Vinted - AIBU

I’ll start by saying I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong and this is first time in 3 years and 500 transactions this has happened on Vinted.

Put a dress on to sell. Priced reasonably but I’m always willing to accept a good offer. Someone offers £2 below asking price do fair enough I accept.

I hear nothing more from, go out for the afternoon, come home and I’ve had another offer for same amount. So I accept that too and that person immediately buys.

A couple of hours later I get a pretty irate message from the first buyer saying I’d made an obligation to sell to her by accepting her offer and I’ve behaved appallingly. That I hadn’t given her the opportunity to pay for the item - this was around 5/6 hours after her offer was accepted. Furthermore she’s reporting me to Vinted for ‘poor form’ and hopes they take action against me.

Quite frankly I think she’s being ridiculous and if she was that interested should have purchased as soon as I accepted her offer but just wanted others views.

I suppose it’s a case of snooze you lose imo

That's ridiculous, it's common that you get offers or .ake offers and need to act fast if you want the item that badly, snooze you lose! Vinted won't do anything at all and if they want to waste their time then more fool them.

Scorpion84 · 31/07/2024 14:03

You snooze you lose . I've had three offers all at the same time roughly , so I accepted all three and whoever brought it the quickest got the item

Crunchymum · 31/07/2024 14:04

Block this loon.

If they were that desperate for the item they'd have paid full price and purchased immediately to secure the item.

Star81 · 31/07/2024 14:04

You’ve done nothing wrong. Some people on Vinted are mental. I’ve had people asking if I can hold and item for a few days until they get paid - I’m not a shop - also sometimes people make bids , you accept and then you never hear from them again !

LivingDeadGirlUK · 31/07/2024 14:04

shes bonkers.

hildabaker · 31/07/2024 14:04

Take no notice OP. You have done nothing wrong. I have generally found Vinted buyers to be nice, but there's always a few weirdos on any platform.

SamW98 · 31/07/2024 14:05

I always accept several offers for the same amount and it’s first to hit buy gets the item.

Must admit I did reply with a 👍 and I am tempted to block the sore loser.

OP posts:
Redhil · 31/07/2024 14:05

I think it just comes down to what vinted says you can do when someone makes an offer. If you've acted in the terms then you don't need to worry.

MonsteraMama · 31/07/2024 14:07

She obviously just doesn't understand how the platform works and thought that you accepting her offer meant that she'd sort of reserved the item and could pay in her own time.

You've done nothing wrong, it's very much a case of snooze you lose. Vinted will do nothing because all you've done is utilise a feature of the platform! If she doesn't like that she can shop elsewhere.

Lougle · 31/07/2024 14:10

I made an offer on an item on Vinted, which was accepted. Then when I tried to buy it a couple of hours later (I got a message to say offer accepted), it was sold. I contacted the seller and she explained that it doesn't reserve the item. I think the confusion is that when you sell an item on Ebay, if an offer is accepted you are obligated to purchase the item, so it's 'yours' from the moment you have your offer accepted. On Vinted, an accepted offer doesn't obligate you to buy the item, or commit the seller to you.

scoobs321 · 31/07/2024 14:11

You are not being unreasonable, this is how the platform works - even Ebay has started to do this too.

SamW98 · 31/07/2024 15:07

I’d love to hear from one of the 16% who think IBU what they think I did wrong?

OP posts:
StBernie · 31/07/2024 15:14

YANBU I’ve been the potential buyer in this scenario and, although disappointed, I was well aware that it was my fault for being too slow!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/07/2024 15:16

You didn’t do anything wrong OP. But I must admit I do think the Vinted system is crap for buyers (but I guess it must be better for Sellers) . I usually only buy from EBay now, as I can trust that if there’s a problem - like being sent completely the wrong item 🙄,you’ll get your money back asap and I think the website is easier to use too. I only use Vinted now for things that are really hard to find elsewhere.

WetBandits · 31/07/2024 15:16

Oh, just block her! If she really wanted the item, she’d have paid you what you originally asked for and wouldn’t have found herself on the losing side of a bidding war!

Onehotday · 31/07/2024 15:18

Vinted has an item reserve feature. If she was so bothered she could have asked you to reserve it.

Hankunamatata · 31/07/2024 15:36

I didn't know this with vinted. I assumed when I buyer accepted an offer then they take the item off sale then the buyer would have 24 hours to pay.

takealettermsjones · 31/07/2024 15:41

Nope she's potty. Vinted makes it clear that you have to pay to complete the sale. Just tell her someone jumped in and bought it at full price, then it's nothing to do with you accepting anything

I've had some right entitled buyers on Vinted. Used to bother me, now I just block. Can't be bothered with it!

SamW98 · 31/07/2024 15:44

Hankunamatata · 31/07/2024 15:36

I didn't know this with vinted. I assumed when I buyer accepted an offer then they take the item off sale then the buyer would have 24 hours to pay.

With Vinted once the offer is accepted, the buyer gets sent a message saying they have to go ahead and buy. Until they click on ‘buy now’ the item stays on sale.

The fact this woman didn’t respond until 5/6 hours later then gets hump - well it’s on her imo for not responding sooner.

OP posts:
Fifteentreefrogs · 31/07/2024 15:45

She's nuts. She won't get anywhere reporting you to vinted.
You get some oddballs sometimes. Just life!!
Just ignore her.
You haven't done anything wrong at all. How on earth were you to know she would ever come back and actually buy the item? And if someone does actually buy the item that happens automatically. If she really wanted it she should have bought it immediately or asked you to reserve it.
There are also some oddballs on mumsnet so you'll hardly ever get unanimous AIBU results.. there will always be a few who vote the other way even if it's completely incomprehensible why. So I wouldn't bother about that!

CableCar · 31/07/2024 15:46

You're right, it's snooze and you lose. I've been made an offer before, but not got there in time so the item went - it was my bad! YANBU at all.

CableCar · 31/07/2024 15:47

Also, I've had bundles before where an item has been sold before I've bought the whole bundle, and then the bundle offer has to be revised because it's 1 item less. Such is life. Don't worry OP! Your feedback is testimony to your being a great vinted seller!

OhmygodDont · 31/07/2024 15:47

Lots of weird people on vinted. Like the ones who buy clothes that actually show a size and I mean say a top that’s 145cm type thing in the label photos. Then complain it’s a child’s S not an adults S despite being in the children’s section when listed. Bonkers.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 31/07/2024 15:48

Not at all unreasonable OP, accepting an offer isn't a sale yet so fair enough the next person buys immediately.

I swear since the forum was taken away some Vinted members are taking the piss even more.

I had a buyer send me a stupidly low offer on an item. I refused and sent a counter and slightly higher than his, offer. Radio silence. Fair enough.

A week later he once again sent he same low ball offer he had previously done. I declined and sent a slightly higher than my last, counter offer. To show willing. Radio silence.

I've now deleted the conversation and if he tries taking the piss again I'm just going to block.

Fifteentreefrogs · 31/07/2024 15:48

Hankunamatata · 31/07/2024 15:36

I didn't know this with vinted. I assumed when I buyer accepted an offer then they take the item off sale then the buyer would have 24 hours to pay.

No. The buyer has to then actually purchase the item or ask for it to be reserved. An offer doesn't automatically reserve or buy the item.
I think it's better that way as you can change your mind in the interim if you like as the buyer.. or as the seller you can accept a higher offer.
For me I often bid on the same item from different sellers to see who accepts the lowest offer and then I buy that one and leave the others.
