To be really freaked out about seeing someone that wasn’t there??

My partners mum, step-dad, brother and 2 nieces are on holiday at the seaside so to we took our little one for the a day trip to have a beach day with his cousins today.

As we were driving into where they are staying and my partner was packing I said to him ‘I didn’t know your whole family was here’ when I saw his grandma standing next to his mum. He must have assumed that I was talking about his stepdad as he didn’t respond to it in a weird way/ask what I meant.

Then when we were inside I asked where his grandma had gone and where she was sleeping as they only have 2 bedrooms. Well it turns out that she isn’t there and is at home and I couldn’t have seen her because she’s not there??

What on earth happened?? What/who did I see?? Am I crazy now? 🙈

Has anyone cancelled the cheque yet ?

I'm commenting just so I can see how Granny is!

Boring answer in simple terms... it uses too much valuable energy to pay attention, so our brain constantly makes things up based on learned norms.

When I was 9 I thought I saw my nan in the kitchen with my mum.
I said to my mum "I thought I saw Nanny."
My mum said it must be a trick of the light plus my imagination. No one phoned to check she was okay.
She died 27 years later.

😂

When I was little I 'saw' Santa run fast past our kitchen window when it was dark! I was so excited... we were in the arsehole of nowhere, but that was no Santa but a trick of the imagination!!

CactusSammy · 30/07/2024 23:22

Is Granny OK?

Keep a note of any similar things happening or anything else odd, with a view to seeing your GP if it continues.

Are you suggesting the OP may be ill?

Surely it’s far more reasonable to presume that Granny died earlier in the day and her ghost fancied a quick trip to the seaside before heading up to the pearly gates

Lwrenn · 30/07/2024 23:28

Another one invested in how granny is doing.

And despite being the least spiritual human I know, also irrationally spooked by this thread 😂

Foxlover46 · 30/07/2024 23:29

I too am wondering about granny

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/07/2024 23:30

Have you called her?

This 😂😂😂 👏

I’ve had this kind of hallucination of seeing people I know out and about and my mums has had this about me! Just human brains doing their crazy stuff. Though I had a terrible anxiety feeling the day that someone close passed away unexpectedly so I also hope that the granny in this situation is OK.

listmaker1981 · 30/07/2024 23:33

I won't be able to sleep now until I know if Grandma is ok

Treesnbirds · 30/07/2024 23:34

Just another story- my mum (very sceptical) saw my Dad in their flat years ago, thought he was home early from work, but he wasn't there. He was completely fine, arriving home later that evening, she used to say she thought maybe it was because they were really in love? I've no idea.

OP come back 🙄

TeaMistress · 30/07/2024 23:40

Are you OK OP. Not meaning to frighten you but visual hallucinations should be checked out by a doctor. I hope everything is OK and that you are fine but that's sometimes a warning sign of something amiss.

RogueFemale · 30/07/2024 23:40

Your brain invents a lot of the stuff you think you 'see'.

My Grandad was suddenly in my car when we were going to Boulogne. I saw a single magpie fly up, skim across the car and my grandad vanished. I learned later my grandad died at roughly the time the magpie appeared.

A magpie came and perched on a railing just outside mum's kitchen window while I was washing up. I 'knew' it was trying to tell me something and mum died in hospital.
