To ask if any so called celebrities have contacted you on social media

I'm an occasional instagram user - my settings are private and i only post occasionally. in the past few weeks i've been contacted by Gary Numan, James Norton, Aidan Gillen and Matthew Mcconaghy. Very clear these celebrities are not IRL keen to engage with a middle aged woman. I've blocked them all. Anyone else experiencing this? Gary Numan thanked me for liking one of his posts but then went on to say we should chat ove something called Telegraph - it's clearly bollocks

A lady in the paper yesterday sent kevin Costner £200 in Apple credits so that he would meet her.
Unsurprisingly he never turned up

I get various incarnations of Henry Cavill on the regular 🤷🏼‍♀️

Dean Gaffney and Lewis Capaldi. Clearly not them of course but makes me feel sad for people who would believe it and get drawn in. I have a friend who firmly believes it's the real celebrity contacting her when she gets similar messages, she won't be told otherwise.

I read a horrible story a while ago about someone whose elderly mother had been scammed out of thousands of pounds by someone pretending to be a celebrity. It really preys on the vulnerable, it makes me so furious.

It's important to remember the 50% Rule and that half the population are more naive than the average. A significant number if people are so naive that they will fall for this sort of thing. Some will fall for it more than once.

I’ve genuinely been contacted by a few celebs after I appears on a consumer tv show regarding being ripped off by a private Covid testing company - the ones who contacted me were on Twitter.

Though I’ve also been sent a FB private message by Jonny Depp 🤣🤣🤣

There was a woman on tv who sent Gerald Butler £400k after he contacted her on FB.

She wasn’t an elderly lady either - 50ish I’d say.

Can’t believe anyone falls for it but working in financial world there’s so many who do.

Somebody famous, male, good looking but I can’t remember who it was supposed to be. Unfortunately it was definitely not genuine and I blocked.

I haven’t had any fake slebs, but I’ve had the odd astonishingly good looking 30+ bloke who has seen the unfiltered profile photo of teeny, dumpy, 50+ year old me and purportedly felt moved to contact me on account of my beauty and elegance 😂 From this they can also deduce that I am a lovely person. Must be a useful skill to have.

Yes - commented on his Facebook page (Jerry Cantrell if anyone likes a bit of grunge) and then got a messenger message - completely thought it was from him - I didn’t realise the blue ticks can be faked 🫣
