To ask if you have ever gone back to the hairdressers because you were unhappy?

I am going back to the hairdressers as I'm not happy with the colour they have done, and I'm really nervous! Have any of you ever gone back and, if so, how did it go? Was it awkward?

Yes when the barber cut my sons hair, it was a terrible mess with chunks hacked out of it, there wasn’t much they could do to tidy it up a real botch job

KrazyboutKillian · 11/07/2024 19:54

Yes I rang first and said I wasn’t happy
they offered for the same girl to cut it again but I said I wanted someone else
when I went in they were v apologetic , I showed them the pic I had wanted against how it was and although they didn’t say anything there was an omg moment

gave me a great cut free of. Harhecwith their top stylist

was nervous when I rang but they were lovely

KrazyboutKillian · 11/07/2024 19:55

Free of charge

JustTalkToThem · 11/07/2024 19:56

Yes. It felt awkward but a good hairdresser will appreciate being able to make it right.

WetBandits · 11/07/2024 19:59

Yes. They offered me the original hairdresser again but I declined as she’d made such an awful mess of my hair. She then found me on Facebook and sent me a load of shitty messages because I’d called the salon and said I wasn’t happy with it!

On the day of the second appointment, they tried to charge me for the whole service again after the salon manager had corrected it, but I still didn’t like it although it looked passable by then. I refused to pay, and also showed them the shitty Facebook messages. Never, ever went back there and also left them poor reviews. Shocking customer service and poorly trained staff.

Yes, in an award salon I saw a stylist who'd done my son's hair before to a great standard. Second visit and the cut was horrendous. I kept pointing out the lumpy layers but she started panicking and was not being careful.

On top of that she charged me £10 extra!

I complained and the owner did a correction and refund. When I was there, the stylist who did the cut originally was attending to another client, and she kept staring over at us and pulling sad faces!

XChrome · 11/07/2024 19:59

Yes, they did the cut wrong. I went back and another stylist fixed it.
They were very polite.

I do know somebody whose perm fell out the day after getting it done. She went back and asked for a refund. They said no. She said she wasn't leaving until she got her money back. They then called the cops on her, but that backfired. The cop told them to pay her back.

It was truly terrible 😂

Lorelaigilmore88 · 11/07/2024 20:06

Yes i have. My colour was redone by the most senior stylist and they gave me free hair stuff as a good will gesture. Most reputable places will try and rectify the situation professionally. Word of mouth is important in their business.

silverhamster · 11/07/2024 20:18

My first haircut after lockdown, same stylist I'd been to for the previous 2 years. I said I was happy with the length but wanted some layers.

She left the sides jawlength and cut a section at the top 3 inches short. Like a pineapple. The salon said I needed to go back to the same stylist to have it put right so I did, but all she could do was put extra layers so it blended in a bit more.

She didn't apologise, she just made a big thing saying that this is what I'd asked for. Believe me, nobody would have asked for that!! The next few times I went back there she also made a thing of saying 'was I sure this is what I wanted because of that other time I didnt know what I wanted.'

I changed salon in the end, she obviously just didn't like me for some reason.

LadyChilli · 11/07/2024 20:21

I have. My usual hairdresser had called in sick and and rather than tell me and cancel my appointment the salon manager squeezed me in between her own clients. It was a rush job and looked awful. My usual stylist fixed it for me and the manager was an absolute professional about it, so any awkwardness was entirely in my own head.

LittlePearDrop · 11/07/2024 20:25

I had a bob and when I got home I realized it was about an inch longer on one side than the other! I don't know how I didn't notice in the salon but it was really noticeable.

I emailed them pictures and they insisted the same stylist sort it out. She tried to gaslight me, saying it was just my parting but agreed to trim it. She still didn't manage to get it level and I ended up trimming the front myself a few days later. I haven't used her again.

hopeishere · 11/07/2024 20:26

I was in the hairdressers and the receptionist came over to the person doing my hair (salon owner) and said a customer was on complaining about their cut.

He said he would call them back and then said to me it had actually been on his list of things to do that day as he knew they were not happy leaving the salon (someone else did their hair) but he'd not been able to speak to them then.

So I think a good salon would be happy to help.

Mumtoabeast · 11/07/2024 21:10

Hairdresser here, I would always want a client to raise any concerns with me if they weren't happy with the colour. Sometimes it can be a simple miscommunication between colourist & client & I would always want to be able to rectify any problems. Give them a call, if they're a decent establishment, they'll want you to be happy!

JC03745 · 11/07/2024 21:11

Yes. Twice!

  1. Got home and saw that 1 side was 6cm's shorter than the other side. No idea how I missed it in the salon! He corrected it, but I've never been back.

  2. Had highlights somewhere I'd been a regular for years. Unknown to me, they overprocessed it and when the foils came out- so did my hair! I queried with the manager why the overall colour was a mulberry purple when I'd picked a Chestnut. They had to put a yellow colour on to diffuse the purple. It wasn't until weeks later that I found all the tiny, spiky regrowth where my hair had been burnt off. When I returned, the manager was very dismissive and claimed the foil damage was because my hair 'obviously' had more grey than they realised! 🙄Never went back again.

WayDownThere · 11/07/2024 21:36

I'm going back for the first time tomorrow. Had my roots coloured by someone else when my usual hairdresser was away. The roots are clearly darker than the rest of my hair, it's looks daft. They've been very nice about it, hopefully will put it right for me free of charge!

SpikeyDee · 11/07/2024 21:38

No, I would be way too nervous to complain

Topoftheflops · 11/07/2024 21:39

It was about 25 years ago and I had a white line a few inches down from my roots it looked like a halo. I did go back and they looked really sheepish and sorted it. So yes I would go back.

VerityBridge · 11/07/2024 21:42

Yes. I wasn't stroppy. Perfectly pleasant, and explained the issue and he agreed, corrected it and gave me a free product that would help me manage the iffy cut while it grew out.

romdowa · 11/07/2024 21:45

I've actually had my hairdresser ring me and tell me to come back. It wasn't exactly the colour I asked for but I said nothing because it looked fine. She rang me the next day and insisted she do it right and gave out to me for not saying anything.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 11/07/2024 21:50

I was told my old (amazing) stylist was off sick and another stylist did a terrible coulour job. I asked for subtle and easy to grow out highlights and was given orange stripes.

I called the salon and they immediately offered to have the manager fix it. I asked for my old stylist to fix it instead. I trusted my old stylist because my first appointment with her was when she fixed a botched home box dye job After some back and forth, they agreed.

Slightly awkward because crappy new stylist was there when amazing old stylist fixed me up. But I ignored her and she ignored me.

And amazing old stylist was, of course, amazing, and I will never ever let anyone else touch my hair unless she has personally approved them. She now has her own salon so other people have colored my hair under her supervision. She knows full well that she will have to fix it if they screw up so she trains her staff really well. They are all really lovely.
