The breast stroke swimmers surfaced past the 15m marker when they dived in!

I not sure if that matters for brestroke, as the rules are different for different strokes.

The rules for breaststroke turn are both hands touch the wall, turn, one underwater arm pull, one dolphin leg kick, then you must service before another arm pull. I'm not sure distance matters, although DH isn't awake for me to check, he's the one who judges not me.

I think you’re right.

Googled it, came up with this link to the USA rules , nowhere does it mention 15 meters for breaststroke but does for the other 3 strokes.

Every days a school day and all that.

Even at low level swimming galas the swimming officials are very well trained - I'd be surprised if one of us watching on tv, even if we happen to be trained ourselves, would be better qualified to call it tbh.

I have become an expert judge in so many sports these last ten days!

That’s me told!

More embarrassingly, I used to be a L1 coach albeit 10 years ago.

I’m fairly sure the officials at the most elite and high profile sporting event in the world are better placed to adjudicate on this than you watching it at home on the telly.

TheBizzies · 04/08/2024 11:07

You can see how rumours are spread. Op
starts spouting China should be disqualified without any basis other than her opinion on the rules. If the other people hadn't come along and said actually no you're wrong and provided facts where would it go? If none of us in here knew the rules? It's just an example but hopefully you get my meaning of spreading misinformation

tanstaafl · 04/08/2024 11:27

It was more than 10 years ago come to think, how time flies.

Honest mistake , especially as the other three strokes have the 15m limit. And a British backstroker was dq’d earlier for just exceeding it.

I suppose ‘spreading misinformation’ is arguably correct.
I best leave before I’m accused of being far-right as well.

There was a relay race last night I think when two teams were disqualified.

Coaches and judges aren't the same - I've done officiating in the past too, even had to sit an exam for part of it....a long time after my last school exam too. 😬
