Cover versions should be a distinctively different take to the original, rather than just a clone which is why I love Word Up by Gun. Hip hop has borrowed so much from rock, so it was great to hear a rock band borrow something back & absolutely smash it.

No - I thought there must have been a third band I wasn't aware of, but Cash's version is late in his career and is a cover of Depeche Mode's. Have since looked it up, and theirs is definitely the original (well, Martin Gore's for Depeche Mode).

This is a true cover, sounds completely different from the original, in fact you have to listen really closely to hear it. It's by 2 Brazilian artists Seu Jorge and Ana Carolina. You'll probably never have heard it but it's absolutely beautiful. It's a cover of The Blowers Daughter by Damien Rice. Enjoy!

California Dreamin - Beach Boys version far better than Mammas and Pappas original

I will always Love You - Whitney Houston's version far better than Dolly Parton's original

I hated the Beach Boys version. The mamas and Pappas version was superb, the vocals of Mamma Cass on this was outstanding....I agree about Whitney though.
