So I'm hoping some HR gurus or others who have been in a similar position can offer some advice or guidance.
I returned to work after 12 months maternity leave and on return submitted a flexible working request. In my request I asked to go from 5 to 4 days, and stated that I believed I could do my existing role in those 4 days. My boss wrote back agreeing to this request. There was no further discussion regarding the role at this stage.
I did a few KIT days in the lead up to returning and had a meeting with my boss to discuss what I'd be doing and my boss laid out what they wanted me to work on. This was nothing like the role I left. We're taking accountant to system admin/non finance project work basically. Boss explained that they wanted to ensure that I didn't rush back into things, give me time to adjust to new routines etc etc and also to let team settle after going through a stressful system upgrade. This would be for around 6 months to let the dust settle so to speak. I understood and appreciated the thought behind this.... but i have been back three months now, as time has gone on I have stated a number of times that I would like to return to what I did prior to mat leave. I have never had a direct answer either way and keep getting given menial tasks.
I had two direct reports before going off, which no longer report to me. My role was covered internally so it's not like my role doesn't exist now, it does and its no different to before.
When I returned there was no desk for me, my direct dial phone line given away, I've been missed off night out invites etc etc. I must be the only member of office staff within the business with no phone line! It's been a pretty terrible return by all accounts. I know I need to have a conversation with my boss l have been putting everyone else's feelings before my own and that needs to stop.
I just dont know where I stand. I'm kicking myself for not making things more clear /expecting more clarity from the start. Any advice or guidance is much appreciated.
