Should kids be naked on a public beach

If so, at what age should they put a cossie on?

Interesting answers.

I posted the question while sitting on the beach watching a couple of naked kids running around. They were probably 5/6 a boy and a girl.

I didn't feel comfortable tbh.

What made you uncomfortable?

Why did it make you feel uncomfortable?

Well not really. Remove your eyes from what is making you uncomfortable.

Babyboomtastic · 26/07/2024 12:51

If it was properly deserted then maybe. Otherwise no, but ok for quick changes when they are very little.

NotAlexa · 26/07/2024 12:52

I'm from Europe and it's more hygienic for our kids to run naked. But we only allow it until after the nappy time - we wean them off by 18 months. Afterwards girls are wearing same panties as boys and run around happily. We do have showers on the beaches though, so girls are always washed in their bits after beach time, it's essential for sand not to get trapped between body and the swimsuit as there are loads of mites.

Saunas are naked places, but separated into male/female. But kids are not allowed.

The issue of sexualising kids (or naked adults) is just wrong. if you don't feel comfortable, simply not look.

cratormo · 26/07/2024 12:54

I take lots of photos of my dc on beach days out and it's annoying if a naked child runs into the shot as I won't want to show those photos to anyone else. They wear long sleeve surf suits for sun protection.
Children should be clothed if in a public area, though I do tend to change mine in/out of swimwear on the beach as the toilets are a bit cramped and gross.

bonzaitree · 26/07/2024 12:54

I would say they should never be naked due to cameras being everywhere. One snap and you never know where that picture could end up and what it could be manipulated into. Not fair on the kids who will have no concept of the risks.

it was different in the past where cameras weren't everywhere and it would have been way more obvious if someone dodgy was pointing an old film camera at kids.

That's not a lot to go on. Most men are in fact no paedophiles. Where they doing anything suspicious?

More hygienic for whom?!!

i know, right. So men can be pedos and women can't be? They may have been dads watching their kids play.

And as for cameras - so what. I have tons of childhood pictures with naked kids in the background - it was before digital camera age. They are still in my photo album. No concern. I also have Nirvana album with a naked baby on it. It's a cute baby, but that's just it! Let kids be kids, and run naked. It's more hygienic.

FluentRubyDog · 26/07/2024 12:59

Do all of you make sure your kids get vitamin D supplements? With all the coverage, they won't be getting any the usual way.

Blarn · 26/07/2024 13:00

MiscellaneousSupportHuman · 26/07/2024 12:33

Well as that risk includes the manipulation of fully clothed people, to remove or alter clothing, you’d better not take your DC anywhere!!

I tended to keep bottoms on mine (OK, sand can get anywhere regardless, but this reduced it) but think any type of dress/undress isOK

I know, I try not to think about it. I do have a very relxed parenting style in general! It was someone on here who was in the police or a relative was, can't remember, but they said how waterparks attract peadophiles and so I decided keeping dcs bodies covered in public was the bar I'd set. But it's such a shame that children's lives are being affected by tech companies with no regulation.

I encourage them to wear long sleeves and trousers in the sun but that is because I hate putting sunlotion on! Grin It is harder to convince them to do it now they are not tiny!

Yes as a pair of swim shorts really impacts the amount of vit d they get 😂

Why start a whole thread if you're unwilling to communicate as an adult?

Isn't it obvious I'm talking about full body UV suits?

RoachFish · 26/07/2024 13:10

I'm from Sweden and grew up practically naked in the summers😁I think it's lovely that it's still the same here and that it hasn't changed that much. Because it's so common it's not really a thing. Nobody is looking or paying attention. We all shower naked before we go into the swimming pools too and sit naked in saunas. It's just a different culture and I don't think anyone here thinks about all the pedophiles lurking in the bushes.

thefamous5 · 26/07/2024 13:10

They have to wear something on their bottom half / not because I'm worried about anyone seeing but sand getting in to their bits and making them sore.

I have no issue if someone's kids are naked

YabaJaba · 26/07/2024 13:10

Read my post I said silly answers.

Adults don't respond with silly answers they discuss sensibly.

I'm in the UK and I've seen plenty of naked kids on beaches (and even some adults!) so not sure why this is seen as a strictly European thing, I always thought it was completely normal here

OrwellianTimes · 26/07/2024 13:12

They should be allowed, but every single person on the beach over the age of about 12 has a camera in their pocket these days, so it’s not wise at all. Too easy to get a naked kid in a background if nothing else.
