Work Facebook chat - too much

Is this normal in most jobs?

We have a work group chat on Facebook messenger and it's constant. Night time, weekends (the company is only open during the day, week days).

The boss pulls people up for things she's not happy with on the group chat.
Other co-workers have digs and moans on it.
And like I say - it's evenings and weekends.
I have a life outside work so I don't look at the chat constantly. I've stopped looking at it full stop which has been noticed.

But when I leave work for the day, that's it for me until I arrive the next day.

Is this completely ott? Or common nowadays?

We have a work WhatsApp group chat but it's not for work related things. So it's mainly things like wishing one of the team a happy birthday etc. I have it on mute as when one person messages it results in 20 more messages.
I normally notice even if it's on mute when someone messages as you still see the messages when you open the app so normally don't miss anything.

Definitely do not feel like you have to reply esp in the evenings/days off. It's really unprofessional for them to be pulling people up aswell. Do you have a HR/people team in your company?
