'Sneaking' two extra children into hotel room booked for two adults and two children

AIBU in thinking this may have implications regarding insurance etc?

Friend is off on holiday later today to a large hotel abroad with her DH and four DC aged between 4 and 16. Not a package, no meals included and flights were booked separately.

The room has a small bedroom, bathroom and living area with a sofa bed. It sleeps 4. They've booked it for two adults and two children. That's the maximum number of people allowed.

She wants to check in with DH, their two youngest boys and all their luggage, and have the two oldest boys wait outside until they're 'sneaked' in a little while later.

I think that whilst this is logistically possible, it will have implications but not sure what these implications might be. Friend thinks there's no problem with this and nobody will bat an eyelid.

AIBU in saying it's not a good idea?

You started it sticking your beak in.

The thread police 👮🏼 need to stand down for fear of maxing out the thread before a final holiday update 😅. Perfectly reasonable to jokingly 'demand' an update. Others are interested too 👀

😂 Fraud for sneaking a couple of kids into a hotel room to sleep. It’s not even all inclusive is it?

Of course it is fraud. Deliberate deception for unfair/unlawful gain. Why would you think it wasn’t?

You wanted an update from OP - I stuck my beak in and told you her update 🤷🏻‍♀️ That’s kind of what you do on a chat forum 🤔

Hello, this is an update for anyone interested...

Friends have returned and, from what they have or haven't said, there seems to have been no repercussions. However, apparantly the hotel is not to be recommended as the rooms are too small!!! As well as there being daily 'sunbed wars' by the pool ( which was also too small apparently)

Also eldest son was bored and spent most of his time in the lobby on his phone, even at night. Makes me feel really sorry for him. I hope he didn't feel pushed out and that he had nowhere else to go.

And friend is annoyed with eldest son and their behaviour as they didn't seem interested in participating in 'family time'.

😂😂😂

I'll bet they felt tiny!

Thanks for the update, that's really made me laugh.

LAMPS1 · 24/08/2024 10:53

Thanks for the update OP.
I bet you were smiling to yourself when your ignorant friend had the cheek to complain about that.
I hope somebody explained to them that if every other booking acted dishonestly like they did, then yes, of course the room size, the pool size and the number of sun beds would have been short by a third.
Next time, your friend had better check that the hotel takes measures to ensure nobody is sneaking an extra two adult sized children in to the room and pool area without paying for them, so that they can be the only special family to expect that sort of thieving entitlement to turn out well.

I can't imagine many 16 year olds wanting to spend time with their primary aged siblings on holiday TBH.

I think they were unrealistic expecting a family room to be able to accommodate to extra guests without feeling cramped. It sounds like it wasn't a great holiday for any of them.

Maybe they will know better next time.

Yeah, I remember caravan holidays as a teen with my parents and primary age sister. When it was raining it was hell. Much better to rent a house with those ages, even if the teen has to sleep in living room, at least there’s usually a bit more space. And if you opt for a safe local village or town, rather than a resort, a teenager can often find local kids/others on holiday to hang out with (e.g. in a square or football pitch) and come and go a bit more.

TheaBrandt · 24/08/2024 12:14

I suppose if you don’t want your older kids to want to holiday with you as soon as they are able to choose it’s a way of achieving that outcome.

😂😂😂I love this update!!

I'm glad for them that there were no major 'repercussions' and they didn't get found out/Thrown out or whatever. Although tbh I was hoping they did get caught. But to complain about the size of the room is CF at its finest!! Not surprised the 16 year old spent most evenings in the lobby - there would have been no way to get any kind of peace in the room.

I'm glad they didn't like it though. Maybe they won't try to be so dishonest the next time

Izzynohopanda · 24/08/2024 18:47

Too small!!!

Vettrianofan · 24/08/2024 18:49

Ah, housekeeping will be right on this one!

They'll get rumbled.

Vettrianofan · 24/08/2024 18:50

Oh sorry, just seen update. Well they were just lucky!
