What book did your toddler children love you reading to them?

My two boys are at the age where they are absolutely loving story time before bed. They are 2 and 4 so a great age to enjoy a good story

We have really exhausted our book collection and I wondered what story you cherished reading your children at this age/they cherished you reading to them?

We have all the classics but I've been surprised when gifted books I would never have bought myself as they gone down so well

I know it is cheeky using AIBU but I wanted to put an order in World of Books tomorrow for the weekend!

So what were your much loved books?

I have a 2.5 year old.
Current favourites include lots that have been mentioned: Mog, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Spot the Dog books, Ten Minutes to Bed (Little Unicorn, Monster, etc.), Oi Frog series, Poppy and Sam (Apple Tree Farm). Sadly she currently has no interest in Each Peach Pear Plum (my childhood favourite).

Ones I don't think have been mentioned:

  • Pop-Up Peekaboo books
  • One Banana, Two Bananas
  • But Not the Hippopotamus by Sandra Boynton
  • Dalmatian in a Digger by Rebecca Elliott
  • A Recipe for Bedtime
  • Supertato by Sue Hendra
  • Hiccups by Holly Sterling
  • Corduroy by Dawn Freeman

Check out the Pig the Pug series by Aaron Blaby.

Australian author and the books are so funny with quite a sweet message too - my girls are the same age as your DC and they absolutely love them.

WildCherryBlossom · 22/07/2024 14:11

Fairly sure all of our fiction books have been mentioned, but all of mine also really liked books about animal life cycles. So baby to adult snake, rabbit, otter, deer whatever!

Smidgers · 22/07/2024 14:34

Velveteen Rabbit
The Amelia Jane collection
The Magic Faraway Tree

I loved Enid Blyton as a child and kept all my books, my children loved them just as much as I did.

Slinky Malinky

Same family as Hairy Mac, but even better. One of the best on so many levels. How many toddler books have a "rapscallion cat"? I rest my case!

100% I like those ones as much as the kids (maybe even slightly more)

Everleigh13 · 22/07/2024 18:30

We recently discovered The Baby Beast by Chris Judge in the library and I love it. DD enjoys it too 😁

Abitlosttoday · 22/07/2024 18:34

All the Pip and Posy books, from about 2-4. Then good for learning to read. They're a bit funny, very gentle.
