McDs reopened and massive queues

longlocks · 08/08/2024 20:15

Between my parents and my homes there is a McDs which reopened the other day after 7 weeks of being refurbished. I normally take the shortest route - a mile and a quarter. Due to the massive queues to the drive thru, I have to take the longer route which is double.

Have no idea why people are going to this McDs when they could have gone to the other 5 McDs within 5 miles in all directions in the meantime - it’s the same bloody food!

When McDs started to reopen their drive thrus in sections in early summer 2020, the nearest one in the first phase was 52 miles away. I do litter wombling (litter picking) and a fellow womble found a receipt from this McDs on the first day of reopening. So this pathetic saddo drove 104 mile round trip to get a burger from the very limited menu.

What’s this bloody fascination with McDs? It’s mediocre food. I only visited McDs when I go with my fussy eater friends. Another time my flight home was delayed by 3 hours and then took 2 hours waiting to get luggage. It was about 2am and bloody starving and that time of day the only thing open is McDs.

What an unpleasant thing to say. You don't even know that someone did drive a hundred mile drive trip for McDonald's. They could have been 50 miles away for lots of different reasons and picked up a McDonalds whilst they were there.

I doubt it as on the local Spotted FB groups there were people asking where the nearest McDs was in the first phase of reopening. Then on the day and day after, photos of people eating McDs in a layby within a mile of the place.

Also you couldn't do much then.

How do you know the “pathetic saddo” drove that far specifically for the McDonalds? I have receipt in my car for a Pret that’s 80 miles from my house. I didn’t drive a 160 mile round trip to go to Pret, I happened to be there for other reasons and needed lunch.

MillyMollyMandHey · 08/08/2024 21:03

I’m not a fan, but each to their own.

You in Stoke OP?

WickieRoy · 08/08/2024 21:04

That's adorable @Twistybranch . Lovely story.

BloodandGlitter · 08/08/2024 21:06

Isn't wombling picking up reciepts in the hopes of finding ones with unclaimed points for loyalty cards? At least that's what it meant back when I was on MSE.

Andthereitis · 08/08/2024 21:09

Maybe the fries are hot for the first few days?

Toddlerteaplease · 08/08/2024 21:26

The coffee is good, and cheap. My parents are obsessed with it!!

Livelovebehappy · 08/08/2024 21:40

Love McDonalds. Usually go once or twice a month. Wouldn’t queue at the drive through though if so busy. Would just park up and go inside. 🤷‍♀️

Quite.
I don't go to McDonalds that often, but when I do it is likely to be because I am miles from home, I am hungry and I know it will be quick and predictable and will do the job. I mean I do my best not to litter, but if a receipt was dropped, it wouldn't necessarily mean I'd driven there specifically to get it.

Haha! Classic MNet totally shut down with first reply. This is a chat forum for a bit of chat. I will say people seem to love McDonald's and given that most of the food is in throw away wrappings and the company is worth millions they should do a bit of local litter picking around the restaurants.

They typically do.

Always have at my two closest McDs, and I've seen McDs litter pickers at other, non local ones too.

You have no idea why they would visit the reopened branch? So you missed all the promotional posts offering free food, discounts, balloons for the kids etc?

Babbahabba · 08/08/2024 23:13

God stop being so judgemental. Just don't go if you don't like and let the rest of us enjoy our nasty cheap food 🤷🏻‍♀️

SinnerBoy · 08/08/2024 23:17

I voted that YABU, because you wouldn't spell "through."

I am, it is true, a miserable so and so.

5128gap · 08/08/2024 23:22

It goes something like this. "Shall we get McDs?" "Yeah, go on then. The other ones opened shall we go there?" "Ok".
So off you go to find that the same conversation has taken place in multiple other cars/households. Plus the extra people who've seen the sign saying its opened and its made them fancy one. By which time its quicker to sit in the queue than go to the other one.

Drive thru is spelled thru tho.

It's not a drive through

SinnerBoy · 08/08/2024 23:24

No, Muck Dungholes and Unlucky Fried Kitten may mis-spell it thus, but it's wrong.

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 08/08/2024 23:46

I prefer a rustlers burger 😂

HelenaWaiting · 08/08/2024 23:50

Considering the huge number of people who don't eat and never would eat McDonald's it's not surprising they're going bankru... oh! hang on a minute

OverdueBooks · 09/08/2024 00:03

Depending on your household budget at the moment, McDonalds (and other fast food places) might be the only place you can feed your family of 4 for under £25 as a wee treat.

How do you know the wind hasn’t blown it or critters haven’t carried the receipt? You’re assuming the place you found it is where it was left

RosyappleA · 09/08/2024 00:09

I think money is a massive factor OP. Try feeding a few kids at another burger restaurant vs MacDs. The cost difference would be huge. I hate the food because I worry about what they put in it. Remember watching a documentary on it in my childhood. How the food never ‘went off’ vs other fresh food. I worry about the additives which keep you coming back for more and the oil which is reused God knows how many times. I rarely buy it for DD. Tastes great to me though.

johann12 · 09/08/2024 00:13

It's the buns. I don't eat meat. I buy the Beyond Meat burgers, same brand they use for the veggie burger, but it just isn't the same without the McDonald's buns

No it’s a relatively small McDonald’s in Sussex. Gridlocks the whole bloody town

BH? Or there are at least 2 places in Sussex with similar McDonalds-related traffic carnage!

I don’t get it. Fine if you’re travelling somewhere and that’s the only / best option, but it’s not really somewhere to make a special trip.
