How do you separate laundry?

So.. need some honest opinions here. I posted a comment on a previous thread mentioning that washing tea towels together with knickers is gross IMO. Received quite a few comments telling me I'm uptight and bizarre. I honestly think that even if you wash them at 90 degrees, you still shouldn't mix tea towels and underwear. Am I in minority then thinking this? Genuinely curious.

I'm patient. I don't do small washes. I do each set of colours when there's a washload. Towels help as I've got a few different colours to bulk up the load.

Sherwil16 · 14/07/2024 06:33

Sorry, that should have said in response to YellowphantGrey re laundry sort

Mystro202 · 14/07/2024 08:03

You're like a child, you keep asking the same thing over and over. We've answered, do you think if you keep asking you'll get a different answer or something? You do you, keep washing your tea towels in poo 🤣

Because your answers are hilarious. You happily walk round in clothes covered in poo but your tea towels are sacred. That's pretty funny.

Mystro202 · 14/07/2024 08:13

At least I'm not eating poo particles like you 🤣

I mean I'm not either cos my washing machine works but try not to start worrying about how when you touch your clothes you're picking up those pesky poo particles and transferring them to your hands and to your food or toothbrush or other people.

Makes about much sense as worrying about tea towels

TimetoPour · 14/07/2024 08:25

Whites
Colours
Darks
Bedding
Bath Towels & Flannels
Dog bed & dog towels

Unless we have had a party and used all the dishcloths, towels and table cloths, tea towels are white so go in the white wash (60 + dose of oxy) with white knickers- the horror! I’d never have enough to make a full
load and don’t want wet towels hanging around for a week.

Catsmere · 14/07/2024 09:00

My goodness, the paranoia about poo particles is getting worse and worse! How do these people cope with walking around in public or using public toilets? (Don't anyone mention the peanuts one gets in pubs and what might be on them, blokes not being noted for washing their hands after a pee.)

whyamisotiredallthetime · 14/07/2024 10:42

I'm just glad no one here can see what I use to wipe the dog slobber off his chops

GinAndBeerIt · 14/07/2024 11:17

Bedding goes in alone on a 60 wash.
Tea towels go in with bath/hand towels and face flannels at 60.
Whites go in alone at 60.
Coloureds go in at 40.

Humour me, come on and answer the following question.

Tea towels washed on 60 alone is acceptable as it kills the bacteria.

Pants and pjs washed on 60 together acceptable as it kills the bacteria.

Combine those two washed and suddenly bacteria isn't killed.

Why?

You've not answered this. The only "answers" I've had are

Because of the poo particals. You haven't actually explained why they don't get killed when tea towels are added to the wash.

You then go onto to say that wee and poo are sloshing around the machine

You've not answered why the wee and poo suddenly don't get washed because a tea towel is added.

You know deep down you can't answer because your wrong. 60 degrees with kill bacteria regardless of what is being washed.

Just admit it's personal preference and fuck all to do with science.

Maybe she poos in the washing machine? It's the only logical explanation I can think of.

Greenlittecat · 14/07/2024 12:44

I bung everything in with a colour catcher and hope for the best!

Mystro202 · 14/07/2024 12:44

Oh bore off and stop taking offence. Wash whatever way you like, I won't be doing it though. No matter what you think the 60 degree wash isn't going to kill off all the germs. And I don't like the thought of my tea towels in with underwear.
Full stop. Nothing wrong with my washing machine , it cleans clothes fine but it doesn't have some magical antibacterial cleaning agent in it!!! Just keep doing that if it makes you happy! I will continue to separate my tea towels from everything else and don't need to explain why to you lot of muckers lol

The bedding I’ve just put in specifies 30 degree wash max. Modern washing powder is designed to clean at low temps - going higher may actually make it less effective.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 14/07/2024 13:10

I don't. I just grab a pile a washing and shove it in the washing machine

Borborygmus · 14/07/2024 13:35

Having washed pants and tea towels together at 40ºC for more years than I care to remember, it's a miracle I've survived.

If you think bacteria and poo particles survive a 60° wash do you have a separate washing machine for just your tea towels?

Otherwise, your tea towels are still swishing around in the bacteria and poo particles left behind from the load containing your knickers.

Your answers don't make sense.

I do bedding at 30 if no towels in with it but 30 doesn't work on my towels unless it's a hot sunny day. Something needs to kill the bacteria or they smell after a day or two.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/07/2024 13:43

Bedding and bath towels have separate washes just due to the amount
All clothes, underwear and tea towels go on a 30 or 40
Bras are separate as they need to be done on the hand wash cycle

Gingernaut · 14/07/2024 13:46

Whites
Reds
Greens
Blues
Greys
Blacks
Delicates

Most washed at 30C or 20C

I am a sucker for a gimmick and use a variety of different water softener tablets, detergents, stain removers and disinfectants in every wash

Yeah, it's really not other posters who are coming off as taking offence when you're this angry and defensive. We're amused. You seem to be offended. By all means keep enjoying your illogically sorted laundry!

Mystro202 · 14/07/2024 14:08

Well I actually wash my tea towels by hand so no sorting needed for me 😆 I'm not getting annoyed at all, it's none of my business what you do. I'm just frustrated at being asked the same question over and over when it has been answered numerous time. You keep doing you and I'll do me.

So if 60 degrees doesn't kill bacteria (according to you) why are you washing your tea towels at 60? And your pants? Why not 90 degrees?

Dettol wash is the magical antibacterial cleaning aid you need to pop in your wash. Kills bacteria starting at 40 degrees and suitable for clothes/towels etc.

I've thoroughly enjoyed being told I'm grubby by someone who can't wash their own clothes and tea towels properly 😂 and I'd hazard a guess you've eaten or drank at someone's home who bungs their tea towels in their clothes wash
