To be really freaked out about seeing someone that wasn’t there??

My partners mum, step-dad, brother and 2 nieces are on holiday at the seaside so to we took our little one for the a day trip to have a beach day with his cousins today.

As we were driving into where they are staying and my partner was packing I said to him ‘I didn’t know your whole family was here’ when I saw his grandma standing next to his mum. He must have assumed that I was talking about his stepdad as he didn’t respond to it in a weird way/ask what I meant.

Then when we were inside I asked where his grandma had gone and where she was sleeping as they only have 2 bedrooms. Well it turns out that she isn’t there and is at home and I couldn’t have seen her because she’s not there??

What on earth happened?? What/who did I see?? Am I crazy now? 🙈

Hey OP, we are all invested in your granny now. Please tell us she is ok. You cannot just cut and run.

TheNuthatch · 30/07/2024 23:53

Please let us know that granny's safe and well op.

freakedoutseeingthings · 30/07/2024 23:56

Hi, sorry I’m still here but I have no update 🫣 My partner doesn’t believe in stuff like this and said it was too late to call her when we got home but I will get him to call her tomorrow and let you all know how she is but I was thinking it could possibly be a sign that something is wrong/has happened/is going to happen 😬

Maybe Granny's fine but OP's gone to a better place.

Redglitter · 30/07/2024 23:57

Maybe the OP hasnt come back because she's driving home having just heard Granny died today 🤔

Good theory, shame about the cross post 🤣

Richard1985 · 30/07/2024 23:26

Are you suggesting the OP may be ill?

Surely it’s far more reasonable to presume that Granny died earlier in the day and her ghost fancied a quick trip to the seaside before heading up to the pearly gates

1 million % this ^^ 🤣🤣

Someone says they're hallucinating and so many Mumsnetters jump to 'must've been a ghost', rather than you need to see your GP, every single time 🙄🤣

One Christmas Eve I was travelling to a relatives. I swear I saw a sleigh and lights going across the sky of our town. Freaked me the fuck out. I was in my 30's ffs.. Brains are odd things. I mean have you seen one?? Gross!!

VeganStar · 31/07/2024 00:01

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 30/07/2024 21:42

The Images we ‘see’ are the brain interpreting patterns of light.

The brain speeds up at the job by using predictive methods, just like predictive text. Your brain sees what it expects to see, a lot of the time.

It expected to see Granny so you did.

i believe in this as something similar happened to me but it wast a person.
We always had a clock on the wall as we entered the living room.
it had stopped working so we took it down.
A few days later, wondering what the time was, out of habit I looked where the old clock should have been. Well of course it wasn’t there but I swear I saw that clock for a second before it disappeared. Obviously because I expected it to be there my mind played a trick and I saw it there. Weird or what?

IAmTheSockThief · 31/07/2024 00:01

How does that conversation go?

"Hey Granny, DW saw an apparition of you yesterday so just want to check you're alive?"

Could you imagine? 😁

You think that's more likely than you needing to see your GP about your hallucination?

Southend-On-Sea?

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 31/07/2024 00:05

@Runnerinthenight I also saw Father Christmas's leg coming through the door when I was little, like a proper black boot, I knew it was him as he rustled at the end of the bed and then my stocking was full afterwards. I definitely did 'see' him, my family all just smiled at me the next day. I've never quite believed my eyes since then.

If this keeps happening, I would visit the GP. Once a decade, not so much, it's common for you to misperceive or your mind/eyes play tricks on you. I've had night hallucinations for years.

My Grandad was suddenly in my car when we were going to Boulogne. I saw a single magpie fly up, skim across the car and my grandad vanished. I learned later my grandad died at roughly the time the magpie appeared.

Now that is REALLY scary! (Sorry for your loss)

Placemarking. Shamelessly.

Tengreenbottles2 · 31/07/2024 00:14

If the granny is fine, it could be some sort of psychosis. It can start happening with no previous mental health issues . Might be worth seeing your GP.

If granny isn't fine it'll be a one in a billion coincidence so still worth a trip to the GP.

Bluebird987 · 31/07/2024 00:17

Maybe granny was there and they are all gaslighting you.

what?

I wanted to add a new theory to this weird thread 🤣

Why don't you have an update about Grandma a day later? Have you just not bothered to check on her despite starting a thread about it? Pointless really.
