How many calories a day do you eat?

I'm 33 and average around 2050-2100, but I think it's too much.

I do an hour+ of exercise per day, but despite being 8 and a half stone I have a flabby belly and I'm bloated.

I've had 1800 ISH the past few days and feel a lot better for it, so I'll try and stick to this.

About 1000 maybe slightly more depending on the day/ period. I have an intense job so don’t exercise as no time. I’m 5’5/6.

PaminaMozart · 08/07/2024 21:20

What's your TDEE?

What kind of exercise do you do?

In addition to cardio/HIIT and resistance/weight training, you need to di a fair bit of abs work, including planks.

Look at Rebecca Louise's Best Abs and Caroline Girvan's Braced Core and Abs. Plus the Bowflex 3-minute plank - do this every single day,

SalmonWellington · 08/07/2024 21:20

5 foot 7 and 8 and half stone is barely - barely - out of the underweight category. If you're exercising an hour a day, damn close to being underweight and worried you're fat then I'd suggest therapy might be more useful than diet advice.

Those on the 1500 (which I think I need to be in to lose) what are your daily foods that you enjoy and feel full on for 1500 please, need inspiration!!!

I’ve found eggs really fill me up. I either have an omelette with ham and cheese or I fry some veg, tomatoes, peppers courgettes etc with some spices and have that with a soft boiled egg and whole meal pitta.

Maryamlouise · 08/07/2024 21:23

Have no idea but I guess about 3000, only noticing now am older that metabolism is slowing down a bit and have to be a bit more careful

Whatkatyforgottodo · 08/07/2024 21:25

5’6 and 1370 a day as I’m trying to loose weight. It’s coming off but very slowly!

Loloj · 08/07/2024 21:30

1500 but losing half a pound a week on average. Less strict at weekends. Would probs be 1800ish to maintain.

Teddleshon · 08/07/2024 21:30

5ft 7 and if I eat more than 1500- 1700 calories a day I put on weight. I can’t understand the calorie guidelines of 2000 a day. I would put on so much weight on that intake.

HideousKinky · 08/07/2024 21:35

I don't count calories but over the last year I have lost 10kg from eating more carefully (I was 75kg, now 65kg and I'm 6ft 7ins, 64 years old). I'm really surprised as I didn't expect it to be so effective and easy to maintain

HideousKinky · 08/07/2024 21:35

Sorry, 5ft 7ins!!

Nomorewine123 · 08/07/2024 21:44

1200 calories to lose weight. Probably 1600 - 1800ish to maintain. It’s getting harder the older I get, I’m 47 and about 5ft4 and weigh around 9 st 2. I’d like another half stone off but it’s my weekend wine that keeps me where I am. I do exercise most days.

Thepeopleversuswork · 08/07/2024 22:00

Jesus who has time for this? Eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full and exercise. Life is too short to eat 1200 calories a day and you will make yourselves ill.

Whatisthereason · 08/07/2024 22:02

1500-1800 to maintain my weight (9 and a half stone and 5’10)

sillybillypocketfulofchilli · 08/07/2024 22:03

FrancisSeaton · 08/07/2024 21:06

I try to inhale -300 on weekdays but at a weekend I eat three sunflower seeds so sadly end up averaging 245 a day

😂😂😂

Nowordsformethanks · 08/07/2024 22:17

These posts are funny. Never thought I'd see a different version of "What do you eat in a day" on mumsnet where we all eat 1 chicken wing, a spinach leaf or two, half a bread crumb and a thimble of sherry to wash it down.

hairymclary45 · 08/07/2024 22:21

I find calorie counting so depressing. It's not a bad way to lose weight as it does work and means you can still factor in most of the things you fancy. So not totally restrictive. But my god the stress of calculating everything and worrying about things that aren't labelled is exhausting.

I'm trying to veer away from it and just eat sensibly, exercise where possible and drink lots of water. If I want a takeaway at the weekend I will have one and not spend time feeling guilty about the fact that one meal has probably wiped out a whole days worth of calories (and then some). It's a joyless way to live for me.

I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably always be a bit fat because I'm not willing to give up the things I enjoy. But I'll try and be healthy about it and still incorporate fruit, veg and exercise into my life too.

AllTheChaos · 08/07/2024 22:29

5’2”, no exercise (due to health and disability issues), so ‘skinny but flabby’. Weighing in at 94lb, so just over 6.5 stone, I eat 1400-1700 calories a day, and am trying v hard to maintain this weight and not lose any.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 08/07/2024 22:32

I'm 45. 5 ft 3 and 10 stone 7. Target weight is 9 stone 9 which will be 3 stone down from starting weight of 12 stone 9 in October.

I'm trying to stick to 1200 cals a day but mostly between 1200 and 1300. I walk on average 15k steps a day, do pilates once a week and beginners karate class once a week. I'm currently averaging pound a week loss. 10 years ago the wreight would have been dropping off!

I'm guessing you have not gone through the menopause yet...

It used to be so simple. Not anymore.

For many, the menopause changes everything.

Having said that..,

  • calculate your TDEE and try to stay within range
  • eat mostly plants, plus measured amounts of protein, complex carbs, as well as healthy fats and dairy
  • exercise c. 30+ minutes a day - a mix of cardio/HIIT and resistance/weight bearing workouts
  • keep active - both physically, mentally and emotionally.
But above all, keep moving.
Teddleshon · 09/07/2024 11:14

@PaminaMozart yup, maintaining a healthy weight was completely and utterly transformed for me by the menopause.

midgetastic · 09/07/2024 12:02

Hum

Have gone through menopause and the way I eat hasn't changed and neither has my weight

Post menopause you will need fewer calories to get by

user1471481356 · 09/07/2024 12:05

1000-1200 to lose weight, 1400 to maintain. I’m 36, 65kgs, short and have 10-15kgs to lose. I do about 2 hours passive walking a day, no high intensity work outs currently.

ConstanceMartensCat · 09/07/2024 12:30

I don’t really track calories but definitely north of 2000/day, more on weekends. I’m 51, 5’7.5 and weigh 9 stone. I’m very muscular and train hard most days so have a very high metabolism and can pretty much eat what I want.

BippetyBoppetyBooHoo · 09/07/2024 12:32

2500 and I've got a flat stomach
