Splashing people in the pool?

bullofred · 24/07/2024 19:03

I saw a video where a woman was posing on some pool steps, she was about knee high in the water and her friend was taking photos.

This man purposely cannonballs into the water and soaks her and she visibly pissed off. All the comments are laughing saying she deserved it, they hate influencers (no evidence she’s an influencer) and that “not all hero’s wear capes”, it’s a public pool and she should expect to get wet.

Aibu to just not find it funny?

The culture affects everyone - it affects the kind of shit my daughters have to be surrounded by as they grow up and live with the shitty value that society places on such a vacuous existence.

So yeah, they can fuck off!

You know what else will affect your daughters? Entitled men.

sunglassesonthetable · 26/07/2024 13:22

I would have laughed it had happened to me.

sunglassesonthetable · 26/07/2024 13:25

They sure will.

But it's a matter of opinion whether this is one.

Maybe you should teach them to consume better then. I am online in various places all day every day and my life isn't impacted by influencers at all.

I use facebook, Instagram, Snap, MN, TikTok, X, YouTube, I have a reddit account. I have a phone. I watch TV, and other than scrolling past something I have no interest in - which isn't often as I don't engage with it, I don't see influencer bollocks at all. I don't watch Love Island or TOWIE or Made or Chelsea or any other vacuous nonsense, so my life isn't affected by vacuous people.

It's pretty simple.

sunglassesonthetable · 26/07/2024 13:33

It's pretty simple.

I think the 100 s of 1000s of followers these people have tells you it's probably not.

But well done Crumpet . Breezy up there?

Laserwho · 26/07/2024 13:46

He more than likely jumped into the pool because the girl was blocking the steps. She was posing for photos. How long was the guy supposed to wait? Pools are for swimming not posing. If she's blocking the way to get into the pool what did she expect to happen?

I find it very weird that if a woman on these boards starts a thread about how a random man tells her in the street to 'cheer up love' or 'smile' other posters are up in arms about the patriarchy and mens entitlement to think they can control a woman's public behaviour/persona.. yet this is fine....hmmm

Well that's because being told to "smile" is the idea women cannot express any emotions which might make men uncomfortable and that smiling "looks better" thus making women objects of beauty and not free thinkers

Whereas this was a man acting to stop a woman being a self obsessed twat, ruining everyone else's enjoyment of the pool

PurpleFlower1983 · 26/07/2024 14:13

I find it more funny that’s she was posing in such a shit pool in the first place.

If it is, he's 100% the dick. He's not 'trying to get in'. He's just a dick trying to humiliate a woman. Wanker.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/07/2024 14:29

The most effective thing for getting rid of an annoying, obstructive internet person in those circumstances is to be visible. Had them at the gym before and it's surprising how quickly they stop monopolising the area once there's a fat, sweaty middleaged woman in the background, as it completely disrupts the perfect, aspirational fat free ambience they're trying to create. If they want a clear shot, they pay to hire the entire place and not intrude upon others.

Where is this from please?! @DoreenonTill8 - promise I won’t pose in it - I just like it !

Pretty Little Thing... remember it's like a Gremlin, don't get it wet!

I do thanks and believe me I do not watch or consume any of that shite.

I am not a teenage girl however and it is very simplistic to say "oh I ignore it so they can too" Teenagers are at an impressionable age and it would be a hell of a lot easier if this kind of shit just wasn't a thing in the first place.

Flumpie59 · 26/07/2024 14:51

It sounds hilarious to me! If you're in a public pool then you KNOW some people will dive in instead of just getting in! Expect to get wet!

Anon4once · 26/07/2024 14:54

I don't find it funny but it's a pool. I hate being splashed at the pool but I accept it, it's a pool!
As the old saying goes- if you can't stick the heat, stay out of the kitchen 😂

Having seen the video, if it's the one, a little feminist analysis.

Men take up space. Patriarchy chicken, using vast quantities of space for golf and football, practically the whole of the internet, man-spreading. Men are very used to taking space and shoving women over.

Influencers and women who aspire to it take up space. They are obvious and out in public space and the internet. That makes men confused and angry. So they have to be taken down a peg. They can't just say, "sorry can I get past" like a normal human. They have to take their space back.

Granted. That's one way of looking at it.

Or when people dangle around the edge of a pool, a charlie chaplin moment is asking to happen when some smart arse is looking on.
Regardless.

I'm a feminist too.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 26/07/2024 15:25

Influencers taking up public space piss everyone off, irrespective of gender

Also, the football comment is why even after the women's team have had such great victories they are still not regarded as well....

Yeah. Feminists are the reason women's football isn't taken seriously.

Yep exactly this.

Cannot believe so many women can't see this for exactly what it is.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/07/2024 15:31

I fucking hate being splashed. I love the water and swimming but having water splashed at me is just not on.

The best way to get in is by diving in though- inching down the steps does no one any favours

So do you think this man did it because he's concerned about the effect of social media and influencers on young women and girls?

Pleased you're amused. Personally I cringe at women desperate to be the cool girl...

Don't be soft I'm not desperate to be anything.

But i think funny things happen around the edge of pools. like this.

Do take the stick out of your ass.
