To ask for a national campaign to stop adults referring to their "tummy"

OptimismvsRealism · 19/07/2024 09:33

Still absolutely fine to talk to children about tummies

But adults need to know that it is never ever ever ever ever ok to say "my tummy hurts"

Ever, ok?

I'd really like it the Daily Mail could pick this up please

It's better than "belly" though

FinalCeleryScheme · 19/07/2024 09:39

So true. I only refer to my ventriculus.

Though, TBF, sometimes ‘gastrointestinal tract’ fits the bill.

KimberleyClark · 19/07/2024 09:40

Abdomen

DilemmaDelilah · 19/07/2024 09:42

Anything is better than belly

Reallybadidea · 19/07/2024 09:44

Hmm not sure. "Guts" is appalling.

Hoppinggreen · 19/07/2024 09:45

Sign me up - as long as we can ban "Belly" at the same time

TigathaChristie · 19/07/2024 09:48

No absolutely not. I have a tummy. Sometimes I have tummy ache. 😄

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/07/2024 09:50

TUMMY! Tummytummytummy.

ShipshapeShore · 19/07/2024 09:50

I hate the word stomach.

GreenLightgerkin · 19/07/2024 09:51

Tummy/Belly whatever OP

Itiswhysofew · 19/07/2024 09:53

What do you suggest we call it?

I don't like belly, definitely not stomach and gut is gross.

OptimismvsRealism · 19/07/2024 09:54

The tummy does not exist unless you are under 12

Uiommpourting · 19/07/2024 09:54

Gosh I didn’t know there are actual tummy police on Mumsnet! Who knew?

OptimismvsRealism · 19/07/2024 09:56

I like to think of it more as the weird babytalk police.

TigathaChristie · 19/07/2024 09:56

Oh @OptimismvsRealism - so is it's disappearance related to puberty?

Mrsjayy · 19/07/2024 09:56

Reallybadidea · 19/07/2024 09:39

It's better than "belly" though

It is; that word gives me the heebie geebies! Although I never say tummy always stomach.

TangoTarantella · 19/07/2024 09:57

Happy to oblige OP if you can offer an acceptable alternative

Cleavagecleavagecleavage · 19/07/2024 09:57

It’s the polite word…belly is hideous. Stomach is often inaccurate. Do you want us to say abdomen instead?

Mrsjayy · 19/07/2024 09:58

What's wrong with stomach ? I have a stomach ache is perfectly fine.

AzureAnt · 19/07/2024 09:58

They need to tell the truth and announce that they need to take a massive dump 🤣🤣

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 19/07/2024 09:59

Reallybadidea · 19/07/2024 09:39

100%. Belly just sounds awful.

OptimismvsRealism · 19/07/2024 09:59

A tummy ache is just meaningless as well. What do you mean, woman?

Tummy isn't accurate either! I .might have a deeper issue with tummy than I thought 😂

FuzzyWuzzyWuzABear · 19/07/2024 10:00

YANBU and can we also campaign to stop grown adults calling their own parents mummy and daddy? << shudders >>

Although I'm too lazy to start my own campaign, so I'll probably slip it into the small print of yours.
