I can't find the original thread posted here, so sorry to start another. For anyone interested the XY boxer, Imane Khelif is to box tomorrow: Live on Eurosport from 11:20 versus Angela CARINI from Italy. It beggars belief that a genetically determined male gets to box the shit out of a female.

This thread?

I've never heard of either of them but I put the name into the search function for you.

There needs to be a protest. Women cannot be expected to face men in the boxing ring.

I was hoping for a mass protest against the Dutch volley ball player who taped a 12 year old. I fully expected his teammates & competitors to boycott.. Sadly didn't happen.

mirrensidhe · 01/08/2024 03:42

I suppose it is something these athletes have worked for their whole life and then to protest, imagine if nobody follows you. Thanks @JabbaTheBeachHut I am going to original thread.

Yes that's the thing. I really feel for the beautiful Italian girl today, her country has spoken out but it's not enough. I don't think I can bring myself to watch the match.

Naunet · 01/08/2024 08:47

Yep, today the IOC feel it’s acceptable for a man to fight a woman and to have it broadcast around the world, whilst instructing journalists to use inaccurate language in order to hide their culpability. Tell me how this isn’t pure male supremacy?

Have you read the update on that article?

In the hours after this article was first published, the International Boxing Association (IBA) circulated a new public statement to international media. In it, the IBA says the disqualifications of the boxers were based on "recognised testing."
The statement says: "the athletes did not undergo a testosterone examination but were subject to a separate and recognised test, whereby the specifics remain confidential. This test conclusively indicated that both athletes did not meet the required necessary eligibility criteria and were found to have competitive advantages over other female competitors."

GoldenPombear · 01/08/2024 09:06

If they have XY chromosomes they're a man. They shouldn't be anywhere near a woman's boxing match. @KrisAkabusi

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 09:11

Well now we all know how much the IOC value women in sports.

Btw, they were hoping that by slapping significant restrictions on what could/couldn't be said about the sex of the competitors that they could keep this largely out of the public eye.

LostTheMarble · 01/08/2024 09:12

KrisAkabusi · 01/08/2024 08:57

That suggests they have Y chromosomes. Having seen Khelif, it is very difficult to believe they’re ’just androgynous’ with XX chromosomes.

It IS male supremacy. Anyone can see that.

They’re too cowardly to even own their decision.

Quite

MysticalLibrarian · 01/08/2024 09:45

What in the actual…these are both men, who are being allowed to box against women in the Olympics. They were already disqualified from the World Championships for failing testosterone tests, yet they’re allowed to punch women in the face now?

Admittedly no, I first read it yesterday and didn't see it updated. I don't see much has changed though - a corrupt organisation that is no longer recognised by the IOC has made a claim for which they are still unwilling to provide any details or evidence.

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 10:06

Worth reading the reactions to the 'update' from RTE

Ahh so it’s about evidence? What evidence has the IOC provided to show they’re biologically female then? I assume you hold both to the same standards, right?

The very odd language is in part due to reporting restrictions from the IOC.

KrisAkabusi · 01/08/2024 10:13

Of course it's about evidence. If they are men, of course they shouldn't be allowed to compete. But so far there isn't any.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/08/2024 10:15

I beggars belief in 2024 that anyone, of either sex, gets to beat the shit out of each other.

Oh, there I was thinking anyone with a working set of eyes can see the first bit of evidence for themselves.

So you’re going to ignore the female boxers who have fought this man and spoken out about it, ignore the IBC because the IOC declare them corrupt, even though the IOC have been pretty corrupt themselves over the years, and ignore your eyes? Interesting.

I guess some people will be getting off on this.

Naunet · 01/08/2024 10:21

Also you’ve failed to mention what evidence you’ve seen from the IOC?
