Neighbours have thrown my fence into my garden and caused damage

Obviously I’m not happy.
we’ve been having work done and converted the garage- extending it at single storey- this bit will now be what replaces the fence that was there (which they have thrown over damaging some pots which are on the other side)

the wooden fence that was the boundry was pushed back onto their property so my my builder could make the wall

AIBU to ask them to reimburse me for the damaged pots? From my POV the only thing I can see is that maybe they were unhappy about the surplus to requirements fence being there for a couple of weeks
?

They might sue because (1) you’ve not followed proper legal process before doing building work on a boundary (2) they can’t sell their house easily because they can’t show a prospective buyer the party wall agreement.

A fallen over fence damaging a pot that you left in their garden is the least of your problems!

My builder is very polite
he asked them and they said they were fine and wanted to ensure that their dogs were safe and they seemed absolutely ok with it

it was a rickety ugly fence now being replaced by a really secure and well built wall. They should be happy their dogs will be most secure now.

Are you crazy! You’ve just said it was your boundary fence that was rickety and ugly, you’re the one that created the situation where their garden was insecure and the you left the rickety ugly fence in their back garden. The builder could have just as easily secured the boundary from your side whilst the building work was being completed. Honestly I think there is something wrong with you to even consider asking the to pay for your plant pots

Personally I would suggest you check whether you owe them any money for damage caused to their property by said fence.
so entitled!

But the work isn’t finished yet!

You have no right to park your fence on their land. You also need a party-wall agreement if you have built to the boundary. Disputes like this can escalate badly.

Yes we are- why do you say that?

Because prospective buyers will want to see a PW agreement. Boundary disputes are never pretty and no-one wants to buy one.
