Vinted seller getting stroppy

MochaMad · 11/07/2024 21:30

5 Vinted parcels were left on my doorstep by Yodel today. I was out all day and by the time I got home the parcels were not there. I have a photo in the tracking for each item of the pile of parcels and it’s marked as ‘left in a safe place: front porch’… I have no porch. They have done this before and the parcels didn’t disappear, but I complained. I have contacted Yodel and they told me to claim via Vinted and they will refund me. Yodel apologised and said the driver was at fault.

The AIBU element of this is that one of the five sellers is getting stroppy with me because I marked her parcel as not arrived. She’s wanting me to report to the police and claim from Yodel and clearly cross with me because the item (£6 hand cream) is now ‘suspended’.

She seems to think Vinted won’t compensate because Yodel have a photo of a pile of parcels on my doorstep.

So far no response from Vinted.

You need the yodel app. It tells you when they're coming and gives you the option to change date or sage place/neighbour etc.

They don't usually refund the buyer if it shows as delivered in my experience on the vinted rant Facebook groups.

It did arrive. You’ve been unfair.

Yes, OP will have got a message and/or should have checked tracking and will have known they were coming today. It’s on her to organise redelivery

CatchHimDerry · 11/07/2024 22:10

@MistyGreenAndBlue @Dinosweetpea actually neither is the client, Vinted is.
Seller didn't hire courier, Vinted does. Contract is with them.
Seller simply receives a label or QR code from Vinted and sends item.
no money changes hands etc.
If Seller tries to contact shipping provider, they’ll be referred back to Vinted

Both seller and buyer have to take it up with Vinted.

I see it both ways. Seller thinks OP is onto a scam, OP hasn’t got item and didn’t ask for it to be left on doorstep and possibly pinched

Amazon does this all the time, fully dumps things on my front step in full view of the world

Ah ok. I dont use Vinted so I assumed it was like eBay or etsy.
Even so, the seller is wrong to say OP should claim from Yodel.
Clearly OP is doing the right thing here in letting Vinted sort it out.

@Dinosweetpea yup I know - and she’s clearly misunderstood the process. She wants me to mark it as received (because there’s a photo of the parcels on my doorstep) to release her money and then me claim from Yodel outside of Vinted. If I do that then I’ll get no compensation via Vinted. I have explained all of this and sent her screen shots of the Vinted help screens and yet she’s still complaining at me.

Don't get your hopes up. I bought a few items on Vinted via Yodel recently and 3 of them were supposedly delivered on the same day (to a secure area that couriers can access). But Yodel only delivered 2 of the 3. I suspect the Yodel person forgot one of them and marked all 3 as delivered (the photo was a generic photo of our mailroom rather than of my Yodel parcel).

I raised it to the seller. Who ignored me completely. So I raised it to Vinted. I had to fill in a claim form and sign that I hadn't received the item and sent it back to Vinted (within 48 hours or they cancel the claim). They replied a few days later saying that Yodel said my parcel HAD been delivered (it bloody hasn't!!) and they had released my payment to the seller. So I lost all the money and ended up with nothing. Vinted ignored my complaint completely. So I left the seller 1 star feedback saying my item never arrived. Seller then left me a nasty 1 star review back - and I responded to it saying (my item never arrived, you completely ignored me, didn't contact Yodel yet kept all my money). It was an unpleasant experience and has put me off buying anything on Vinted - and I certainly won't if the seller uses Yodel.

TheNestedIf · 12/07/2024 03:39

If you gave permission for the parcels to be left anywhere other than with you, that will be your problem, unfortunately, as you accepted the risk. If you didn't, it's up to Vinted / the seller to make right according to the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Find out what evidence your bank would require for a chargeback and get them to deal with the problem if you didn't accept the risk and Vinted won't help you. I had exactly this problem with Ebay and one of their sellers when a parcel was dumped on the doorstep in full view of the road rather than handed to me or left in my secure postbox (which the courier had captured in the delivery photo!). Ebay refused to refund me. My bank recovered the money anyway. These companies try it on and think you'll be ignorant enough of consumer law to let them get away with it. If you didn't accept the risk, don't.

She doesn't know that. Someone took a photo of parcels on her door step. That proves nothing . The driver could have kept them.

We had yodel put a parcel in the recycling bin when the bin was out! By the time we got home it had gone. We got a replacement item. We have a back garden where it could have been left out of sight.

MrHarleyQuin · 12/07/2024 05:46

I agree that the delivery was poor and Vinted should sort it out. But practically, why be out all day when you have deliveries coming? Have them delivered to a shop or locker instead.

Alifemadelessordinary · 12/07/2024 05:50

It is what it is. At least you've kept her informed, you're both covered by Vinted's protection.

I sold a £280 Mulberry bag. It was marked as delivered then the transaction suspended. I spent a good day and a half worrying before the buyer told me it had gone missing.

The transaction ended up being cancelled and I had that awful feeling I'd lost my money before I saw it in my balance.

Luckily, neither of us ended up out of pocket but it took about two weeks and someone's walking round with a fairly rare colour Cara Backpack that they haven't paid for.

MulberryBushRoundabout · 12/07/2024 06:09

Just ignore the messages from the seller and follow the Vinted process.

People who don’t understand Vinted try and do it another way, but Vinted have their own processes so it’s not the same as ebay or selling privately.

The Consumer Rights Act doesn't apply in the case of most Vinted purchases because you aren't normally buying from a business seller. The unfair terms provisions will apply to Vinted's terms and conditions, but not the consumer rights and remedies in respect of goods part.

WhydoIcaresomuch · 12/07/2024 07:55

I had similar recently. My parcel arrived with the buyer but it was damaged. Luckily I’d sent them photographs of the item in one piece before I sealed the packaging. I was dubious at first as the item was REALLY damaged and I couldn’t understand how, but the buyer had a 5* rating (and so do I) so we agreed between us that it was neither of our faults. We followed the ‘I have a problem’ procedure and the buyer was refunded straight away. They provided evidence to vinted that it was the courier at fault and I was refunded too almost immediately.

AlwaysGinPlease · 12/07/2024 08:48

If you're rarely in and have no safe place then you should use a locker or drop off location. You're very unreasonable indeed.

MochaMad · 12/07/2024 10:45

Just to respond to some of the above comments…

I have NEVER given Yodel - or any other courier - permission to leave stuff outside my house. In fact a few months ago I phoned Yodel to say there is ‘no safe place’. They stopped leaving stuff outside for a few months and either re delivered or left with a neighbour. I suspect we may have a change of driver.

Prior to this incident I did not have the app. So I had NO IDEA when parcels would be arriving. I assumed Yodel would just do their job properly. Clearly that was an unrealistic expectation - silly me.

In future I will use the shop for deliveries instead - but reading other comments this can fail too if the shop loses things. So you can’t win.

Overnight the seller has sent me 8 more messages accusing me of reporting to Vinted that she didn’t send it. She won’t wait for Vinted to respond. I have repeatedly told her that the report says she sent it but Yodel left it on the doorstep, and you can clearly see it from the photo but for some reason she doesn’t accept this.

I've had all the courier companies tell me they've delivered to my safe place and loaded a photo of parcels on my doorstep. In full view of the street, easy to nick. And some of them have gone missing. I've complained each time. Unfortunately for ebay/vinted etc you need the seller to complain/claim, so if she won't cooperate with that she can hardly get angry with you.

Lillly1 · 12/07/2024 10:49

You can track the progress of the delivery on the Vinted app and/or on the Yodel website.

Why would you answer a thread about vinted when you don't use it or know anything about it? Maybe just leave these threads to people who do?

Whattodo1610 · 12/07/2024 10:55

I feel for your seller - put yourself in her shoes - she has received confirmation that the item has been delivered to you, and she has a photo as proof too. What would you think in her shoes? Also, Vinted are terrible when anything goes wrong, they take ages to respond to messages, and often don’t refund. I had to open a case with their legal team to get my money back as a seller. My buyer said they didn’t collect the item, despite tracking and messages showing otherwise 😡 So my buyer kept the item, go refunded, and I had to fight with their legal team to get my money back - a process that should have happened automatically.

I my view, you should be logging it with the police, as someone has stolen your parcels 🤷‍♀️

Heatherbell1978 · 12/07/2024 11:12

I'm with the seller. She sent your item, it arrived, but then it went missing. Not really her problem. I had something similar a while back. Sent an item and got confirmation it arrived in the locker. Buyer contacted me asking why I'd sent her a dress when she bought kids shorts. I asked her to send me a photo. It was a completely different parcel that she'd somehow collected. Wanted me to phone the courier - and say what exactly I asked her? You delivered my parcel, thanks, but the buyer collected the wrong one?

I've heard of that happening - again likely a courier issue not a buyer one.

But why have parcels delivered to home at all if there is likely to be no-one in and there is nowhere to leave it?

It just seems to be asking for trouble when there are alternatives.

Yes but just selecting ‘it’s didn’t arrive’ isn’t the right way to go about it. She needed to send the seller a message and query it with Yodel.

Hopebridge · 12/07/2024 13:17

I do delivery to post office or local shop/locker if I can't guarantee I'm home. It works out cheaper than home delivery with vinted.

Jins · 12/07/2024 13:21

MistyGreenAndBlue · 11/07/2024 21:35

Tell her YOU cant claim from Yodel as YOU are not their client - she is.
Her job is to refund you and claim back from the courier that SHE hired.

That’s eBay not Vinted. On Vinted the buyer is the client

edit - I missed the post saying Vinted is the client. That’s more likely to be correct.

It is her problem because she sold using Vinted’s terms and conditions which stipulate that OP has to follow this process. The only thing OP could do would be to confirm receipt and forgo her own refund so the seller doesn’t have to wait. I get why the seller is frustrated but her quarrel is with Vinted and their processes, not with OP.

I have had the issue with the locker when I got the wrong item - it wasn’t my fault, because I entered the code I was given. The fault was with the courier who left the wrong parcel In the wrong locker, and I imagine it’s the same in your case. You cannot open any locker except the one allocated to you.
