Disagree with communal fridge

Our neighbour, we shall call them “neighbour X” recentl started a discussion on the street WhatsApp about needing a communal fridge so anyone on the street can store excess fridge stuff over the summer. Everyone chipped in and “neighbour x” bought the fridge.

I am starting to get a bit miffed about it all, as firstly the fridge is kept at neighbour Xs house, which means they kind of control it. Secondly, we needed to use it recently to store excess drinks as we were having people over. Guess what, it was full so no use at all.

What has really annoyed me is that I have since heard it was mainly full due to neighbour X filling it with their own stuff. I am feeling really annoyed that we chipped in £50 for something we cannot even use when we need it. AIBU?

I can't believe Mr. X has so many daft neighbours. He saw all of you coming 100 miles away. Unless you want a massive falling out and a feud that will last until one of you moves, let it go.

sonofrageandlove · 02/08/2024 18:37

Haha this is INSANE why would you do this

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/08/2024 18:38

The worst idea ever, amazed anyone agreed to it or fronted the money

keepYourDogQuiet · 02/08/2024 18:38

😂

I'm waiting for the neighbour to start charging for the extra electric the communal fridge is using 😂

sunsetsandboardwalks · 02/08/2024 18:39

Oh come on, really? They've just conned you all into paying £50 towards their new fridge 😂

Onehotday · 02/08/2024 18:40

I'm sorry to say that your neighbour saw you all coming.

There needs to be a Fridge Moving party each weekend. Said fridge is moved from one contributor to another so everyone gets time to hog the space. Exceptions made for birthdays and the like.

Such fun and frolics await you all.

Brilliant!!

GoogleWhacked · 02/08/2024 18:40

This is the most bizarre idea ever!!!! WTAF 🤯
I think neighbour x has conned you all into buying him a new fridge 😵‍💫

burnoutbabe · 02/08/2024 18:40

I'd agree a rota do it's moved every 3 months.

I mean it's mad anyway but I'd want to have my turn or justl my own half's shelf.

Can't be more than 6-8 people involved as fridges are only £400 or so? So you each own half a shelf?

BigBarm · 02/08/2024 18:40

I’ve been on here for about 16/17 years and this is maybe the craziest thing I’ve read on here. 🤣

pocketaces · 02/08/2024 18:40

This has to be real. Its so crazy not even a troll seeking attention would think of it.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/08/2024 18:41

I think this thread might be destined for the MN Classics.

xyz111 · 02/08/2024 18:41

Of course it was going to end in tears, it's so obvious 🤣. What an absolute bizarre thing.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 02/08/2024 18:41

This is a totally mad idea. Can you imagine the chaos at Christmas!

BeachBae · 02/08/2024 18:42

If this is real, more fool you op 😂

Aquamarine1029 · 02/08/2024 18:42

If Mr. X suggests a communal car that he'll park in his garage, you should probably pass.

What if the neighbour goes away at Christmas and the other neighbours can't access their party food n booze? They've not thought it through 😂

Homesweethome23 · 02/08/2024 18:43

Brilliant! Neighbour needs a new fridge to store his items and gets the neighbours to pay for it! Does he also send a monthly bill for the electricity it uses? 😂

Laloca2000 · 02/08/2024 18:43

Your neighbour is a class brass neck! Clever idea to get others to pay for your stuff!! I thought you were going to say it was kept in the local community hall or similar...not their house! 😆

Tagyoureit · 02/08/2024 18:43

How many neighbours are there?
Did they all chip £50?
Why does 1 neighbour have complete control?
How were you all dumb enough to fall for this?

Fridge neighbour having a right chuckle at you lot, you've paid for his new fridge and paid to bloody fill it too!

Shinyandnew1 · 02/08/2024 18:44

What a bizarre suggestion-I can’t believe you paid!

Ivehearditbothways · 02/08/2024 18:44

Why wouldn’t you just buy a 2nd fridge on Facebook for £50 and stick it in the garage?

This is a very strange idea. Why is it in their house and not a garage somewhere everyone can access? You’re just storing food at someone else’s house and expecting access anytime you need? The whole street?

Insane.

whosthefoolnow · 02/08/2024 18:44

Sounds like he needed a fridge and you all bought him one.

Thesecretingredientiscrime · 02/08/2024 18:45

Bloody hell. How big is this fridge to have costed 50 quid each? How many neighbours share this supposedly communal fridge? I'd be drawing dividing lines on the thing with a massive fuck off felt tip.
