a teacher by background, I left when my kids were very little and set up as a private tutor, working while the children were asleep. I currently work 6-8.30pm four nights a week while my other half does bath time and bedtime. The money is okay - enough for us to get by and means I can do all pick ups and drop offs from school.
the kids are now approaching school age and I’m tempted to return to the classroom or look for a job with more ‘social hours” but this would require us to put the children into wrap around care- at least for 3-4 days a week. I don’t know what’s best for them. I’d have more stable earnings and career progression but I think it would be a big upheaval for the family.
However, I really miss my evenings and I don’t think this set up will work longer term. Teaching is obviously very challenging and not always family friendly but it does bring the school holidays. I don’t know how the children will fare with wrap around care. Can anybody share their insights?
