To say 3 year old DC is 2 for free theme park entry?

MooonDreamerz · 10/08/2024 08:43

Toddler has just turned 3 and very small for their age.
we are going to a theme park next week. It's free for age 0-2.

DH says we should say DC is 2 so we don't have to pay for them. We will be paying for ourselves and older children.

Do people do this?

I can see how people get away with it as toddlers tend not to carry ID!

Reflecting a bit more @dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime I suppose I just can’t imagine doing it myself so I’m interested in where peoples’ (that deem this ok) cuts offs are and their reasoning. For example people justify this as ok because they’re big corporations and they charge too much anyway or because they’ll spend inside these places. But they wouldn’t shop lift. I’m just interested in why that’s different. Is it the actual act of taking a material thing? It interests me.

I suppose every single person is different?

As I say I'm laid back and stop at armed robbery, but I guess most wouldn't shop lift.

In fairness the question is asked so much on these types of threads, it's just stupid.

People are being called scummy (or as @BettyBardMacDonald says one is called scurvy), not of good character blah blah.

It's totally ridiculous, you do you and answer the question that's asked

Which was would you doit? No.

No need fur defensive name calling, no need for asking silly questions insinuating that everyone is a lowlife, blah blah

Anyway, I must go, it's hot and I need a cool drink, so I'm off to raid the local shop. Can I get you anything?

@dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime Of course I didn’t report anyone during Covid, I’ve already stated that further up. Why not take the temperature down a bit?

Sorry o assumed that such a sanctimonious person would, it surely stands to reason?

Oh dear! You were doing so well too but you couldn’t resist the insult 😂 enjoy your drink. I’m currently on holiday somewhere sunny so am going to hide this thread now as it’s just getting silly. @dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime

Very good idea!

I'm back from the ram raid now.

Enjoy your holiday....

People do. I don't. It's theft.

Two questions you need to research on the theme park's website:

  1. how does being 3 vs 2 affect what she can go on?
  2. does being a small 3 vs a large 3 affect what she can go on?
  3. will she actually want to do the things for 3 year olds (not 2 year olds)?

Technically lying is wrong. However I would imagine that under 3s are free and over 3s are not because there is a lot more 3+ can do, compared to under 3s. If you will take advantage of your baby being 3 to give her a much more fun day, than if you had gone when she was 2, then you need to pay for that fun. If not, because she is a small underconfident just 3, then you'd be wrong to lie, but I'd be tempted to do so. In some ways I think places should charge for little ones based on ability. For example, we have some soft plays near us that charge for babies, crawlers and walkers, because that affects the amount of equipment they can use. Whether they are under 6 months, 6-12 months, 1, 2, or 3 is of little relevance.

Technically passing on a carpark ticket with time left on it , to another person is theft. To my mind if person a has paid for 2 hrs parking but only parks for an hour what difference if person b takes the other hour....
I've given and received tickets (without feeling bad) ...is this seen in the same light as shoplifting as well since all things seem to be equal?

Be kind to your critics, hair shirts are very itchy in this weather!

I’d do it if my child was petite enough to get away with it. It really annoys me the completely random pricing at these things. I don’t think many pre-school children can enjoy things in quite the same way as older kids (unless it’s designed especially for toddlers). Yet in some places it’s only free under 2, randomly in others it’s under 3 (exact same type of attraction).

I wish attractions that were designed for families (and therefore a variety of ages) would do a more consistent pricing of free for under 1’s, lower pricing for pre-school age 1 to 4 and then normal child price for school age 4 - 16.

There’s a local farm attraction that we love and used to attend regularly, paying the full adult price for the 2 of us - but DS being under 2 was free. But I’m really put off paying the almost same price for my now 2 year old as for an adult or much older child. It’ll be better value and he’ll get more out of it once he’s a year or two older (and can last a whole day there without getting nardy or needing a nap and I’d think that would be the same for most 2 and 3 year olds!) But in the meantime they’ve lost regular income which is a shame for a small business, as I wonder how many other parents of pre-schoolers have done the same.

I don't think it's theft because it has time left to run. If soemome
paid a flat day fee for parking eg £5 no matter how long you parked for and then passed it to someone else I think that's wrong as then
each should pay £5 but if person A paid for 3 hours parking and only used 2 hours and then gave the ticket to person B to use the other hour I don't see why that's wrong unless the car park owner really does want to take advantage of people paying over what they've used.

This thread is reminding me of all the arguments about sitting on a park bench in lockdown! Or driving to the park in the next town.

I'm wondering whether all those who are horrified at the idea of mis-stating ages ever bought alcohol or went to a night club under the age of 18 - or would that be OK because you are handing money over ?

TrixieFatell · 13/08/2024 17:54

To be fair it is a slippy slope. 15 years ago I lied about my kids age, today I'm head of retail theft ring.

It reminds me of my old work colleague who saw me take a cd that someone had copied an album onto for me. They asked if I'd steal a car like I would steal music, I replied if I could download one illegally like the album I would have given it a go.

I bet you didn't disclose those indiscretions on your CV! You'd never have got the job.

Absolutely. Though I am ashamed that it was a Killers album I got an illegal copy of.

Many years ago we were on the old Olau ferry which did an amazing but expensive smorgasbord lunch, we were 2 adults, 1 paying and 1 free child. As we were leaving and waiting to pay the eldest ran off and OH went in hot pursuit. At the till the woman said to the free 3 year old What did you have? and she honestly replied Jelly and a piece of meat. The woman said Uh, you're not paying for that, and crossed off the child's meal. Should I morally have insisted on paying for a child's meal?
