To ask you to spare a thought for the police officers dealing with these riots?

I know with 100% certainty that some of the officers drafted to help with the riots are new in service, extremely young police officers who are trained to assist with public order. Can you imagine how terrifying this must be for them?

The riots are awful and there will be people on here saying police are not the people we should be most worried about in the riots. Disclaimer - I'm not saying they are but I am saying thank god we have them and I hope they get home safely to their families. The police get a lot of hate and when something happens like this where we really need them thank god we have them and especially those who aren't calling in sick, are putting their kit on and turning up to such terrifying disorder.

I hope the mumsnet police haters consider what a tough job they do and acknowledge how much safer we all are for having them in this.

Removed voting because its not really an aibu it's more of a thank you and thank god.

I agree op!

allotmentgardener · 07/08/2024 21:22

Agreed. I really especially feel for all those with children (and where both partners are police) during the summer holidays when days off and leave have all been cancelled.

LadyPenelope68 · 07/08/2024 21:24

Absolutely agree with this. My son’s girlfriend was on her second full shift when drafted to deal with this. She was utterly terrified!

Scammersarescum · 07/08/2024 21:25

Its not a job I would want to do. I hope they stay safe

PassingStranger · 07/08/2024 21:25

Agree, and hope none of these rioters never need the help.of the police.

If they police without favour, agree whole heartily.

MidnightPatrol · 07/08/2024 21:26

In all the videos I’ve seen the rioters seem to be going for the police.

why?

HotPotato123 · 07/08/2024 21:27

Police from Scotland now being drafted in. Annual leave being cancelled.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 07/08/2024 21:27

I was pleased to see you people bringing out snacks and drinks to the police. They must have appreciated the support when they are often the target of the public’s anger.

why?

Because the rioters are angry at the establishment and the police represent the establishment.

SoManyTshirts · 07/08/2024 21:32

I wonder how the police view the anti-facist demonstrators? I was at a protest recently (had to leave before the aggression became serious). From what I saw police/unity demo interactions were friendly and relaxed. The police cordons were happy to turn their backs on us and the videos show that they were rightly expecting threat to come from the “ban the boats” side.
We were there to stand up for our city and our neighbours and I certainly had no intention of making the police’s job harder.

Pickled21 · 07/08/2024 21:35

I pray that they come home safe to their families. It must feel like a thankless job at times.

It truly is an awful job, and in all honesty I can't understand anyone wanting to do it, but am incredibly grateful that they do.

FumingAintTheWord · 08/08/2024 19:39

It is! I hope its calming down for them now and those with rest days cancelled get some rest soon. In no other job is it normalised to have your r&r time cancelled and it must take its toll
