To feel guilty about ordering from Amazon three times in a week

I just ordered something now I want something else. Not expensive stuff. But I think somebody has to deliver that and I should have done them all together, I've got Prime. It's an extravagance but quite handy. I haven't done my third order yet because of guilt!

The problem with amazon is that it does supply and delivery really well whlst maitaining mixxed ethics (it's also a useful site for some small independent businesses). I recently ordered some bras in my size from the only brand I use. It's an English brand. After placing my order I checked the confirmation email, they were being delivered by truck from Germany, it took 6 days. Now, that's not a problem, I wasn't at risk of bing without a bra, however, once they arrived I could see straight away that the fit was wrong and they had to be returned - cue more petrol being burned off. I reorderd a different bra by the same English brand in my usual size on amazon, they arrived the next day, and they also happen to be perfect and don't have to be returned. Same with the one brand I use for socks and tights. Same with toiletries that I would otherwise use the brand's store to purchase, amazon always has them at a cheaper price and next day delivery. I respect the reasons why folks won't use amazon, but it is a great service.

I am annoyed that I can make a purchase with a few of the exact same bra and yet they come in individual cardboard envelopes from different sites, but that isn't something they make us aware at the purchase, much like I didn't realise the others were going by truck from Germany. And at the rate of junk mail that is allowed to come through my door I'm not going to fret over filling up my recycling bin with excessive amazon packaging.

Use the service, its what you're paying for. I do it as well, but it keeps others in jobs. So that helps.

My estate every day there's an amazon delivery van - so what ever I do they are still here - and often park up and walk to several houses.

Even if you do buy at same time and bunch together sometimes delays mean they still come in different deliveries.

We have three or four vans round each day.
Each slightly more crumpled than the last.

DoraSpenlow · 08/08/2024 19:00

Where do you put all the stuff?

RobinEllacotStrike · 08/08/2024 19:04

The more important question is what did you order?

I'm nosy

My last few items ordered:

Phone chargers
Phone chargers (wrong ones)
Foldable coffee dripping things with paper filters.
The Diary of Frida Karlo an Intimate Self Portrait
Electric air pump - USB charged
Eye drops

Chypre · 08/08/2024 19:06

Still better than driving to the shop for every single thing. Their vans are on the road anyway, delivering hundreds of things in one trip. My car would go round the city for the sake of checks notes dog joints supplement, sriracha sauce and pregnancy test. Yes, it was 3 separate orders, but most likely will arrive all in one box.

LBFseBrom · 08/08/2024 19:14

I do it, often, and don't feel guilty. It keeps people in work and the delivery people are always cheerful. I find Amazon very efficient.

This thread blows my mind. What are people buying that regularly requires multiple orders a week?!?

Things I need for work that aren't provided by my employer, stuff for my pets, stuff for daughter, stuff for the house...

Floralnomad · 08/08/2024 19:20

I’ve done 4 Amazon orders this week , one is being delivered to a dog rescue , one has already been delivered here and the other 2 items are coming on my Amazon delivery day as I wasn’t in a rush for them .

BashfulClam · 08/08/2024 19:27

I’m waiting for an order right now lol. Timescale is 7pm-10pm….hurry up!

Cubex · 08/08/2024 19:30

I sometimes order a couple of times a week but they tend to get delivered at the same time anyway as they get delivered mostly by Royal Mail and evri for larger packages as we don’t have Amazon vans where I live

Scarletrunner · 08/08/2024 19:35

Buying from Amazon means the profit from the sale goes to a multibillion $ company in the US.
Ok the people on min wage in warehouse get paid and the driver(prob also on min wage) earns a bit. But the bulk of the money goes to the Chinese manufacturer and Amazon.
But this does not compare to a British company selling you the product and paying tax here.
So if there’s no money for the NHS, housing etc etc etc this is why.

But I mean… what stuff?! I also have a job that doesn’t provide all the things I need (maybe we both work in education 😂), a house, pets, 3 kids… but I just don’t understand what these purchases multiple times weekly might be, unless everyone is buying loads of junk that’s just going to clutter the place up. (I’m not picking on you by the way if it comes across like that - just genuinely a bit bewildered. I do probably order from Amazon once a month or so, I’m not living an entirely frugal existence or anything…)

XenoBitch · 08/08/2024 20:04

I have Prime, and have an Amazon Day thing where they deliver everything on the same day.. but TBH, I don't order that often so I just get it delivered when I need it.

Mespher · 08/08/2024 20:08

I order loads from them, a lot of cleaning stuff, grocery type stuff so I have a lot of deliveries. Also a lot of stuff that shops don't seem to sell now, the van comes down our street most days anyway.

StMarieforme · 08/08/2024 20:09

HumanBurrito · 08/08/2024 10:23

Yes you should. You probably don't need whatever it is anyway. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Amazon are terrible employers and think of all the pollution caused by individual deliveries and packaging.

Evidence please?

Mespher · 08/08/2024 20:09

Unless you live in a remote place the van will be coming up your road probably anyway

Womanofcustard · 08/08/2024 20:10

Amazon are terrible employers. I get a lot of stuff through ebay - and it’s usually cheaper as well.

thursdaymurderclub · 08/08/2024 20:10

3 times in 1 week! blimey i can order 3 times in 1 day some weeks... i really don't know what i would do without amazon now!

Please tell me what I can reduce/reuse/recycle to get the meds for my dog that I get from Amazon?

muddyford · 08/08/2024 20:11

When I have Prime I do that. But I only have Prime when Amazon gives me a free month.

StMarieforme · 08/08/2024 20:12

LlynTegid · 08/08/2024 18:42

Have you tried getting some things locally. Even if you pay a little bit more.

Yes.
I couldn't buy-
A fridge thermometer
Shoe whitener
White shoe laces
Nutribullet

And so I ordered from Amazon

OhmygodDont · 08/08/2024 20:12

sometimes my orders come separately on the same day. I’ve paid my prime. The postie / dpd / evri walks/drives by daily regardless of my post so why would I feel bad 🤷🏻‍♀️

StMarieforme · 08/08/2024 20:13

Apileofballyhoo · 08/08/2024 18:45

It seems they treat employees dreadfully so I rarely use amazon at all. Occasionally if there is some item I absolutely can't source elsewhere. I don't even find that what they sell is cheaper than elsewhere.

Evidence of this please?

OhmygodDont · 08/08/2024 20:15

This thread blows my mind. What are people buying that regularly requires multiple orders a week?!?

Sudden school requests, children suddenly announcing they need something tomorrow, realising we are out of pool chemicals and dhs is at work all day but Amazon is next day 1pm. Because it’s cheaper than the local shop and I’ve checked. I love a bargain. Because I can get it delivered to a local locker while away.
