just curious really. DH and I have never done this, and I wondered if that is the norm?

Ridiculous absolutely disgusting makes me so angry. What do you think people did 29 years ago? Either trusted their partner or not? I get the whole vaguely knowing what time someone is going to be home…send a text …leaving now?

If you worry about your partner knowing where you are, you have problems.

BruFord · 03/08/2024 23:47

Blanketpolicy · 03/08/2024 22:54

Doesn't really matter what anyone else does, you do what makes you feel comfortable. Your dh should too.

There will be people on either side of the trust / control fence. Pick your own side.

I agree @Blanketpolicy , people do what suits them.

Like anything that involves trust, there’ll always be a tiny minority who’ll use technology as a form of control. But those unpleasant people will find many ways to exert control over their partners, not just through location tracking.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 03/08/2024 23:48

Yes, and the kids old enough to have phones.

It's really handy occasionally but never checked for no reason.

I don’t worry about it. I been married 25 years thanks. I have no need to track him and vice versa. If someone is going to do something they will anyway.
irs just so weird and people who do this, well I just think it’s massively unhealthy and giving such an unhealthy message to your kids

I was just about to say this! & didn't lots of people say their phone could be out by a few miles (or even countries! 😆)

@theleafandnotthetree no of course not, I've gone swimming & running all by myself too the horror! I was just saying if that other poster gets some reassurance from having her OHs location while he's out hiking then what's the harm?

Or is it that you just don’t want to know where he is because he might be up to no good. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so worried about sharing your location.

Honestly! Have never heard of such paranoid nonsense.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 04/08/2024 00:07

My DH and I do - as do our two DCs. All four of us can see each other's locations and none of us has had a problem with it. I find it handy and, in the case of the DCs, reassuring.

Elphamouche · 04/08/2024 00:19

Yep, and my mum and sister have us both and our best friend has us both (obviously we have all of them too).

It’s really fucking handy for working out how long someone will be. We don’t use it to check up on each other, DH has a really unpredictable job, so I used to worry when I’d wake up and him not be home when he said he would be (calm down MN he wasn’t cheating, we work together - I know he was working!!) especially as that particular overnight shift is dangerous. Now I can see he’s still at work and go back to sleep. He puts the kettle on and makes the babies milk when I’m 20 mins from home. He does look to check where I am when I’m doing long drives etc.

None of us have any issue with it - other than my dad doesn’t have an iPhone so he’s not on it and he’s a bloody nightmare 😂

What?? I’m paranoid?? I don’t understand your response?

I know where my husband is during work hours and then when if not at home he tells me where he is going. Why on earth would I need to know more? I completely trust him and if he was going to do anything then I’m sure he would find a way

BluebellsareBlue · 04/08/2024 00:27

We do, he drives long distances for work and I walk the dogs in the dark. He'll text me to tell me he's on his way home and doesn't like to call when driving ( due to accident iver 15 years ago) so I, if I feel he's a lot later, can check he's ok. He watches when I'm out late with dogs for the places I can feel spooked and calls me when I'm walking through them. We live the app

KreedKafer · 04/08/2024 01:16

It’s never once occurred to me that this was a thing couples did. I’ve literally never thought of it.

I just asked DP if he’d ever thought of it, and he looked at me as if I’d gone insane. He then said it sounded like something that the husband would set up without the wife’s knowledge in a psychological thriller where it turns out the husband was the mystery stalker all along.

MyPeppyTaupeFox · 04/08/2024 01:25

We do and honestly it's really handy. We can see how far each of us is from home (so can time dinner perfectly for example!) or just tap to get directions to each other. My husband works on the road so it means I can see he is safe even if we're apart for a few days. We can also just check in with each other without actually speaking to one another. It was exceedingly reassuring recently when I had an accident and was waiting for him to get back (as well as the ambulance being enroute) as I could see his progress while I was lying there and knew he would be home soon. Some days I don't look at it at all and other days I'll check it several times for whatever reason. It's never "checking up" but more "checking in".

You know talking on the phone and not being aware of your surroundings is actually more of a risk?

Don’t be so silly 😂 I think some of it also a generational thing, if you’ve grown up pre internet tracking it’s much more normal to have no desire or need whatsoever to track anyone, it’s the complete opposite of being paranoid.

Edingril · 04/08/2024 01:33

No there is no reason we are grown ups and communicate

blueshoes · 04/08/2024 01:38

Wonder what @PommelHoss could have said or done for their posts to be completely expunged from this thread.

Gogogo12345 · 04/08/2024 01:41

I share my live location with OH if I'm doing a long journey. Saves him texting about what time am I likely to get back ( usually he's cooking)

Day to day I don't bother. I don't think he's ever shared his

What's your point? If there was no location tracking, wouldn't you be even more inclined to call? So are you against calling each other as well?

blueshoes · 04/08/2024 01:45

theleafandnotthetree · 03/08/2024 23:45

I regularly go hiking by myself at weekends and commit the cardinal sin of doing so while being single and having no one monitoring my movements. Maybe I should stay at home just in case 🙄. Even if I was in a relationship with someone who cared to keep track - highly unlikely - I think it would spoil the whole thing for me. If one were going somewhere very remote or dangerous it might be wise to tell someone where you were going and a rough return time but I confess I've never done so. I'm probably a bit more cautious now with dependent children but once they are adults I certainly will do more of what I want and won't be telling anyone..and if the worst comes to the worst, well we all have to go and I'll have lived life on my terms and freely. That to me is everything.

Sounds great. What a free spirit. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise Hmm

@KreedKafer 🤣

@BluebellsareBlue I’m opposite with walking the dog, it’s my escape from family life! I sneak out with the dog sometimes. We do live in a city with well-lit streets though.
