Home security alarm

I’m wondering if anyone can help me. I’m so confused. Previous homeowners have left their verisure security alarm equipment still attached to the walls etc. obviously doesn’t work and not connected. So maybe I could start there.

we have no security system at present. I’ve asked DH to sort out but he couldn’t care less. I know I sound crazy but I keep checking on my kids every night multiple times as im worried someone will take them! For context we live in London and the area has had many burglaries plus we haven’t even changed any of the locks. It’s a detached house with many possible entry points and it just worries me the previous owners could still have the keys or given a copy to their friends or families. They were very lovely so I know I’m being irrational.

im really confused about what alarm system to get could you please advise me? We have nothing of value my only fear is someone coming in during the night whilst we are sleeping etc.

I’m not mentally well at the moment and everytime I ask DH if he could help me sort out he tells me it’s not his priority. I really think if I could have one night where I am confident the house is secure by having a security system I will sleep better and my mental health would improve,

We’ve lived here 1.5 years now so you can imagine the anxiety has built up

Are you getting support for your mental health? You can call Verisure or other alarm companies and they will come and give you a free quote. It’s not cheap up front and then usually a monthly fee if you want ongoing monitoring. Has there been any trigger for your fears?

@JulyMume

Do NOT contact Verisure, stay well away from them, they are robbing, lying cowboys. No-one who knows and understands Electronic Security would encourage anyone to have anything to do with that shower of shit. Just because they are flooding crappy daytime TV with cringy adverts doesn't make them trustworthy.

Look up a small, local company and check reviews. Give them a call, you'll get a better service and they'll advise you on what you need to do.

Hi there,
First, I want to say that your feelings are completely valid, and it’s understandable to feel anxious about your home security, especially with children to protect. It’s great that you’re taking the initiative to seek help and find a solution.

Given your situation, here are some steps you can take to enhance your home security:

  1. Change the Locks: This is the first and most important step. Changing the locks will ensure that you have complete control over who can enter your home. It’s a relatively inexpensive measure that can provide immediate peace of mind.
  2. Assess the Existing Equipment: If the Verisure equipment is still attached, it might be worth checking if it can be reactivated or if it’s possible to use it as a base for a new system. However, if it’s outdated or not functioning, it may be better to consider a new system.
  3. Consider a Simple Alarm System: Look for user-friendly alarm systems that are easy to install and manage. Brands like Ring, Eufy, and Yale offer systems that can be set up without professional installation. Many of these systems come with mobile apps, allowing you to monitor your home from anywhere.
  4. CCTV Cameras: Adding a few outdoor cameras can help you keep an eye on your property. They can deter potential intruders and provide you with peace of mind. Many options are available that offer remote viewing and alerts.
  5. Smart Doorbell: A smart doorbell can provide an extra layer of security. It allows you to see who is at your door and communicate with them, even when you’re not home.
  6. Lighting: Consider installing motion-activated lights around your property. Well-lit areas can deter intruders and make you feel safer.
  7. Professional Consultation: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it might be helpful to consult with a security expert. At Alert Pro, we offer tailored security solutions and can help you assess your needs and recommend the best options for your home.
Your safety and peace of mind are paramount, and taking these steps can help you feel more secure in your home. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help you find the right security solution for your family. Take care, and remember that you’re not alone in this!
