To think he shouldn't have been paid in full while off long term. As its more like being self employed.
But mainly cos it was 475k upwards of our TV licence money!
Another example is when a famous radio presenter s decide to go off for an extended break to film another show or something. Surely they don't get normal pay when they have extra weeks off not on air!!

He was suspended awaiting review, he could well have been found not guilty so on that basis he should have been paid imo.

It should be repaid if there is a guilty verdict.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 31/07/2024 12:44

@hellotowel what??

LostTheMarble · 31/07/2024 12:45

Just realised though, the amount of gloating at The Sun newspaper today will be on another level after they were absolutely lambasted for breaking the original story…

Makes me sick watching BBC News today knowing that any one of these men could be a wrongun. Honestly I think the time has come to ban men from holding high-profile responsible jobs, it's just too risky.

FFS.

I mean. Total over reaction.

Compl inappropriate, I know, but Huw does look quite cool today with his sharp suit, silver hair & dark shades, doesn’t he?

Are you for real?

Runnerinthenight · 31/07/2024 12:48

HRTQueen · 31/07/2024 12:22

of course he should not have been on full pay but once again the BBC turned a blind eye to one of their most popular tv presenters

Employment law says you are wrong!

Don't watch it then?

But I'm not sure how you can be sure any news reader or tv presenter is whiter than white?

He didn't actively seek indecent images of children. Quite the opposite. Although he did like them as young as legally allowed, he didn't seek out children.

Did he “accidentally” receive 37 child sexual abuse* images of children over a period of months?
If he received one, immediately blocked the sender and went straight to the police then I could understand, but 37 over a period of time - no, just no.

*let’s call it what it is - not indecent images, not child porn but child sexual abuse

Poster boy for all the child rapists out there.
I don’t think he’ll be looking as ‘sharp’ in prisons clothes

Runnerinthenight · 31/07/2024 12:50

Naunet · 31/07/2024 12:25

Not even about his 40k pay rise whilst suspended?

I don't know how that came about but I am guessing he couldn't be disadvantaged due to his suspension.

Over40Overdating · 31/07/2024 12:50

@Wetherspoons I could not care less about the BBC. I don’t pay a TV license.

What I do care about is people using an horrific crime like CSA as an excuse to rant and rail about the BBC. How does that help victims of CSA? It doesn’t. Gives the ragers a nice little glow of outrage though.

I care about employment law and due process being followed so that everyone can expect to be treated fairly in any circumstance where they may be on sick or gardening leave pending an investigation.

Given HE was only charged in June and had been cleared of any other offences until that date, what grounds could the BBC have sacked him under that wouldn’t have lead to a tribunal and a payout of a lot more of ‘your’ money?

If we now want to fire people on public outage alone, I hope everyone here with the BBC pitchforks has a spotless work record.

Reactionary ‘justice’ very often comes knocking at the wrong doors.

Is it really an overreaction though? Just think how much better society would be if all these roles were held by women.

Men are often sexual predators and are just generally overrated for their contributions to humanity.

Iwasafool · 31/07/2024 12:50

Aquarius1234 · 31/07/2024 09:58

BBC shouldn't pay the same amount when a presenter is having a long holiday or doing another gig for example 2 / 3 months.
BBC news presenters earn too much anyway.

Depends on the contract. If his contract said he was entitled to full pay then he was entitled. Maybe you should go and audition and see if you get offered a good contract.

Astounded that they let a paedo announce the Queen's passing.

They didn't bloody know!!!!

Yeah they claimed not to know about Savile either but they covered that up too.

He’ll be using his unearned money to pay his barrister.
My bet is he gets sent to a mental health unit for 6 months, gets put on a register and carries on living his life supported by his dw.

I think they've just split up...

By the likes of Jon Sopel who vociferously defended his friend Huw Edwards - as someone who should be allowed a private life and ‘no criminality’ had occured. He also slagged off other BBC colleagues for reporting on it! Wonder how he’s feeling today? I actually feel sorry for those who defended him because he lied to them too. No wonder he had a huge MH crisis, he knew what was coming.

THANK YOU - I am shocked and sickened at the number of news outlets calling it CP, when there is NO SUCH THING.

'Images of child sexual abuse'

I don’t believe The Sun broke the news out of true journalistic integrity. I believe it’s a happenstance that they found an ugly story about a BBC presenter which of course has lead to today. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe the original story puts him in a good position but it wasn’t part of the illegalities that have since come out. It’s still a very moral grey area whether that initial story had public value on its own merit.

Shaketherombooga · 31/07/2024 12:54

There’s a massive gap between ‘whiter than white’ and sexual predator watching images of child rape and child sexual abuse, isn’t there?
