To think if I need a body guard, I want a man

Just from the footage of Trump's near assassination. Just made me think, if need a body guard, whose job it is to take a bullet for me, I want that bodyguard to be really, really big, so that his body is way bigger than mine, so it covers mine. Also seen other footage of bodyguards protecting people in a mob, and they only got their charge out because they were just so physically massive, they could force their way through.

Its a job where physical size and bulk matter. I'd just want a man, an unusually big and strong man, to do it.

Personally I would want the best person for the job mentally and physically.

I wouldn't give a damn if they are male, female, black, white or green, straight or gay or pansexual, catholic or Zoroastrian - I really really wouldn't care.

And yet who is he leaning on? Oh look, it's a woman.

What a desperately daft 'argument'.

Which would almost certainly be a man if you want to be surrounded by people to cover your body from a shooter or push you through a mob.

It matters if you need to be surrounded and hidden from sight from a shooter, or need someone's bulk to push through a mob. I am sure there are other aspects of security detail women and men can do equally. But those two are not them.

You're deliberately ignoring my arguments so this is the last post I'm going to make.

Just because men's average bulk is greater than women's doesn't mean to say there are no women with the required bulk. But you wish to bar them from the role because they are women.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 18/07/2024 11:39

Are you an Amazon OP? Unless you're unusually large yourself why do you need an enormous man to cover you, wouldn't a woman who's a bit taller and wider than you do the trick?

righttools · 18/07/2024 11:39

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/07/2024 11:33

No you weren't saying that. You weren't saying these particular women didn't fit the role, you were saying no women would - you want a man.

Well, I guess its making the point that that security agency were pretending that being a man or a woman made no difference to the role or what function you were given, when it clearly did. Most of the job, being a man or woman makes no difference, but in that particular role it did. And it should have been the physically big people, that's the men, who were put in place to do it.

Did you start this thread as thinly veiled attempt to get a froth going about trans people OP? Because that’s what it seems like.

No, it doesn't Hmm

Rowlinginthedeepanddeeper · 18/07/2024 11:39

If the sole purpose of a bodyguard was to physically obstruct bullets, then your hypothesis would imply that only the largest and most corpulent individuals should be employed as bodyguards. However, this constitutes a minuscule aspect of the role. In the practical world (as opposed to a right-wing misogynistic, magical-thinking realm), the abilities that many women and smaller men bring to the profession are considerably more consequential.

Floating101 · 18/07/2024 11:41

If they were an exceptionally big woman, I would not have a problem, no.

But there aren't many like that, and that isn't what happened. I would not want to hire, or be given, a security detail where the company providing it felt they needed to pretend both men and women could do that particular part of the job equally, and that is clearly what Trump's security providers felt they had to pretend.

I don't know, women are larger now than they've even been with the average being a size 16!

Justlovedogs · 18/07/2024 11:43

Male or female, physically bigger than you would be a good idea, I think OP.

@keylimedog @TheHorneSection you both need to get together and write a Mills & Boon, I think 😃

righttools · 18/07/2024 11:13

The other failings are irrelevant to the fact that when the charge needed a body shield, some of those shields were physically smaller than him.

When I saw the pictures of the bodyguards around Trump I thought it was crazy the small blond lady was one of them. That's absolutely bonkers. She is way shorter than Trump. Trump is way stronger than her. If it were all big hefty males I don't believe Trump would have been able to get his head and fists out. The bodyguards need to physically contain Trump, who was an idiot, and they need to physically shield him.

I suspect the female was there as part of the Diversity/Equity stuff. Safety should trump that, pardon the pun.

ISpyNoPlumPie · 18/07/2024 11:43

Oh how tiresome @righttools.

You know, I think you’d get on well with my MIL.

“Men and women, they’re equal but different”, “how different?”, “well, physically”, “ok, carry on”, “stronger, and bigger”, “that’s not invariably true, there is more intrasex variation than intersex variation, but sure…anything else?”, “they just think differently, don’t they?”, “oh…we’re here are we, that didn’t last long”.

I've said repeatedly throughout this thread that I am only talking about the bits of the job where bulk and size matter. You can do See All of my posts if you like.

I’d want someone with good aim and fast reactions - and someone with…fighting skills I guess you’d call them.

FatmanandKnobbin · 18/07/2024 11:07

Nah, I would rather have a woman.

Men are too emotional and irrational.

The fact all the female celebs hire men doesn't give you pause for thought?

He also wasn't a bodyguard. Just like Marilyn Monroe was not actually thick.

Realistically more men than women will fit that description, yes.

Seriously? You are that challenged in thinking?

TooTiredOfThisShit · 18/07/2024 11:47
  1. you're drawing a totally false equivalence. Saying that "women who fit the brief are capable of doing the job" is not the same as saying "there are no physical differences between men and women" . I can see why there would very possibly be more men in that team, but I don't see that an all-male team would be optimum.

  2. in a scenario where you're lying on the floor with multiple guards lying on top of you, you wouldn't want them all to be +250lbs!

  3. modern bullets will go through two people easily anyway.
