Lost jewellery

Has anyone ever lost an item of jewellery (or anything really) and found it again in an unusual place? I’ve lost a small “return to Tiffany” pendant that I thought I would sell. I took it out to photograph but subsequently decided not to sell it, and to perhaps offer it to my partner’s daughter. I thought I had returned it to its box but I couldn’t find it anywhere when I looked for it. I’ve cleaned the house from top to bottom, checked under furniture, down the side of the sofa but to no avail. I know I haven’t lost it outside and it’s still in the house somewhere. If it’s not in the house then I can only think that I mistakenly threw it away, perhaps by picking it up with a tissue and binning it.

Has anyone lost something and it’s turned up in an unexpected place? AIBU to think it will turn up? Or am I being too optimistic? It didn’t really have a lot of sentimental value to me, as I was willing to sell it/give it away but I can’t think for the life of me what’s happened to it!

When I was a teenager I was working in a sports shop. One day I lost my grandma’s engagement ring. All the staff looked for it all over.

Weeks later the deputy manager came up to me and said “pick a hand”. When I did he opened his fist and there was my ring. When he was getting a pair of trainers, a box had fallen and hit him in the head, when he picked it up, out fell my ring!

Last time I "lost" jewellery it turned up in the top drawer of a chest of drawers. Must have got swiped off the top.

Thanks for your replies. Glad both your jewellery turned up. As I said, I was going to sell the pendant, but noticed that my partner’s daughter wore a Tiffany bracelet, which was a special birthday gift, so thought she might like the pendant too. Such a pity I now can’t find it!

I know someone who lost a ring, searched everywhere it could be, couldn't find it...
One day was clearing out some boxes she's hadn't moved for years and found the ring there...

I've just found a ring I last had at Christmas. It was on the kitchen window sill. I have previously looked for it there too, so I have no idea how that happened. It was literally right there. 🙄

Yes, stranger things can happen. I once did find a ring in an old cardigan (with pockets) after meticulously searching all my coat pockets. I was going to see if the cardi was suitable to go to the charity shop or bin it and lo and behold, the ring fell out. It wasn’t particularly expensive (Pandora) so silver, not gold, but I wondered how it found its way in there. I must have taken it off as it was annoying me and forgot!

I had pulled my wedding rings up in order to dry under them after washing my hands once & got waylaid by my (then) 5 year old DD asking me to do something in her room for her which I did and afterwards realised that my wedding ring was gone. Searched her room and toy box many times. About 4 or 5 months later I found it in the middle of the floor of her room next to a toy she had brought back from Nanny's. It must have fallen onto the toy somehow, travelled to Nanny's house, stayed there for a few months, travelled back home & fallen off onto the floor. A friend of mine lost her ring, found it weeks later in the freezer next to the peas, presumably fell off whilst rummaging in the freezer. Hope you find it!

I found a missing ring in one of the drawers under my bed where I store wrapping paper, gift bags and ribbons etc - I’d lost it over a year before so was very pleased to find it!

I lost a diamond earring and had given up hope. Found it years later when renovating the kitchen, behind the fully integrated washing machine.

Also had to wait until my son learned to talk, for him to tell me he had dropped my bracelet down the plug hole. Never found that one.

Sadly no. He seemed very sure though!

I lost my wedding ring and engagement ring around April 2022. I don’t wear them daily due to my job. So only noticed they were missing when I had a family event and wanted to wear them. I stripped the house. Offered the kids £100 reward if they found them. Went as far as contacting the jewellers I bought them from to price replacing them. 1.5k diamond ring in 2002 would cost 7k to replace. Obviously wasn’t going to replace. Then on good Friday 2023 I put on a new top and thought I have a necklace and earrings that colour I will wear them today. These were hanging on hooks in my walk in wardrobe and as I lifted them I saw my wedding ring and engagement ring just hiding in plain sight. I actually cried with joy🥰 So there is hope your lost item will turn up

I lost a pair of diamond stud earrings my son bought me. DH found them in the washing machine filter when he cleaned it out about a year later.

@HipTightOnions

One of mine took my great grandmother who was killed in the blitz wedding ring. Had been my wedding ring too.

I found it gone when she was at school. I went to school and got her out of the lesson to talk to her about it. I was that distressed about it.

Found it years later in a box of books. I questioned if it really was my ring at first.
