To blame my health on the pandemic? What IS this?

Been coughing every 5-10 minutes for a week now. Been told it’s viral. Done covid test, negative. I’m 34 and this is the second one this year, never got severe colds before 2020.

my stomach muscles hurt from coughing and I’ve regularly been sick simply from the force of the coughing fits. What the fuck is this?!

Could be any virus. To be honest, I noticed getting ill more frequently since the pandemic and I think it is because we missed out on 3 years worth of exposure to normal levels of viruses and bacteria and our immunity tanked.

May be whooping cough Adult Whooping Cough www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/5100057-adult-whooping-cough

You need the right antibiotic, it's very contagious and antibiotics help restrict passing it on

Listen to the cough online, it's unmistakable. And it lasts a long time, I'm still whooping at night although for shorter periods and less severe, mine started in April

@Defiantlynot41 thanks I had the vaccine when pregnant a year ago though? Would that still protect me?

Possibly, I think the vaccine has a 5-10 year life. I wasn't vaccinated (too old) and missed it in childhood. My husband had it in childhood and didn't get it from me, so protection must be pretty long lived !

The vaccine is given to protect the baby, not you. Could just be any virus or infection, a cough for a week isn’t cause for concern though. Try hot honey and lemon drinks and inhaling steam

Hayfever can mimic a cold, my DS has had a cough for over a month now, enough to leave his dry heaving with the coughing

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/07/2024 16:42

The vaccine does protect you against whooping cough but isn’t effective on everyone.
