Screaming children

It is now past midnight and my neighbours children are still outside screaming. The youngest is only about 4. Is this normal? Can I complain to the council? I can’t even have the windows open and it’s so warm inside.

no, not normal. any time after 11pm this is classed as anti social. My council say 10pm though. I would report

dogsdogsdogs1234 · 10/08/2024 00:12

same where i am op it went on until 3am last week, around 20-30 of them singing

Although, I think it would depend if its a regular occurrence or not. If a one off I don't think the council would be too bothered. If happening most nights then yes

Nw22 · 10/08/2024 00:19

It has happened most nights since July. They are 3/4 children under 10 and the parents don’t seem to do anything. It’s also in the daytime but there isn’t anything I can do about that.

If there was kids under 10 running about feral at midnight in my street, I'd phone the police.

ilovesooty · 10/08/2024 09:11

Have you spoken to their parents?

Bettedaviseyes111 · 10/08/2024 09:14

No not normal, kids under 10 shouldn’t be out at that time of night whether they are screaming or not.

I get staying out / up at family occasions or on holidays etc but this just sounds like chavvy parenting tbh.

I think we can probably guess what the response from the parents would be!

cupcaske123 · 10/08/2024 09:17

I'm assuming they're unsupervised. You need to make a report. I would phone 101 and let the police deal with it. Hopefully they'll warn the parents and they won't do it again.

Starlingexpress · 10/08/2024 09:20

What is it with kids screaming these days? Normal playing, a bit of shouting etc I get ( up until 9.30pm at the latest) but the SCREAMING is ridiculous.

Icyy · 10/08/2024 09:31

Are they in the street or in their garden? Both not normal but if in the street I’d call 101

Nw22 · 10/08/2024 12:12

usually in the street until 10/11 then in the garden.
as pp said I don’t think the parents will care as they seem to avoid doing anything with them

I’d be worried for the welfare of the children as well as being fed up with the noise. Log it with 101 online. Keep a record of every incident especially at night. Keep logging. There may be bigger problems and safeguarding issues which the police or SS are aware of. If it’s just noisy kids then the parents will hopefully be spoken to and deal with it, If it’s LA housing then also log with them.
