I had that issue. Bus drivers think the taller you are the older you are. Carried a photocopy of passport. Then when I was 18, bus operator had a pass for under 16s which had expiry date of day before 16th birthday.

You say a restaurant meal but where do you draw the line? Is a £5 lunch ok, or a £1,50 ice cream? Is it ok to steal these smaller things? That’s what you’re saying.

people draw their own lines. For me, I wouldn’t ‘take’ from a small business - but from a large corporate paying workers pennies whilst their board members lounge in their millions and keep putting prices up? Well I’d lose no sleep over that.

Corporate profits benefit shareholders, most of whom are average people who rely on stock market investments for their pensions.

Those of you who want to run non-profit companies, give away your services and goods at the lowest possible prices, overlook thievery and yet pay your workers handsomely: What's stopping you?!

I wouldn't sell my integrity to save a few quid.

Would you also steal from a shop if you knew you wouldn’t be caught?

There is no difference.

In this economy? Absolutely

PreggersWithBaby2 · 10/08/2024 13:55

In my local playground, there is a different entry fee for U3s and over 3s. Over 3s are allowed in a separate area of the playground and can do some different activities that U3s can't because of insurance. My worry would be if you pay the cheaper amount, they might not be allowed on some of the rides.

Get off your arse and do more work instead of stealing off people. It’s scummy behaviour.

Leafcutterantsarecool · 10/08/2024 08:48

Yes people do it. Personally I think it’s equivalent to theft and I wouldn’t - I don’t want my kids watching that behaviour and thinking it’s ok to lie for your own financial gain.

But as they say, “you do you”.

I hardly think that the 3 yr old is going to be aware of how much they are paying or not paying for the tickets 🙄

People being enormous, billion pound corporations 😂

fitzwilliamdarcy · 10/08/2024 14:16

Why not? According to yesterday’s thread, parents are smuggling kids into hotel rooms routinely, why not rip off the theme parks too?

But as they say, “you do you”.

You really think a three year old is going to
a) notice wtf is going on when their parents buy tickets and
b)remember it for more than a minute when they are at a theme park
c) have this one off incident influence their internal morality for the rest of their life?

My parents used to round down our ages when they could get away with it. Once they bought a family ticket (2 adults 2 kids) and made me (3rd child) sneak in behind another family! I have somehow despite this nefarious criminal influence managed to grow up into an honest and productive member of society who doesn't even take a pound if the person before me left it in the locker/supermarket trolley when I use it....

herecomesthesunyes · 10/08/2024 14:17

@mynewname25 you’d be surprised! They’ll certainly know you’re lying about their age.

Trying to justify being a thief isn’t quite the win you think it is.

She’s taking older children too 🙄. And actually my kids by age three were well aware what age they were and would have noticed if got it wrong and asked why I’d said they were two not three. So either I’d need to tell them why, or I’d start lying to them too.

I dare say all avoidable these days by paying online anyway, but that’s not really the point.

Bouliegirl · 10/08/2024 14:26

Doesn’t everyone do this for as long as they can?

stopthepigeonstopthepigeon · 10/08/2024 14:36

Gosh I don’t feel quite so bad about not re-scanning items that didn’t take at the self checkout now (mind you I’m probably going to be told that’s different)

Yes they do.

I've done it with days out, cinemas, swimming and anything else where it was works out cheaper if dd was a year or so younger.

I think the companies that charge £££ for kids to get in are the thief's tbh.

CoffeeGood · 10/08/2024 14:48

What is wrong with society these days and the amount of MN posters justifying theft? There seems to be a severe lack of moral fibre around! Not paying the correct amount for the age is theft, just like cramming a couple of un-paid for kids into a hotel room.

Theft is theft, no matter how big or small the amount or how big the business is that's on the receiving end. If this is okay, where is the line when it becomes not okay? I absolutely despair.

herecomesthesunyes · 10/08/2024 14:51

It’s a shocker @CoffeeGood and the twisting and justifying is sad. Scummy.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/08/2024 14:52

I did it with my two when they were younger.
See also the premier inn kids eat free breakfasts. It was always a half term treat and when we went recently I tried to pay for my son (turns 18 this year!) but the waitress was having none of it. Three breakfasts for less than a tenner! Grin

My family obviously have no morals at all because I was taught to tell the bus driver I was getting off at the stop before the one I’m supposed to get off because it was cheaper!
