How do you separate laundry?

So.. need some honest opinions here. I posted a comment on a previous thread mentioning that washing tea towels together with knickers is gross IMO. Received quite a few comments telling me I'm uptight and bizarre. I honestly think that even if you wash them at 90 degrees, you still shouldn't mix tea towels and underwear. Am I in minority then thinking this? Genuinely curious.

Light
Dark
Towels

fishonabicycle · 12/07/2024 19:58

So weird. The washing machine washes stuff, so whatever it is comes out clean. Regardless of what it is.

Olika · 12/07/2024 19:59

All clothes together
Towels and bedclothes together

justasking111 · 12/07/2024 19:59

Darks including underwear tea towels at 60c as good housekeeping advised.

Whites at 40c sometimes a pre wash with oxygen bleach at 30c

Towels, bedding, at 60c.

No

OMGitsnotgood · 12/07/2024 20:00

No it’s disgusting to wash underwear with cloth you wipe plates with.

The clue is it the word 'wash'.

I've been washing tea towels with underwear foe over 3 decades, as my Mum did prior. No ill effects, ever.

Plantlady10 · 12/07/2024 20:00

I'll put tea towels in the nappy wash. It all comes out clean in the end

IncompleteSenten · 12/07/2024 20:01

Whites, lights and darks, wools, delicates.

motleymop · 12/07/2024 20:02

Whites. Blues and greys. Blacks. Pinks and yellows (girls in the house!). All separated and at 40°
Towels on 60°
Tea towels and cleaning cloths at 60°
We have so much washing I separate it out like this.

UpUpUpU · 12/07/2024 20:02

Clean and dirty! 😂

I just throw in whatever needs doing. Life is too short for farting around with laundry.

IncompleteSenten · 12/07/2024 20:03

I have to ask how dirty are people's pants that they need a boil wash, a flame thrower and a priest?
What the fuck's up with your undercarriage? See a doctor. 😁

But people are mingers. I can be in the supermarket and see people who look perfectly nice and ordinary - but they clearly don’t wash or dry their clothes properly and they’ve gone nose blind - as they stink. Low temps, non-bio… it all keeps the bacteria hanging about and thriving.

Keep separating op. The dirty fuckers will say ‘no one died’ but yeah, that’s a low bar.

Some people would call you a dirty fucker for using your tea towel to dry your plates.

I don't think you are btw, but I don't think people who wash their underwear with other items are dirty fuckers either.

Cas112 · 12/07/2024 20:03

Everything together, I just separate by colour so whites, colours, darks

DappledThings · 12/07/2024 20:03

Both should come out the washer clean and hygienic whether washed together or separate otherwise I would be looking at replacing my washing machine.

Exactly. Do all these obsessive separators think something magical happens to their pants is washed separately that doesn't happen if they are in with tea towels?

I trust my washing machine to wash what goes into it. Makes no difference separation stuff

gano · 12/07/2024 20:04

Each week I do:

Whites inc. teatowels and white undies - 40 degree wash
Darks/colours - 30 degree wash
Towels - 60 degree wash
Bedding - 60 degree wash

Moonlightdancing · 12/07/2024 20:05

Tea towels and underwear should be in a 60 degree wash, according to guidelines. Not my own, to clarify.

By that logic isn’t it just as weird to wash pants with normal clothes that touch other things/ people out and about?

EveryOtherNameTaken · 12/07/2024 20:10

Separate whites and deep colours.

Chuck everything else in together.

Bignanna · 12/07/2024 20:10

StSwithinsDay · 12/07/2024 19:34

I wash everything together. Knickers, tea towels, t-shirts, jeans ....At 40 degrees.
Nobody has died yet.

Yuk!

I mean, so many unkind comments here, for a simple question. You can just answer if you wish, there is no need to mock, make fun or treat people this way. I feel some of the people here get off on belittling others,.from behind the keyboard. My washing machine is fine, my undercarriage is fine as well (that was such a strange comment?). I was genuinely curious what people do.

My clothes aren't particularly dirty but if you did a manual job then perhaps they might need washing at higher temperatures but I honestly think modern detergents do a good job as they are designed for lower temperatures.

No. If you would go to a restaurant and the napkins at your table would be washed with the kitchen staff underwear at 40 degrees, it wouldn't bother you?

To be fair your "I thought that was just common sense" came across as sneezy and passive aggressive so pot, kettle really.

IncompleteSenten · 12/07/2024 20:12

Oh give over. It was clearly a joke.
You can read the words flame thrower and priest and not understand it's a joke?

Not in the least. I wouldn't think that was noteworthy at all.

I would.
I'd want to know why the kitchen staff were washing their pants at work.
I'd find that very odd. 😁
