Window Cleaner

If you have one, how often does he visit?

Mine comes once every 3 months. A member of my family was shocked to hear this, her window cleaner comes once a week. I suspect most people would say somewhere in between. Maybe I will have mine done more often depending upon response.

YANBU - 4 times a year is well enough.

YABU - Once a week is more like it, mucky sod.

Once a week?!?!! How dirty can a window get in 6 days?

Mine comes when I remember to book him, or the windows look vile. Probably every 3-6 months

ShinyNewMe · 25/07/2024 08:31

OK good. Well I might have them done less often then.

Once a month and I'm happy with that.

Pombearprincess · 25/07/2024 08:41

Once a month ish. He turns up, I don’t book him. He explained once that he thinks that’s reasonable. Any more frequently isn’t really necessary in his view, and any longer gaps make it a far harder job but people don’t want to pay extra for the extra time and effort required. Mind you I think mine is very reasonable.

I do my own windows once a year. Having said that, it all depends on where you live. We are in a very quiet area, back door facing footpath, front door facing some garages. No through roads in the immediate vicinity.
Previously, we lived on the coast with the beach at the end of our road. The windows were covered in sand and sea spray about 3 days after washing so we did have someone come once a fortnight.

JMSA · 25/07/2024 08:44

YANBU. They're very expensive here in Edinburgh, and there's no need to have them round more than every few months.

DiscoBeat · 25/07/2024 08:45

Once a fortnight, which is enough for us and for the window cleaner.

IamnotSethRogan · 25/07/2024 08:46

About every 5 weeks is mines cycle. I don't think we can change it, he just does it when he's on my street and he picks the routine. Seems fine 🤷‍♀️

Roselilly36 · 25/07/2024 08:47

Once is week is over the top, unless you live on the coast, when they will need cleaning more regularly. I have my windows cleaned every 6 wks, they really need doing by then.

Cookerhood · 25/07/2024 08:48

Once every 6 weeks, roughly. You can guarantee it will rain the next day. He texts before he comes.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 25/07/2024 08:49

About every 6 or so weeks.

itsnotabouthepasta · 25/07/2024 08:53

My husband is a window cleaner, all his rounds are on either a 4,6 or 8 week basis.

there’s zero need to have it done any quicker than monthly unless you live by a main road while also surrounded by trees or there are a lot of birds nearby.

Itsausername91 · 25/07/2024 09:12

Every 6 weeks in the summer, and 8 weeks in the winter - we live on a busy road and the grime really builds up

FourNeedWeek · 25/07/2024 09:13

Once a month, although it sometimes feels like whenever he wants a couple a quid 😂

Anonym00se · 25/07/2024 09:14

Every couple of months. The days of having them done weekly for a fiver are long gone. Ours is £40 now! It takes two of them about 15 minutes.

SquigglePigs · 25/07/2024 09:32

Ours is every 12 weeks. To be honest I'd prefer 6-8 weeks like it was at our previous house but it used to cost £10-15 and now costs £35 so every 3 months will do.

Mrsjayy · 25/07/2024 09:33

Once a month but he will come earlier or later depending on the weather.

Yeah I think this sometimes 😂 he's self employed and window cleaning is seasonal really so I don't mind as long as he isn't too cheeky, he doesn't charge a lot in comparison to some.

CelesteCunningham · 25/07/2024 09:38

Once a week!

Ours aims to come once a month, but it's dependent on the NI weather so it can take longer at times. Fine by me.

£40. Wait, what, FORTY QUID?
Seriously?

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 25/07/2024 10:31

When I found one, he came once and never again. My windows are disgusting but I cba doing them myself.

So...once every three years?!

Yup. Round here we don’t have an old fashioned guy with a bucket and ladder who does a round. We have to use a commercial cleaning company that come in a van and just do our house. I wouldn’t mind but they don’t even do a proper wash, they just spray them ionised water and leave them to dry naturally. That’s why I only get them out when the windows are filthy!

TheThingIsYeah · 25/07/2024 13:52

@Anonym00se Could you clean them yourself? Or are the window openings too awkward? I still can't get my head around £40.

LadyDanburysHat · 25/07/2024 13:56

Our window cleaner offers monthly or every other month. The other ones locally only offer monthly. Weekly seems insane to me

Mrsjayy · 25/07/2024 14:03

£40 for sterile water they are taking the absolute piss!
