I’ll start by saying I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong and this is first time in 3 years and 500 transactions this has happened on Vinted.

Put a dress on to sell. Priced reasonably but I’m always willing to accept a good offer. Someone offers £2 below asking price do fair enough I accept.

I hear nothing more from, go out for the afternoon, come home and I’ve had another offer for same amount. So I accept that too and that person immediately buys.

A couple of hours later I get a pretty irate message from the first buyer saying I’d made an obligation to sell to her by accepting her offer and I’ve behaved appallingly. That I hadn’t given her the opportunity to pay for the item - this was around 5/6 hours after her offer was accepted. Furthermore she’s reporting me to Vinted for ‘poor form’ and hopes they take action against me.

Quite frankly I think she’s being ridiculous and if she was that interested should have purchased as soon as I accepted her offer but just wanted others views.

I suppose it’s a case of snooze you lose imo

Not at all unreasonable OP, accepting an offer isn't a sale yet so fair enough the next person buys immediately.

I swear since the forum was taken away some Vinted members are taking the piss even more.

I had a buyer send me a stupidly low offer on an item. I refused and sent a counter and slightly higher than his, offer. Radio silence. Fair enough.

A week later he once again sent he same low ball offer he had previously done. I declined and sent a slightly higher than my last, counter offer. To show willing. Radio silence.

I've now deleted the conversation and if he tries taking the piss again I'm just going to block.

That's reasonable tho? Maybe he thought you'd reconsider as it had been a week and you still hadn't sold the item? I accept low offers if my items have been up a long time

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/07/2024 15:52

She didn't ask you to reserve it for her whilst she: sorted it payment/went to work/took her mum to the hospital. She just made an offer. No commutmevt on anybody's side. I accepted offer 10 days ago and have never heard from that potential buyer again.

SamW98 · 31/07/2024 15:52

Oh there’s definitely some mad ones out there but this is first time I’ve been reported for ‘poor form’ - Vinted barely respond to genuine issues let alone some stroppy mare.

Im used to ludicrous offers. I’ve put an item on for say £30 then within minutes I get a ‘would you take £13’ or whatever the lowest possible offer is and then they keep increasing by 50p or £1 hoping to break me down

I deleted my vinted account after 6 months as I sent a brand new pair of shoes to a buyer (I bought for £45) for £12. She sawed the heels off and then wanted a refund! Vinted sided with her despite me showing them original dates photos of what they looked like before posting.

MugPlate · 31/07/2024 15:56

Nothing will happen. Vinted openly allow counterfeits and scammers, so I doubt they'll give a hoot about 'nice giving me enough time to pay.'

Do block her though.

staringatthedoor · 31/07/2024 16:21

Some people are so petty. Got given bad feedback by someone who sent me an item that was not as described. Size wise. Said different size in the label I wasn't making it up. Told her so. Said I would donate it as not worth arguing over such a small amount. She said the comments were hurtful & upsetting or something along those lines. Maybe she had a bad day I don't know. No you did nothing wrong. They got there first.

Cherrysoup · 31/07/2024 16:42

I prefer the eBay system that automatically means you buy if your offer is accepted. Some Vinted buyers take the piss, don’t offer then ignore the acceptance! Had this yesterday. Stupid system.

memyselfi · 31/07/2024 17:23

If I want an item I pay straightaway . It was only when my feedback said things like ' fast payer ' did I realise not everyone does this .
But yes , she's in the wrong .

The thing is they've probably made an offer on several similar items with the intention of buying one .

HemelHan · 31/07/2024 17:32

If I can’t pay for something straight away (generally if I’m waiting for credit from a sale to come through and I intend to pay with that) I let the seller know immediately and ask to reserve the item, with a specific time frame for when I can pay. Usually they are fine with that, sometimes they have said no and I lose the item or pay for it then and there… I would never expect to let it sit there forever until I pay for it

OrigamiOwls · 31/07/2024 17:41

Vinted terms & conditions specifically state that until the item is paid for its still for sale.
She's a fool. If she was that keen on it she should should have paid the asking price and locked in the purchase.

SaintHonoria · 31/07/2024 17:41

She's made a fool of herself.

harmfulsweeties · 31/07/2024 18:03

Oh, Vinted definitely brings out the crazies at times.

You did nothing wrong. It even says when you have an offer accepted on an item that you must now pay for it to secure the sale. So, it's not like the system could be any clearer.

It sounds like she thinks you accepting her offer is her reserving the item when that's just not how Vinted works. It's a first to pay, first to receive system. If every offer that was accepted resulted in items being reserved and taken off sale for other potential buyers- a lot of sellers would be down as so many people put offers in and then never return to purchase the item.

I've only ever put offers in if I know I can pay then and there should it get accepted. I've had numerous offers made on my already low-priced items and people not return to buy them and it is a bit puzzling. I get it-maybe they found it somewhere else or something else-but make sure it's what you want before putting the offer in?

I'd block her and not waste a moment engaging with her nonsense. Vinted will tell her that she's wrong and no doubt she won't accept it. She'll still be countering about how it was "poor form" to sell to the person who actually stumped up the money.

Cherrysoup · 31/07/2024 18:34

memyselfi · 31/07/2024 17:27

Probably, but I only offer if I really want it. Save it to favourites but don't offer, it then creates a dilemma if someone buys it on a different platform.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 31/07/2024 19:17

@Fifteentreefrogs maybe he did but I wasn't prepared to sell as low as he offered and I still countered with a below asking price instead. I don't sell my stuff Rick bottom but price low enough to reflect the condition and the way the platform works and most of my stuff goes for asking although maybe not for a few months. I'm not desperate to get rid of stuff as anything I have that doesn't go after a couple a months I donate to charity instead.

I also sent a quick friendly message in addition to hitting decline and he chose not to engage. Had he been a bit more friendly I think I would have been more inclined to meet closer to his figure.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 31/07/2024 19:18

Rock bottom even Grin

ViaRia01 · 31/07/2024 19:24

You did nothing wrong. I think vinted would side with you as it does not automatically reserve an item once the offer is accepted so it just surely be allowed to sell to someone else in this situation.

I do, however, tend to write a message to the buyer if I accept their offer to clarify that the item is not being reserved for them and that it is first come first served. I mainly do this in an attempt to prompt a sale, not because I think I have made a commitment to them.

Pinkapie · 04/08/2024 08:13

If vinted allow another buyer to make an offer then that's on them. If the site didn't want you to accept a second offer they have put the system in place where you couldn't accept another offer.

AllAboutJeeves · 04/08/2024 08:22

Make sure you block her quickly!
she could go through your remaining items and start reporting them for whatever reason. Vinted could end up suspending or expelling you for breaking some unknown rule or other.

MadameMassiveSalad · 04/08/2024 08:24

You snooze you lose.

MadameMassiveSalad · 04/08/2024 08:24

Onehotday · 31/07/2024 15:18

Vinted has an item reserve feature. If she was so bothered she could have asked you to reserve it.

This.

pasturesgreen · 04/08/2024 08:25

Surely you'd just block?
Vinted is full of chancers and timewasters, I've had people make offers then disappear off the face of the earth once I accepted them more times than I care to remember. Imagine if I'd reserved the item every time.

Lilysgoneshopping · 04/08/2024 08:32

Aye you snooze you lose. I have accepted offers but then heard no more. Then someone else has swooped in with a better offer 😀

LinaLouLa · 04/08/2024 08:40

You've done nothing wrong.
If she wanted it that badly she should have just paid full price. It's first come first served on there.

GoFigure235 · 04/08/2024 08:48

I just block anyone who's unreasonable.
