AIBU to think the amount of sleepovers expected these days is a bit much?
how many sleepovers (at your home) will your 8-12 year girls have this summer holiday?

just wondering if the amount we do is ‘average’ now?

I haven't done them because my OH works odd hours and really needs his sleep. Would be very unfair on him to have kids up late when he's waking at 2/3am for work 🙈

Laundryliar · 05/08/2024 21:12

None here. Possibly 1 if they are lucky. They dont sleep. If they had 3 per week as people here are suggesting they'd be completely shattered by the end of one week let alone 6, and behaviour would be awful due to tiredness!
We'll do a few playdates here and there, but nothing more.

KimKardashiansLostEarring · 05/08/2024 21:12

1 at best friend's and 1 with best friend here. Probably would be hesitant to let him sleep anywhere else. They're usually asleep by 10, so cute. He came home last time and said he wished he could have gone to sleep earlier! He's 9.

newtomoney · 05/08/2024 21:13

I was a single mum .. now remarried.. but we have always lived multiple sleep overs .. from aged 8... at 13 we had a 'camp over l' 16 kids of both sexes .. amazing fun !!

JustMarriedBecca · 05/08/2024 21:14

None. Not a thing here.
The kids are all in clubs from 8am as we have jobs....

frecklejuice · 05/08/2024 21:14

My dd is 10 and having her first one here tonight, this friend is pretty quiet though so I don't mind! We won't have a lot probably another two friends before back to school.

newtomoney · 05/08/2024 21:15

12 yo twin girls. They have “sleepovers” with each other every weekend (I insist on staying in their own rooms during school nights) but they’ll mostly share in the holidays and older dd joins occasionally too. They’re currently at grandparents for a week but them will have a couple of sleep overs each including 3 friends each for their birthdays. They have lovely friends so it doesn’t bother me.

StarDolphins · 05/08/2024 21:18

None! I don’t like them. They seem far more fun than they actually are. No one sleeps, someone cries & I have a massive headache!

Illbeready · 05/08/2024 21:19

None thank god.

Bushmillsbabe · 05/08/2024 21:19

My 8 year old has done sleepovers with family and with Rainbows and Brownies, but none at friends houses yet. She has been asking to have a sleepover for the last couple years for her 7th and then her 8th birthday party but we said no. We have agreed to one for her 9th, and stipulated that it can be max 3 friends, and must be classmates who have done overnights with Rainbows/Brownies so i know they are ok with sleeping away from family.

Tarantella6 · 05/08/2024 21:20

None. They're either in holiday clubs or we are away on holiday. There are advantages to having two parents working but it does mean no lazy summer holiday days just hanging out at home unfortunately!

Superstar22 · 05/08/2024 21:20

Maybe 1? Two boys here. Sleepover will mean 1-2 friends

neverbeenskiing · 05/08/2024 21:20

None. DD (10) is Autistic and finds sleepovers a bit much, she likes her own bed and needs time to recharge after socialising. We will have friends over, and she will go to friends houses, but just for a few hours not overnight.

Disturbia81 · 05/08/2024 21:21

None, 10 and 7

whengodwasarabbit1 · 05/08/2024 21:21

My 10 year old has weekly sleepovers with her cousin. Its easier with family though and no big deal - i dont feel obliged to do anything special and I know her cousin will behave. We will probably do 1 or 2 with her best friend too over the summer holidays

DiscoBeat · 05/08/2024 21:22

Two so far here for the youngest (14) this week, we're very relaxed about it. They usually have them here as we have a lot of space for them to hang out and a drum kit they can use at all hours!

time2changeCharlieBrown · 05/08/2024 21:22

2-3 over the entire summer holidays
hard to coordinate with holidays and work

DeadbeatYoda · 05/08/2024 21:23

Teen DD - a couple a week.
Teen DS - has cousin over to stay for no predetermined amounts of nights.

QueenofFox · 05/08/2024 21:24

My daughter's friends have at least one per week, it really fuels bitchiness in their class. We have them rarely, I like her spending time with her sibs instead - they are close.

Homesweethome23 · 05/08/2024 21:29

None until 13 now they are 14 and have slept at someone’s house 3 times. Never had a sleepover at my house.

MindfulBear · 05/08/2024 21:32

None.

MindfulBear · 05/08/2024 21:33

And I have an 8yo and a 12yo.

Dunnoburt · 05/08/2024 21:34

None (8)
