Hen do - help!

Posting here for traffic…

I’ve buggered up and haven’t organised my friend’s hen night.

Please help me with ideas.

There are 10 of us, aged 27-60. The bride is 40 (second wedding, which will be low-key). Everyone is up for one overnight stay (Saturday night). We need to stay local (ish) to South-East England.

Sorry, I should say the hen night is mid-September.

What type of person is she?

Dance the night away, or a quieter more sedate type.

My daughters hen is next weekend. We’re going here. It’s an escape room type activity followed by dinner cooked by a private chef. Overnight stay and private hot tub. It’s in Essex.

Spa | The Clockwork Hotel

Unwind in the hot tub and relax in the sauna during your stay. Our private hotel spa is exclusively yours for the night and is a great way to reward yourself.

Budget?

Rachie1973 · 03/08/2024 21:44

Knowing how people worry about expense etc I think keeping it low key like the wedding is a good idea,

Spa day if she’s a sedate type of person

an activity like cocktail making class, meal and club if she’s a party animal.

Rachie1973 · 03/08/2024 21:45

Or if she’s plain mental there’s always Butlins over 18 weekends lol, loud, loads to do and as much fun as you want to make it

I don’t know the south east very well but I would say Brighton would be a good fit. A night out in Brighton can be as wild or as chilled as you want.

Maybe look on Air BNB or Sykes and find a nice holiday home that fits 10 of you and plan a DIY cocktail session, you could decorate the place really nicely. If the budget stretches to it you could even get a private chef to make a dinner?

She loves a big night out but lots of her friends are very quiet.

Budget-wise, I’d say £200 each.

I think getting a big house is the way forward then, the party types can party all night and the ones who want to retire to bed can do at any time without splitting up from the group.

Cocktails, maybe even a theme? , some drinking/party games, hen do decorations (featuring penises if they would be appreciated).

Bonus if the house has a hot tub!

Walking tour silent discos look fun for a bit of something different.

I agree with this, my friend had a hen like this and I was sceptical but it was bloody brilliant! We all chipped in for the air bnb and then we all put into a pot for the drinks, decorations etc. Worked so well as we had tonnes of fun, was quite cheap, good balance for people- party vs preferring an early night, no faffing around with taxis etc or people wanting to leave early.

Not everyone's cup of tea though! If she would prefer to actually go out if there's a mix of people maybe a structured activity or meal and then people who want to can carry on the night at a bar or something?

No. But it was only a suggestion 😃 I thought it would suit all types if there are some party animals and some quieter types.

What about something like Proud Cabaret? We did a Drag brunch, followed by afternoon / night out in Brighton but there are evening shows and one in London. I was a little skeptical but was great for a range of ages.

😂 Not everyone wants smut! But yes a butler in the buff is a fab idea.

I do a night away with a group of friends like this every year (no occasion) and it’s far from dull, we all get very drunk and very silly. I never laugh as much as I do on these weekends!

TheTripThatWasnt · 03/08/2024 22:30

I'd be very happy with a big house and not going out! Having to shout to have any hope of conversion (in a busy bar/club) is not my idea of a good night. You can still party the night away, but on your own terms.

I went to a hen do like this and it was brilliant. Think there were inflatable cocks for smut
