justasking111 · 20/07/2024 12:35

Five years in Wales is this the norm in England, Scotland, Ireland?

Our surgery put it up on their FB page this week.

It was three years here last time I checked.

Yabu it's fine no reason to be concerned

Yanbu it's too big a gap.

It. Also. Says. All. Women.
You are massively undermining your claim to be pro women not anti trans with this nonsense.

I find it offensive for someone to change their gender.

TM= a biological woman

TW= a biological man

If anyone thinks they are no longer their biological sex that a government needs to write "people with cervix's" then the word has truly gone mad.

I am pro woman, no woman should have to compete in sports with a biological man that then decides he is a woman, no woman should have to share a prison cell with a man that has committed a sexual offense because he feels like a woman.

I am pro women.

And also anti trans if you find it offensive…
I think gender is rubbish, but we live in the world as it is.

Edit: the words in this invitation have the square root of fuck all to do with sports or prisons.

I am not anti trans, I am anti idiots that think they can change gender.....

Trans people can have their own prison wings, sports categories.

If you think that the wording has nothing to do with sports or prisons then you are just silly or really are blinkered.

Take care.

It literally doesn’t. You can see the benefit of wording like this at the same time as thinking we need sex segregated spaces and sports. I know, because this is my position.
Take care.

Those of us who have been involved in the care and treatment of people who identify as a man who were not called for cervical screening and therefore detected late don't give a shit for all this women are women stuff in healthcare we just see someone who is far sicker than they would have otherwise been if they had been included on the screening list

Genuine question: why were they not on the screening list? Are they automatically taken off if they notify their GP practice that they now identify as a man? And would they actually have gone for a smear test given how deeply they didn't want to be viewed as a woman?

don't give a shit for all this women are women stuff in healthcare

It's not shit. It's the truth and it matters.

It is mentioned as people with a cervix in the invitation letter to have a test.

You don’t speak for ‘all of us’

How many people who identify as a man and who have had a diagnosis of cervical cancer because they weren’t aware of the screening program or the signs and symptoms of cervical cancer have you been involved in the care of?

Specific numbers please if you don’t mind.

justasking111 · 21/07/2024 21:13

I don't want anyone to die of cervical cancer . Nor does the NHS

Okay going forward I'm going to report every off topic trans whatever post

Grow up, OP, with your daft threats to report posters who are engaging with you.

You don't understand the information people are giving you about the cervical screening programme. It not about what you think, it's about the science and new information that informs best practice.

So trans men know they are women, excellent point well made.

So no need for the wording.

Take care!

It's not shit. It's the truth and it matters.

The NHS chose to classify patients by gender, not sex. So at least in the past, yes, males who registered themselves as women would get invites to cervical smears, and females who registered themselves as men would not get them.

It's possible they've updated this since, as it's obviously absurd to register someone according to gender identity rather than sex when it comes to medical issues.

'Changing your gender marker on your NHS records to male or female
You can do this at any time, by completing a change of details form and you do not have to have undergone any form of gender reassignment treatment. You must be aware that changing your gender will mean you will be allocated a new NHS number, and your pre-exisiting NHS number will no longer be accessible or be reversible.
Your new medical record will be completely blank, with none of your previous medical history, COVID vaccinations, medication etc. saved onto it.
If you use the NHS App you will need to set this up again in your new NHS identity.
If, having received a new medical record in a new gender identity, you decide to return to your previous gender identity, you will not be able to go back to your original NHS number. You will be issued with another new medical record and new NHS number.
...
Cancer screening tests
Unfortunately, currently national cancer screening test invitations are sent out based on the gender marker on your NHS records. This system is currently binary and only accepts a male or female gender marker on NHS medical notes. This is a national decision and out of our hands. If you wish to choose non-binary or another gender identity, we can add an alert to your notes, so we as a Practice know your gender identity.'

Seems to still be the case, unfortunately.

Sorry, missed off a sentence:

'Importantly patients who have changed their gender marker on their NHS records may not be invited to some of these cancer screenings, meaning there is a risk of missing cancer.

TheKeatingFive · 21/07/2024 21:37

You can see the benefit of wording like this at the same time as thinking we need sex segregated spaces and sports.

I respectfully disagree with this.

All of this starts with a lie. That somehow men can 'really be' women and vice versa. And the problem with lies is that they beget more lies to keep them afloat. So we tell women they're 'really men'. Then we have to start pretending that that people who aren't women can get cervical cancer. More lying.

Enough. We are far better served with clear language and respect for scientific facts.

Then, any arguments for men infiltrating women's spaces melt away.

This is quite obviously a crazy situation to have created.

Who's being excluded exactly? Any literature will invite all biological women to attend a smear test, a medical procedure that has everything to do with biology and precisely F All to do with ideology.

The fact some people put feelings before facts is, frankly, neither here nor there.

What could have been a useful thread about an important medical procedure HAS become about language purely because 'people with cervixes' was mentioned in the OP and women are getting sick of it.

I'll say it again: if OP had only said 'women' we would ONLY be talking about smear tests.

The people that @Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot and @ArabellaScott mentioned were excluded. With devastating consequences.
I’m pleased the NHS is addressing this issue and hope that all people who need it are encouraged to seek medical services they’re entitled to.

Will not be engaging with any further replies on this, the OP and Mumsnet have both asked not to have the wording discussed any further.

ArabellaScott · 21/07/2024 22:11

The NHS records have the ability to record both sex and gender identity. They could solve the issue instantly and very easily by using both fields for people who choose to identify as whatever they wish, while still basing treatment on biological sex.

Mind you, if they're completely wiping the records of people changing gender, this will be setting up unimaginable issues down the line that will cause missed screening to pale into insignificance. No records of medical history? Batshit. Absolutely batshit.

ArabellaScott · 21/07/2024 22:20

I'd imagine a letter sent direct to female patients would be far more effective than a random poster stuck on a wall that people may or may not see. But here we are.

How many people? And what were the devastating consequences? Where are you getting this information from?

Ladymuck2022 · 21/07/2024 23:27

3 years in England when last cleared from hpv only earlier 2024.
The next lot of nhs profoganda on smears is headed for the bin.

Not just how insecure or insignificant the nhs thought to wake me from a ga telling me no fibroid existed 4th March but to then read the hysteroscopy findings to know how close to the change of life I was but it was argh let’s not do anything. In immense discomfort for 18 months as smoke blown up my backside by professionals who should have known better.

Took 18 months to get any honesty (two smears going on in that time) and it wasn’t coming from a gynaecologist/s who wanted to dress up don’t worry about the change until 50+. Thankfully I approached the hospital for direct access to their portal. Not sure I trust the nhs. I’m sure they are paid handsomely for every
coil they stick into someone whether appropriate or not. If they changed it to having a smear many years plus that’s only due to the competency of gynae I’m sure.

Noooo... let's get it right: those people will have excluded themselves from a biological procedure because of their ideological belief. Please stop conflating the two.

Exactly. Prioritising gender identity over actual sex makes zero sense when it comes to medical matters. But this has been driven by trans demands. Ultimately the medical profession needs to stand up for sanity and what's important for medical care.
