To wonder what is wrong with people who don't really drink

No - not alcohol

Just liquid

People who can sit down to a meal without so much as a glass of water

People who invite guests to stay but have nothing to offer them to drink oh and you'd have to boil the tapwater haha

I can't sleep from thinking about this

We have all been conned by the bottled water industry

CheeseWisely · 12/07/2024 08:10

My biggest bugbear is people who insist they can't drink good quality tap water, and expect bought bottled water - which especially if contained in plastic is generally worse quality than the tap water where I live.

The tap water in our area is good, very good compared to some (it was AWFUL in my hometown) yet I know a couple, vocally always struggling for money, who get through dozens of litres of Evian a week. It has to be Evian, Asda branded bottled water won't do. Absolute madness 🙄

8 glasses isn't nonsense, it's to make it easier for people to get enough fluid.
There must be some seriously crispy people here .

My DP were the same , drank about 4 coffees a day and constant headaches, constipation and utis plus moody

I always have a bottle of water on the go , filled from the tap.
All the sneery " baby dummy" people?
Have a drink,it might improve your mood

That was you, not everyone who isn’t drinking 8 glasses of water is getting headaches, UTIs or is constipated

AcademicsAgain · 12/07/2024 08:11

I love my tap water but goodness some people need to drink it all day. My teen is attached to a huge bottle and cannot believe that in my day, nobody had a water bottle at school. We waited for breaks and lunchtime.

The reason I can't sleep is that I'm currently a guest at a no beverages household.

I saw this coming and managed to sneak one can on diet coke into my handbag on the way here but I need to make it count. Unsure when best to drink it to minimise risk of death by dehydration.

My head hurts so much. I'd have had a big iced water by now.

The suggestion that you're dying of thirst and think diet coke is a better way to hydrate than boiled water makes you look ridiculous and invalidates pretty much everything else tbh! Diet or any coke is a sweet basically - boiling a big pan of water (do three liters) each evening, letting it cool and putting some in the fridge in glass bottles, or any other food safe lidded container and using some to make ice, would be an excellent option as you're staying several days with family.

Nobody needs to buy cola and fruit juice to stay hydrated - both are basically in the same category as desert (nice treats but by no means necessary nor a good idea to consume more than a few times a week).

Edingril · 12/07/2024 08:11

Maybe it's liquid keeping you awake instead, you have insomnia over people drinking habits really?

Saracen · 12/07/2024 08:12

OrangeSlices998 · 12/07/2024 08:02

Whoever you’re staying with is either family or a good enough friend for you to visit and stay over so just be honest, you need a drink! Just tell them you’re thirsty and go to the shop and buy some bottled water to keep in the fridge. You’re being very melodramatic!

I too am baffled about how you've found yourself in this situation. You knew they don't have drinks on hand to offer you and that you don't like their well water. Why didn't you bring plenty of drinks with you?

If I knew my hosts didn't put the heating on as high as I'd like, I would have brought a jumper.

It's not me, no

I drink plenty of water

I can't bring a week's worth of drinks can I, that would look insane.

I assumed the tapwater would be drinkable.

People are different. DH drinks very little whereas I have glasses of water and yes, that includes a Stanley cup or 3 dotted about the house at any one time.

Cups dotted about the house? Sod that!

When I'm in the house, I attach the garden hose with a rudimentary fastening to my belt and that way I am assured of a bountiful supply of fresh water (albeit slightly rubbery flavoured).

I have had to remove ornaments etc. from around our home as my 'tail' often swept them off side tables and so on.
Oh, mind you it's certainly put the willies up the cat, who thinks the hose is a snake!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 12/07/2024 08:13

Go to a shop today, buy a few bottles of water, problem solved.

i dont need a drink when i eat

i wonder what is wrong with those that do need a drink to help their food go down

Neither do I. I might have a drink before and I'll have a drink after but not while I am eating. If you need water to 'wash it down' I think you are not producing enough saliva. That should be enough.

No. We haven't. Hydration is necessary for human thriving. And for guests that aren't furious.

Yes exactly. Nuts. I work in a publicly funded setting where budget is a constant issue but bottled water is bought in bulk every week. Madness yet the two of us who regularly suggest drinking tap water (which is tested with the results published online and is excellent quality) are basically told we're weird and things aren't so dire everyone has to drink fresh water which hasn't been stored in a plastic bottle for several months 🤔

AcademicsAgain · 12/07/2024 08:15

OptimismvsRealism · 12/07/2024 08:01

I am very thirsty but lukewarm unclean be water will not satisfy my thirst

I need access to drinking water. That’s just bizarre.

If you are thirsty you need to prioritise yourself and stock up on bottled water asap. Whatever the consequences. It’s a basic need to be hydrated.

I would feel quite panicky if I could not have anything to drink at all. This isn’t a thread about a range of drinks. It’s about having water to survive!

Naminyolk · 12/07/2024 08:15

Do they drink the tap water OP or bottled? I don't understand how they literally never ever consume water.

Lostworlds · 12/07/2024 08:15

Can you suggest going to the shop as you’d like to buy a few things and then buy some drinks?

If I was a guest at someone’s house I would be buying food so I wasn’t eating all of theirs and would offer to cook one night so you could do that.

Gingerdancedbackwards · 12/07/2024 08:16

OptimismvsRealism · 12/07/2024 07:58

I don't think there are any standards for this well. It'll be full of chemicals. And boiling won't fix that.

You don't have a clue do you? You're making things up to add drama to your situation

Mammma91 · 12/07/2024 08:16

I often don’t have a drink with a meal because it fills me up. Ds age 5 does. I always have a drink after!

Brefugee · 12/07/2024 08:17

i am sick of the drink police questioning that i don't constantly drink water. People who are constantly tipping h2o down their throats keep me awake at night.

LaMarschallin · 12/07/2024 08:18

@OptimismvsRealism

I assumed the tapwater would be drinkable.

But it is if it's boiled, apparently.
Why can't you boil a few kettles-full in advance and keep it in the fridge so it's not lukewarm?
Or are you not drinking the tap water because "chemicals" (you said "It'll be full of chemicals.")?

AuntieDolly · 12/07/2024 08:18

I think you're acting a bit helpless. No one is going to think you're mad if you say I need to buy some drinks and ice

thebluebeyond · 12/07/2024 08:18

Pinkstanley · 12/07/2024 07:23

eugh - you know you introduce bacteria into the water from the first sip, and that the bacteria population is likely to be doubling every 30 minutes or so after that?
