Dogs in restaurants

Informal dining and cafes, fine. Pubs, fine. But only if dogs are on the floor and reasonably well behaved (by that I mean not barking all the time).Restaurant not fine. Am I alone in this?
If I am paying to go somewhere specifically to enjoy the food and pay extra for it and want to enjoy a special evening (birthday) why do I have to put up with a dog lying on the floor at the table next to me?. I just don't think this is necessary or acceptable. Am I totally alone in this?

Yes, the non dog people don’t think the world revolves around them at all. Nor do they exaggerate or make up stories to add weight to their flimsy arguments. Rational af. Us dog owners could learn a thing or two for sure.

But they do market as dog friendly or they wouldn't be, dog friendly?

No signs up and nothing on the website either way so no.

But I do know it was evening service in a 'nice' restaurant. I wouldn’t have dreamt of bringing mine to somewhere like that.

If you're an ignorant, selfish and arrogant one, yes.

sunglassesonthetable · 22/07/2024 17:12

So rather than adults think, "that small pool looks a lovely size/depth to sit and relax in, but I'm not going to because that would be unfair on others", they should instead just say "fuck it, the management can come and tell us to get out if they don't like it. I'm allowed so fuck everyone else's enjoyment."

Nope.

Not at all 😂

It would be telling adults to get out of the pool if there was a sign saying " for adult use"

sunglassesonthetable · 22/07/2024 17:14

If a restaurant owner doesn't want you in their premises with a dog - it ain't happening.

And @ChesterDrawz loving all the fuck this and fuck that to give weight to your reasoning. 😂

The comments on this thread just prove what ignorant, selfish and arrogant people some dog owners are.

Which comments?

PixieLaLar · 22/07/2024 18:10

People bringing their well behaved dogs into dog friendly establishments are not selfish or entitled, they are doing nothing wrong.

This is a total YOU problem and if you can’t stand being around dogs in dog friendly places then make sure you pick non dog friendly places, it’s really that simple.

Startingagainandagain · 23/07/2024 09:23

Ultimately if the owners of the restaurant/coffee shop/shop have decided to welcome dogs on their premises, then that is the end of the story.

You then have the choice not to use that particular business but you can't impose your rules on others.

It is up to you to find premises that don't welcome dogs.

Really, it is a complete non issue.

Totally up to the owner of the restaurant. If they want it to be dog friendly then it's totally their choice. No one is forcing anyone to go.

Your abit stuffed though when you have no idea somewhere is dog friendly as no dogs there, you sit down to eat your Sunday roast and someone sits next to with 2 small dogs who she puts in the seats next to her (and you as it's all one long seat) then they go on the tables too)

We just ate quickly and left.

Dogs on floors -tolerable -but not on the chairs and tables surely?

Uiommpourting · 23/07/2024 09:27

Evidence tells us, quite clearly, that you are many times more likely to catch something from another human being, than a dog. Dogs are actually extremely healthy creatures, more so than us. Dog to human transmission of illness, is in fact, extremely rare.

LuckySantangelo35 · 23/07/2024 09:33

Urghhh all those trying to proclaim their dogs are more clean than some humans - just no! They’re not! Just face facts :-) however you wrangle it, they’re just not! And that’s why many people do not want them in pubs, restaurants or their bare dog arses sitting on trains or whatever.

dogs absolutely should not be sitting on seats , ever

Whatever to who's cleaner. If you don't want dogs where you eat that's totally acceptable.

But either don't go there or check first.

@sunglassesonthetable

thing is sooooooo many places allow dogs now! Seeing as dogs are not more important than humans, it should be the other way round - dog friendly pubs/cafes/ restaurants should be the minority!

Rather a dog laid at its owners feet than a group of obnoxious adults talking so loud you can’t hear yourself think.

It’s not one or the other though, is it?

I find it extraordinary how many dog owners just assume that other people are as comfortable with their smelly, manic, slobbering hairy monster as they are. Like you go their house, 2 seconds inside the door and you get the full force of said slobbering hair-mass all over you, and they laughingly mutter "oh, get down Henry" as if to say "all in good fun, eh?"

No it isn't. And no I don't want some filthy animal lying around licking its balls while I tuck into my coq au vin. I can't even understand how it's not against hygene regulations. Noone I know would be OK with seeing rats in a restaurant. Why not? Rats are cleaner animals than dogs.

Or would it make all the difference if it's somebody's pet rat?

Agree with you on dogs in restaurants, but if you go to the dogs home, sorry but put up with or don't go! You are the visitor in their home.

MoodEnhancer · 23/07/2024 09:59

I agree, OP. The thing that really bothers me is that dogs smell bad. I know everyone thinks their dog doesn’t smell but they all do. If I’m out for a meal, it can put me off my food. It’s a shame most places serving food now seem to allow dogs as standard practice.

sunglassesonthetable · 23/07/2024 10:01

" should" is debatable . Money talks. Tell that to the owners of these places.

The actual facts are, you are going to catch things from another human being at some point. Think, Covid, colds, flu, norovirus, herpes, mumps, measles, whooping cough, etc.

Dogs are much healthier than us and dog to human transmission of illness is extremely rare.

MaturingCheeseball · 23/07/2024 10:19

Country pubs struggle to make a living as it is. If they banned dogs they would be left with barely any customers and no income.

There are plenty of restaurants that do not allow dogs - from posh ones to, in fact, Weatherspoons!

I had to laugh when I went in a New Forest pub billed outside as the New Forest’s Most Dog Fridndly Pub, and at the next table were a couple theatrically flinching and cowering and tutting about my very placid snoozing dog. I wouldn’t choose to eat in the Barmy Ballpit if I wanted to avoid kids, so why they were in this pub beats me.

burnoutbabe · 23/07/2024 10:28

My pub with small dogs on the table is zone 3 London. Not a country pub. I'd expect t dogs in the Lake District.

There needs to be a clear sign on websites and on the door -dogs allowed. The absence of this sign on the door should mean dogs are not allowed. Not the customer had to ask if they are dog friendly each time. Most websites may say it ticked away somewhere in the blurb but it could be anywhere!

sunglassesonthetable · 23/07/2024 10:33

Not the customer had to ask if they are dog friendly each time.

Why?

sunglassesonthetable · 23/07/2024 10:34

Vegans & Vegatarians have had to ask for years and years if they can be accommodated.
